Evander's POV
The word slipped too quickly off her tongue. No.
Too quick. Too sharp. Too defensive.
She was lying. Badly.
My jaw clenched, my grip on her wrist tightening until I felt her pulse hammering against my fingers. The wolf inside me snarled, claws raking at the walls of my control. He hated it. The lie. The attempt to deceive us. He wanted to tear the truth out of her, wanted her stripped of every excuse until she admitted it.
I leaned forward slowly, close enough for her trembling breaths to brush against my skin. "You're a terrible liar, Odette," I said, my voice dangerously calm. "Do not insult me with pathetic denials. I can smell dishonesty on you as clearly as I smell your blood."
Her lips parted, but no words came out. Her lashes trembled, and I could feel the slight tremor running through her body.
