Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Hubby!

Ning Yi merely gave the big shot a light swing.

Before Gu Cheng could fully react, she had already switched bodies.

Of course, the main reason was to test her new mattress firsthand.

Then Ning Yi realized—hanging like this was actually kind of fun?

It felt like swinging on a swing, creak-creak.

Gu Cheng stood by with an icy expression: "..."

Four servants worked together to install the thick mattress, then tiptoed over and carefully lowered Young Master Gu back onto the bed from the hoist.

They'd been surprised when the young mistress suggested changing the mattress, but then again, Young Master Gu wouldn't be disturbed anyway! The young mistress truly dotes on her husband!

Gu Le came over to watch and said to "Ning Yi," "Sis-in-law, you're so good to my brother!"

Gu Cheng: "...?"

Good in what way?

A few minutes later.

Ning Yi finally lay down on the luxurious mattress she'd personally selected.

Not only was it large and thick, but it provided excellent spinal support while retaining a soft feel—like a fluffy cloud with firmness. Truly worthy of its hundreds of thousands of yuan price tag—

Ning Yi's blissful relaxation reached new heights!

Once everyone else had tactfully left.

Gu Cheng leaned against the headboard, his expression dark. "Like it?"

"Mmm, honey, I tried it and it's great. But I figured you'd probably feel weird switching mattresses so suddenly," Ning Yi said in a warm, considerate tone, like she was tucking him in. "Let me help you adjust first. I can handle it."

Gu Cheng lowered his gaze, his voice tinged with amusement: "Since it was personally chosen by Yi, I'd be happy to endure any discomfort."

Ning Yi: ? Starting to copy me, huh?

Ning Yi: Don't even think about beating me at my own game.

"But my husband is the most amazing man in the world! He deserves only the very best. I can't bear to see him hurt even a little! Whoever dares clip my husband's wings, I'll tear their entire paradise to shreds! Whoever dares break my husband—"

"... " Gu Cheng paused. "Alright, shut up."

Ning Yi: "Goodnight, love you, kissy face."

Gu Cheng returned expressionlessly to the study next to the hospital room.

It was still the wee hours, but since he was awake, sleep wasn't an option.

Ning Yi hadn't slept either while changing his mattress. The computer was on, but there were no browsing traces. His phone screen was frozen on a game interface, and his stats were pretty dismal.

 "Hmph."

Just as expected—lazy and good-for-nothing, learning nothing.

Gu Cheng set the phone aside and pulled the computer closer to continue analyzing the market trends of several internet-listed stocks. He noticed the webpage seemed much more sluggish than before.

He opened another browser, but the screen froze for a long time.

Then, with a "bang," something popped up.

It scattered across the screen like flowers falling from the heavens.

Upon closer inspection, it was all poop.

Gu Cheng: "?"

Ning Yi slept incredibly, incredibly well.

Now, Ning Yi woke up every day in a massive bed worth hundreds of thousands in a mansion spanning thousands of square meters, with Michelin-starred chefs preparing elaborate meals daily—ooh, this was the life!

Of course, even with a black card granting unlimited access to luxury, she still needed to build her own fortune. After all, once the big shot woke up, he'd surely divorce her—and she couldn't guarantee she'd keep all this wealth.

So Ning Yi began exploring business opportunities in this world. This brainless romance novel features countless male supporting characters vying for the female lead, Ding Ziyue, with the official male lead being the current top movie star. The ultimate goal of such stories is for everyone to adore and ship the couple together. The pairing of the heiress and the movie star became the sweetest CP, while the original protagonist constantly played the role of the mocked comparison.

But it's clear that romance novels need an audience.

The heroine must become "The One Every Girl Wants to Be"!

Yet the elite socialite circle still relied on the most primitive methods—WeChat groups and Moments—for self-promotion. Without a robust ecosystem to break out of their niche, it just wasn't flashy enough.

How could that do? ^-^

Ning Yi resolved to give the pampering world a grand stage.

She selected the smallest internet company from among those Gu Cheng had invested in. Currently just a small workshop, but in this world's rules, Gu Cheng equaled success.

Ning Yi brutally optimized their website with a dimension-lowering strike.

She'd always been lightning-fast at coding, with low error rates and few bugs—after all, prolonged survival in extreme environments meant constant upgrades.

With a flurry of keystrokes, Ning Yi finished her work, leaving her email and phone number anonymously.

That very day, a reply arrived: "Big shot! Who are you?!"

Judging by the tone, it was likely a fellow programmer: "Big shot, would you grace us with your presence for a meal sometime? Blushing.jpg"

Ning Yi thought, "Sure, why not?" But—

What if she accidentally switched bodies during dinner? How would she explain to her husband seeing her eat with another man?

"We'll see when I have time"

"Got it, got it, big shot!"

While Ning Yi immersed herself in work, the elite social circle was rocked by a major shockwave.

It all started with Ning Yi's bed replacement. Numerous Gu household servants witnessed a massive crate being moved into the detached villa where Gu Cheng had been secluded for three years. Somehow, this commotion leaked outside.

Any movement involving the name "Gu Cheng" was major news in high society circles, instantly sparking a wave of discussion.

"Could it mean Young Master Gu is stirring?"

"Why else would he suddenly switch beds? Could it mean he can communicate with the outside world now?"

"Holy crap!!! If Young Master Gu makes a comeback..."

"Ahhhhh my idol is coming back?!"

"Hahaha that means Ning Yi is getting dumped, can't wait"

Ning Yi remained utterly oblivious. She'd merely wanted to lie down more comfortably, yet her actions sent shockwaves through the elite circles for an entire day.

Meanwhile, Ding Ziyue, upon seeing the news, couldn't help but feel secretly thrilled.

—Three years of silence, and the moment she went to heal Young Master Gu, he changed?

This proves he was truly warmed and healed by her, rediscovering his will to live!

Thus, Ding Ziyue updated her social feed:

"Let me be your light, dispelling the darkness for you."

A vaguely sentimental caption accompanied four photos of trial banquet gowns, sparking wild speculation while subtly showcasing the pampered heroine status she enjoyed as the Ding family's darling.

Ning Yi could see Ding Ziyue's post, but lacking connections to the elite circles, she couldn't view the comments. However, Ding Ziyue had added her to a group chat earlier, and the conversation there was quite lively.

"Yu-yu is stunning! Can't wait for the banquet!"

"Who's Yu-yu's WeChat caption meant for? [wicked grin][wicked grin]"

"Last time she posted something like this was for Gu Young Master's birthday, right?"

 Ding Ziyue: "Everyone, stop guessing!"

She wouldn't let others know what she was up to.

"Yueyue, you can come visit today," Gu Zhisheng said over the phone, his voice tinged with flattery. "I've taken care of everything—you must speak up for me again about that project your brother mentioned last time."

Ding Ziyue smiled. "Uncle Gu, don't worry. My brother always listens to me."

 "That's good, that's good!"

Gu Zhison hung up just as he spotted Ning Yi walking toward another building.

Having heard Song Lan intended to test her by having her bathe Gu Cheng, Gu Zhison watched her with a sneer. "Off to attend to Gu Cheng, are we?"

Ning Yi asked politely, "Why, would you like to do it?"

 "You?!"

Ning Yi turned with a smile.

Off I go—to play... no, to care for my husband.

Gu Cheng had daily routine care.

His noble body was tended to by a thirty-person professional team, meticulously maintained day after day. One could say he lived more exquisitely than most healthy, energetic humans.

But right now, Ning Yi was inside his body.

Under the guise of "learning the process of caring for my husband," she was really just taking a break from coding

he family doctor had scheduled daily joint mobility exercises, strength traction, and various other treatments.

Ning Yi: "Wow."

Ning Yi: "Whoa."

Ning Yi: "Damn impressive!"

 Gu Cheng: "..."

Following Song Lan's instructions, the family doctor left the final washing task to "Ning Yi," who stood nearby.

They weren't entirely at ease. After all, if anything happened to Young Master Gu's body, no one could bear the responsibility.

Moreover, Ning Yi was still technically an outsider to the Gu family. Having her perform the washing also carried an element of the mistress's scrutiny.

The doctor looked skeptical: "Madam, are you truly capable of this?"

Gu Cheng mentally asked Ning Yi: "Can you handle it?"

"Mhm..." Ning Yi pouted. "Why wouldn't I be able to?"

After the doctor left, Gu Cheng's cold voice echoed: "Had enough of lying down, Yi?"

Ning Yi: "Husband, after experiencing your life, I feel even more sorry for you."

Gu Cheng sneered: "Is that so?"

"Of course it's true." Hehe.

After saying this, Ning Yi surprisingly cooperated by switching bodies back and picked up the soft towel for washing.

This time, Gu Cheng was slightly taken aback.

She wasn't playing tricks? She really intended to wipe him?

Ning Yi: I'm wiping you ^3^

Yesterday, Gu Cheng had figured out the swap pattern and made her miss out on steak—an event later known as the "Filet Mignon Incident."

Today, they had already swapped three times: once for sleeping, once for eating, and just now. The cooldown for the next swap had already ended.

 Ning Yi: Surprised?

She declared earnestly, her voice tinged with pain: "Husband, I wish I could bear all this for you."

The mental command activated.

And so Gu Cheng was swapped back again.

"... " Gu Cheng stood by the bedside, his eyes darkening. "Ning Yi, you did that on purpose."

After the fourth swap, the cooldown period began again, but the doctors had already clocked out.

So today, he had to handle it himself.

"Husband, after witnessing countless lives and deaths, I've learned one truth! More important than my love for you is that you cherish yourself!"

"Come on, husband! Cherish your body! Hard!"

Gu Cheng sneered coldly for a long moment.

"You're something else."

Massage and care—the same routine repeated for three years. No one knew it better than Gu Cheng.

But this was the first time he'd ever felt his own body like this.

He'd thought he'd hate it—hate this body like a cage, imprisoning him for three years.

Or feel disgusted—disgusted by this sickly, bedridden, fragile state.

But it seemed all right, because—

"Mmm..."

"Three more centimeters to the left."

"A bit more pressure!"

"Yes, yes, yes."

Gu Cheng: "..."

ing Yi enjoyed the treatment while encouraging him, "Honey, your technique is amazing! My body feels so much better!"

"..."

Gu Cheng remained silent for a long while, finally letting out a bitter laugh....

Gu Cheng massaged until evening, finally feeling fully reconciled with his body.

Ning Yi, having enjoyed the premium service, finally offset her resentment over the filet mignon.

Knowing when to quit, she thoughtfully switched bodies back.

"Honey, you sleep. This time, I absolutely won't disturb you."

Gu Cheng gave a cold laugh.

He closed his eyes.

After three days without sleep, exhaustion finally overtook him.

He barely managed to drift into a light slumber.

A figure slipped quietly into the ward and took his hand.

"Your... light... is... here..."

Gu Cheng opened his eyes, dark and stormy.

Damn it.

Get out.
