I woke up the way rich girls wake up in romance novels—slow, lazy, stretching like I owned the world.

Except I didn't own anything. Not even my own freedom.

Still… damn, this bed felt expensive.

I blinked instinctively, even though blinking did absolutely nothing for me, and lifted my hand, feeling the air, the sheets, the softness beneath my fingertips.

This wasn't the warehouse.

This wasn't the creaky mattress that felt like it had been bought from some medieval torture museum. This wasn't the cold air humming from machines. This wasn't the suffocating thick smell of metal, fear, and Evander's constant murderous aura floating around.

This was… warm. Soft. Clean. Quiet.

Peaceful.

I exhaled into the pillow, sinking deeper. "Oh my God," I whispered, feeling the bedding like a spoiled cat. "Oh my freaking God."
