Mark's POV.
I had been thinking of so many ways to get Phoebe back, I wanted her back by my side.
I stared at the plate of food with no appetite at all, I had been this way since I discovered the Alpha of the Red Rose pack had taken her into his custody.
I did the most stupid things that anyone in my ancestral line had ever done. I was certain that my father would turn in his grave because of the mistake I had made. I cursed the moon goddess numerous times for giving me a mate like her.
A slave for that matter, a girl without any class or identity at all, it was just her beauty that enchanted me but I had unknowingly lost a rare gem thinking it was a stone. I had forfeited my chance of having a Luna with incredible strength and power.
Though I believed that she had not discovered her powerful abilities yet, I was sure that she was still ignorant of her powers and I needed to get to her before she would become too strong to tame.
I needed her back as my Luna, even though I had rejected her as my mate. Nothing will stop me from claiming her back.
"Mark, you aren't eating your food," My mother muttered but I simply ignored her words.
I had hardly spoken to either her or Sasha since I found out that I had lost Phoebe to an Alpha with more power than I. I wished another Alpha had set his eyes on her, a weak one in particular but unfortunately for me it had to be a powerful Alpha that had never lost a battle since he took over the title of an Alpha.
I ruffled my hair in frustration to contain the angry feeling that was about to burst, if my mother wouldn't keep quiet and keep spewing nonsense.
"Mark, you have to accept the fact that she is gone and there is nothing you can do about it. I know that you said she is powerful but we can do well with Sasha," My mother said to me and it made me lose my temper.
"Mother, can you even listen to yourself!" I yelled at her and she instantly flinched.
My hand banged against the table to make emphasis on my statement, it made her chest jerk up in fright.
"Can you hear your own words? How do they sound in your ears?" I demanded answers with a grave tone.
She swallowed hard and responded with words that I was sick of hearing daily "I am still your mother and I want the best for you. You might be the Alpha now but I will always remain the mother who loves and cares for you and I know that girl is only going to bring you doom".
A stifled and dead-like chuckle escaped my lips. It sounded so soulless that it made her cringe and become more afraid…
"I am sick and tired of you trying to control my life, every inch of my life belongs to me and you have no right to rule it. I blame you and Sasha for her being taken captive by Alpha Kingston. This is all your fault and Sasha's"
My mother fired back "How is it any of our fault? She was your mate and you allowed us and everyone in the pack to ridicule her. If you had a little affection for her; you would not have condemned her to misery and rejected her!"
I frowned at her words but she was right. I was the primary cause of the maltreatment that Phoebe had to go through, she was my mate but I never cared to support her. I hated her.
I rubbed my forehead and glared at her.
"Mark, we are your family. You have not been treating Sasha well"
"Who cares about Sasha right now? She doesn't have fighting skills or even a good wolf. You don't know how grieved I am by all this!"
I slammed my hands on the table again and the plate bounced off the table. The table also cracked a bit.
I didn't see Sasha at dinner but right now I didn't care. My heart might yearn to meet her and tell her how much I wanted to be with her but I couldn't.
I was not willing to have any more of these conversations with my mother because it only vexed me to my bones and made me feel much like a simpleton for letting such a jewel go.
I sprang up and walked to my room. I entered and went for a bottle of liquor.
I wished I could get drunk like some other creatures and forget all my problems for a moment but unfortunately, I couldn't.
I gulped it down in such a fast manner that I finished the bottle in less than ten seconds.
"Mark"
"Mother, keep away from me because I am losing my patience" I yelled and my eyes darkened..
"Just forget about her once and for all, I am pleading with you, son. Sasha is worth ten times more that useless slave"
"Fighting that Alpha would bring war, please forget about her"
She banged on my door and yelled.
I walked to the window and opened it, my primal instinct took over.
I dashed out through the window and turned into my wolf form. A black wolf with red eyes, larger than any other wolf in the pack.
Apart from my status as the Alpha, my intimidating size had always given me an advantage over them and it made them obey me like lap dogs.
I growled and ran through the forest, soiling my feet with the dampened mud. I had stayed days sniffing her scent from her former slave clothes. I couldn't deny that she had this lingering beautiful scent.
I needed her as my Luna and my chosen mate. I would never give up on her.
She was mine and I would have her even though it was the last thing I ever did.
I mind-linked my beta as I ran deeper into the first.
I'm coming for you, Phoebe.
