I saw red.
Not the normal kind of anger—no, this was the kind that tore through bone. The kind that loosened claws beneath my skin and made my vision crackle on the edges. The kind that could level an entire war pack if I stopped holding myself together for even a second.
Odette screamed.
Her hand flew to her arm, blood gushing between her fingers.
And then I smelled it.
Wolf venom.
My world collapsed.
In an instant, instinct took over. The room, the people, the shouting—everything blurred. I only saw her, trembling, her knees buckling, her face drained of all color. I could hear her heart hammering too fast, then lagging, then skipping.
Fuck.
FUCK.
I moved before any of them even understood what had happened. One second the guards were dragging Elena away, the next second Odette was in my arms.
She was warm. Too warm. Fever burning on the surface of her skin. Her breath hitched like each inhale was a battle.
