Chapter 10 - Watch Holder [Bonus]

Hailey woke up unusually early for a weekend. Normally she'd laze around, but today was special — the Anime Hobby Shop had just restocked the Sailor Moon figure she wanted.

(Author's Note: Yeah, I know in canon Yo-kai Watch 3 it's Sailor Cutie, but that's just copyright stuff. Here, it's the real deal.)

After scarfing down breakfast, she waved goodbye to her mom and bolted out the door. On the way she hummed, then started singing out loud:

🎵 "Sailor Moon! Sailor Moon!

Fighting evil by moonlight,

Winning love by daylight,

Never running from a real fight,

She is the one named Sailor Moon!" 🎵

She twirled as she walked toward the shop — completely unaware that something was trailing her. A light-blue, rabbit-eared otter Yo-kai floated behind her, wearing a yellow spacesuit, a blue jetpack, and clutching a carrot-shaped ray gun.

Hailey, oblivious, made a beeline for the store.

Meanwhile, in the Adam household, Nate was eating pancakes while his mom flipped another on the pan.

"So, there can be multiple Seers in one generation?" he asked.

Lily smiled softly. "Mm-hm. Your grandmother was one, actually. She didn't have the Yo-kai Watch your grandfather made, but she had her own ways to see and summon Yo-kai."

Nate blinked. "…That's… something."

His thoughts drifted immediately to Hailey and Fumika. Both of them had always been a little too special, even for humans.

Great. Just great. Meta-knowledge says this could happen, but I really hoped it wouldn't. What are the odds it happens now…?. He said in his mind

He stabbed his pancake with his fork, feeling a pit in his stomach.

Back with Hailey, she finally reached the store — only to find the Sailor Moon figures sold out. Her shoulders slumped.

But then… something caught her eye. A strange-looking watch displayed in a glass case. Drawn to it, she asked the cashier about it.

The shopkeeper turned, smiling stiffly. Except it wasn't the shopkeeper anymore. Usapyon had taken over his body, voice gruff and strange.

"Come again soon…" he croaked, handing Hailey the watch.

Creeped out but intrigued, Hailey slipped it on once she was outside. In the parking lot, light shimmered before her eyes — and there he was, Usapyon standing right in front of her.

At the same time, Fumika was in the park with a bug net. Gorota and Imada had teased her for being "average," so she was determined to prove them wrong.

That's when she stumbled across something impossible.

A Crank-a-kai.

The giant gashapon machine shimmered under the trees. The voice echoed:

"Coin, please…"

She hesitated, then slid in a coin she had in her pocket. A capsule dropped into her hands. When she opened it, light flared, and a Yo-kai appeared — a small ochre-colored dog-like creature with light-blue eyes, flaming eyebrows, and a swirl-patterned pouch.

[Insert image of Komajiro]

"Komajiro's here!" he barked cheerfully, wagging his tail.

Fumika dropped her bug net, speechless.

Back with Nate, he froze mid-bite, his fork dangling in the air. A cold chill ran down his spine.

'…Why do I feel like Fate is laughing at my words right now?' he muttered in his head.

Meanwhile, back with Hailey, she was glaring at the space rabbit after their first scuffle with a wandering Yo-kai.

"What do you mean this is a copy?!" she snapped, waving the watch in Usapyon's face.

Usapyon winced, slapping his long ears over his head like makeshift earmuffs. "Hey, hey, calm down, gal! Don't blow a fuse! It's still pretty strong—just… y'know… lacking a few things."

"Explain." Hailey's glasses glinted as she narrowed her eyes.

Usapyon gave a sheepish cough. "Ahem. So, the original Yo-kai Watch? That bad boy was forged with Yo-kai magic and human metal, then blessed by the Sun Goddess herself. What you've got here…" he tapped her watch with his carrot-ray, "...is my workshop knockoff. I just used the blueprints, pure human metal, and a little juice from my tech powers."

Hailey froze. "...Knockoff?"

The rabbit sighed, clearly deciding there was no point sugarcoating it. He tapped a button on his jetpack, and a hologram flickered into the air: the real thing.

Hailey's eyes widened. The projection showed a sleek, silver-white watch with azure highlights, sutras and runes etched into its band that shimmered faintly. At the center, an emblem of the sun pulsed with divine warmth — Amaterasu's blessing itself.

The hologram faded.

Hailey looked back at her own watch… a chunky, plain-looking device with clunky buttons and no shine.

Her face went flat. "This looks basic."

Usapyon pointed dramatically. "Basic, maybe. Useless? No! You can still summon Yo-kai, fight, and even pull some tricks the original can't. Think of it as the… uh…" He scratched his helmet, fumbling for words. "...the beta version of the real deal!"

Hailey crossed her arms, unimpressed. "So I've basically got the discount store edition."

Usapyon puffed out his chest, shouting with a mock salute. "Discount or not, partner, I'm stickin' with ya! Together, we'll make that knockoff shine like the original!"

Hailey sighed, muttering under her breath. "...Great. My partner's a cosplaying space bunny with a bootleg watch."

Fumika turned the small pink pendant over in her palm, watching the faint shimmer catch in the light. "So this is the Yo-kai Necklace?"

Komajiro wagged his tail proudly. "Yup! It's sorta the less powerful sister to Lily's Watch. Blessed by the Moon God… well, kinda."

She blinked. "Kinda?"

He scratched his head sheepishly. "The creator of the Yo-kai Watch didn't exactly… finish it properly. It's half-hazard, but still strong in its own way. The Moon's blessing makes it better at, y'know, calming spirits and helping them talk instead of fight."

Fumika looked down at the pendant again. A soft glow pulsed from it, gentle and cool — nothing flashy like Nate's Sun-marked device, but comforting in its own quiet way. She smiled faintly. "So it's not for battle, it's for… understanding."

Komajiro grinned. "Exactly! That's why it chose you, Fumika."

Fumika blinked, tilting her head. "If this is blessed by the Moon God, Tsukuyomi, then… why didn't he fully bless it?"

Komajiro scratched the back of his head, ears twitching nervously. "Well, Lord Tsukuyomi isn't exactly as patient as his sister. He was supposed to bless it across a full lunar cycle, y'know — new moon to full moon, and back again. But…"

He gave a sheepish laugh. "He got bored after the first night and just… kinda left it half-done."

Fumika stared at the pendant, then at Komajiro. "…The God of the Moon got bored?"

Komajiro waved his paws quickly. "H-hey, don't get me wrong! Even half-blessed, it's still powerful. Just… more emotional, less combat-y. It resonates with feelings, helps bridge hearts. In the right hands, that's just as strong as fighting."

The pendant pulsed faintly in her grip, as if agreeing.

Fumika smiled softly, though her voice carried a hint of teasing. "So, I got the half-finished, moody version."

Komajiro puffed out his cheeks. "Hey! Don't put it like that! It's special — just like you."

Fumika smiled, lowering herself to Komajiro's level, her hand resting lightly on the pendant.

"Still," she said warmly, "the power to stop fights before they even start… that's just as strong as being able to win one. Maybe even stronger."

Komajiro's eyes widened, his tail wagging at her words.

"And besides," Fumika added, tilting her head with a small grin, "you said it can still call Yo-kai with these… metals, right?" She held up one of the tokens between her fingers, the pendant pulsing in rhythm with it.

Komajiro nodded eagerly, puffing up with pride. "Exactly! It might not summon them with as much raw force as Lily's Watch, but it still lets you bond with them. They'll answer if they feel your heart calling."

Fumika's gaze softened as she looked at the pendant again. "Then it's more than enough. I don't need overwhelming power. I just need a way to reach others… even the Yo-kai."

Komajiro's tail wagged as he perked up. "That's great! Let's test it out. I sense a Yo-kai nearby."

Fumika blinked and lifted the pendant in her palm, its pink glow pulsing faintly. "So… how do I actually use it?"

Komajiro hopped up and pointed at the trinket's face. "See that little yellow button on the side? Press it — that'll let you summon the projection, or what we call an 'echo.'"

Fumika pressed it gently. A soft chime rang out, and a circle of silver-blue moonlight spread out before her. Slowly, a hazy, transparent image of a small Yo-kai flickered into view, like a reflection on water. Its form was indistinct, wavering, as if it was deciding whether to step through.

Fumika's eyes widened slightly. "It looks… shy."

"That's the beauty of it," Komajiro explained proudly. "The echo shows their heart before they appear fully. If you can reach them, calm them, or just listen… they'll cross over on their own. No fighting, no forcing."

Fumika crouched down, smiling softly at the wavering image. "Then I'll just have to be patient, huh?"

The projection shimmered, and the Yo-kai's features grew a little clearer — as if responding to her words.

The projection shimmered again, and this time the hazy figure solidified into the hunched form of an elderly Yo-kai with droopy eyes, a white mustache, and a walking cane that looked far too heavy for him.

"Uuuugh…" the Yo-kai groaned as he bent forward. "I'm so… hungry… even though I just ate…"

Fumika tilted her head. "Hungramps…?"

Komajiro nodded. "That's him, alright. Makes people feel like their stomach's empty no matter what they've eaten. Annoying, but not dangerous."

Hungramps' projection wavered, as if it might fade away again.

Fumika knelt down and smiled softly at the old Yo-kai. "You must be tired, huh? Wandering around making everyone hungry all the time… doesn't that wear you out?"

The old spirit blinked, his drooping eyes widening slightly. "Eh…? Someone's… listening?"

"Of course." Fumika's tone was calm, steady, almost soothing. "If you're hungry, let's find you something to eat first. No need to go around bothering people, right?"

For a moment, Hungramps said nothing. Then his belly gave a dramatic rumble, and he chuckled weakly. "Heh… you're a kind kid. Most humans just yell at me…"

The pendant glowed faintly. The projection brightened, and in the next instant, Hungramps stepped fully out of the circle of moonlight, cane tapping lightly on the ground.

Komajiro wagged his tail proudly. "See? No fight needed."

Hungramps rubbed his stomach and sighed. "Guess I could stick around with you for a bit, little miss. At least you talk to me instead of shooing me away."

Fumika smiled softly. "Then let's get along, Hungramps."

The pendant gave a quiet ding, and a small metal coin appeared in her hand — Hungramps' Yo-kai Medal.

The next few days passed, as the Yokai had gotten words for two different Seers.

Which Nate got the words, by how Yokai describe them, one was sweet, and a kind heart, and talked to them first, the other was fiery, and her watch seemed will janky, but her Yokai fought with a fire.

Nate also still did his job, fixing Local Yo-kai Problems, hoping to run into these new seers and hoping they weren't his friend.

Days passed, and then it was rainy days, as it showed both Usapyon and Komajiro were sent back, as Hailey and Fumika held their Yokai Companions, as they looked up to see what they were fighting

A huge, three-headed, snake-like Yo-kai with dark pink, elephant-thick skin, and a weak spot, its single eye, hidden within one of its three mouths. An indigo or dark blue slimy liquid leaks from its stomach and parts of its body, which can be highly flammable. Each of its three mouths features a long, pink, yellow-tipped tongue, and thin, light blue eyebrows are above its head.

[Insert image of Slimander]

Slimander looked at the two girls as they spoke. "You thought you could defeat Me, Ssssssily little girlssssss, still having ssseers, as my first meals in hundredsss of year's, will do fine".

Both the girls just learned today that the other was a seer, as they closed their eyes, ready for the end, as Yokai Companions came in front of them, ready to give them life, something.

"Kuroka Cut The Heads, Frostina Freeze the Body, Insomni put it to sleep, and Blazion Finish it".

The girls heard, and after a few seconds, they saw the giant Yokai desesper, as thege standing in front of them were a few Yokai they hadn't seen before, then they heard it.

The rain poured harder, soaking the broken ground where Slimander had fallen. Its huge carcass dissolved into blue smoke, leaving only the acrid stench of burnt slime in the air. Hailey and Fumika were still catching their breath, clutching their soaked clothes as their Yokai partners hovered protectively in front of them.

Hailey whispered, almost in disbelief. "Th-that voice…"

Fumika's eyes widened as she finally looked past the vanishing mist.

There he was. Nate Adams. Calm. Steady. His school uniform clinging to him from the rain, an umbrella shielding him only slightly. A strange, sleek sword rested across his back — its hilt engraved with runes neither of them recognized.

He sighed, expression equal parts relief and exasperation. "I was really hoping it wasn't you two."

The girls froze. "N-Nate…?" they said in unison.

Nate walked closer, Jibanyan and Kuroka flanking him like bodyguards. Frostina hovered overhead, her icy aura keeping the last trails of slime from reigniting. Insomni leaned lazily on her pillow, yawning, while Blazion's mane of fire still burned bright in the rain.

Both girls were speechless — Hailey with her janky silver watch still sparking faintly, Fumika gripping her glowing moon pendant.

Nate finally stopped in front of them, his umbrella dripping. His tone was calm but heavy with weight.

"I guess… I don't get to put this off anymore." His eyes flicked between their shocked faces, then down to their Yokai companions. "There's something I need to explain to you both."

The silence was deafening, broken only by the sound of rainfall hitting the cracked pavement.

Nate's hand tightened slightly on his umbrella. His voice dropped, serious.

"It's about the supernatural… and why you're now a part of it."

A few hours later…

Fumika sat slumped on the Adams' living room couch, pinching her forehead like she had a migraine. "…So what you're telling me is… the supernatural world is not only Yokai."

Nate, sitting opposite her with a cup of tea, nodded calmly. "Nope. It also includes Angels, Fallen Angels, Devils, Gods, Vampires, humans with magic, and probably a dozen other factions that I haven't even run into yet."

Hailey, wide-eyed and practically bouncing in her seat, leaned forward. "And you've known about all of this since you were a kid… because of a prophecy?"

Nate gave a short nod. "Yes."

Though in his head, he added quietly: And because of reincarnation.

Before Hailey could fangirl further, Fumika suddenly pointed across the room — straight at Kunou, who was sipping her tea as if this were a casual Sunday. "And YOU. Our childhood friend. You're the Princess of the Yokai?"

Kunou blinked once, then nodded with a serene smile. "Mm-hm. That's right."

Fumika's brain short-circuited. She was usually the patient one, the calm one. But even she had her limits. She threw her hands up. "This… this is BULLSHIT!"

From the kitchen came Lily Adams' voice, stern and unimpressed. "Language, young lady!"

The three girls froze. Hailey nearly choked on her tea. Nate just sighed and muttered under his breath, "Yup… welcome to my life."

Fumika jabbed a finger at the pink pendant resting against her chest. "And this pendant? What's its deal?"

Lily stepped in from the kitchen carrying a tray of snacks, her tone calm as if explaining homework. "That's actually my original Yokai Artifact — the first one my father made for me before he passed the Watch down. We thought it was lost it and him."

She point at both Komajiro and Komasan burst into tears, hugging each other with comically oversized anime sobs.

"Koma-broooother!"

"Komaaaajirooo!"

Fumika sweatdropped at the display while clutching the pendant tighter.

Meanwhile, Nate turned his gaze toward Hailey… specifically, at the clunky, slightly crooked watch on her wrist. His eyebrow twitched. "…And your watch. Yikes. Why does it look like that?"

Hailey immediately puffed her cheeks. "Hey! Don't insult it, it works fine—!"

Usapyon, standing beside her, started whistling way too loudly, shifting his eyes side to side like he was trying to look innocent.

Nate narrowed his eyes. "You built it, didn't you."

Usapyon froze mid-whistle. "…N-nooooo?"

Kunou facepalmed.
