"Space, my love? What space?" Damien asked gently, his eyes moving from her eyes all over her face. Elena shivered a bit, recoiling herself away from Damien's arms. She got up with the blanket covering her body then turned to the bed where her husband sat, confused.
"I'm tired of hurting you. You haven't smiled in so long dear. The guilt... it's eating me up raw. I can't—" she broke off, tears overwhelming her.
Damien made to get up from the bed but Elena stopped him.
"Don't come close to me."
"Elena..." he said, already out of the bed.
"I said stop!" she screamed, her voice cracking at the end. "I'm a monster can't you see?! I almost killed my own children! Our children, Damien!" Elena's tears flowed from her eyes in pools. She buried her face in her palms sobbing into the blanket.
"I'm a monster...I've become the very man that wants my head, Xavriel."
Damien stopped in his advances. It was the first time Elena had ever yelled at him. His hand itched, his heart ached.
