Chapter 26 - Chapter 26

The moment Cole learned his zanpakuto's true name, he also understood its ability.

Ruyi Jingu Bang.

An unrestricted staff of infinite weight.

The stronger his reiryoku, the heavier the Ruyi Jingu Bang became.

The sharper his zanpakuto, the larger the staff could grow.

And with Cole's current strength, even its first awakening carried a terrifying weight.

"A zanpakuto weighing hundreds of thousands of jin…"

Urahara's lips twitched violently.

He'd seen every kind of zanpakuto in existence—yet never one like this.

Tessai couldn't help but mutter, "Shopkeeper, Yoruichi-san… what category would this zanpakuto even fall under?"

Urahara and the black cat locked eyes.

Though every zanpakuto was unique, Soul Society had classified them into five broad types over centuries:

Physical type—zanpakuto that deal purely physical attacks.

Elemental type—those that control natural elements.

Rule type—bound to mysterious, unique laws.

Kido type—focused on spell-like abilities.

Summoning type—calling forth strange creatures.

Cole's weapon… didn't fit cleanly.

It was physical, yes, but it carried a strangeness akin to kidō.

Urahara shook his head. "Forget the category. What matters is the sheer weight. It's… beyond comprehension."

Everyone agreed with grim nods.

With a zanpakuto weighing nearly a million jin, one swing could reduce any enemy to paste.

But their bindings wouldn't hold forever.

The kido spells restraining the Ruyi Jingu Bang began to crack.

Seeing Jinta escape from its shadow, Urahara, Tessai, and Yoruichi withdrew instantly.

BOOOOM!

The golden pillar slammed into the barren ground.

The force shook the entire underground chamber.

A massive crater yawned open, fractures webbing outward. Several nearby peaks collapsed in showers of rubble.

"This kind of weight…" Yoruichi's eyes trembled. "Can he even wield such a zanpakuto?"

A million jin… even Soul Society's strongest warriors couldn't budge such a weapon.

But Cole gave no answer.

Instead, Urahara's face darkened. "Cole-san… don't tell me the ambient reiryoku isn't enough for you anymore?"

For Cole was darting across the barren earth like a thief.

Everywhere he stopped, another crater appeared.

The ground resembled the surface of the moon.

Cole gave an awkward laugh, crouching as he siphoned more compressed reiryoku. "This reiryoku is denser than the outside world's… absorbing it feels so much better."

"Stop! At this rate, you'll collapse the entire chamber!"

Urahara's face twisted black as he rushed over.

It had taken him nearly a century of stored reiryoku to build this training ground.

Five more minutes of Cole's feasting would tear it apart.

"Wait—just a few more bites…"

Cole's eyes shone with longing. Compared to this, his old practice felt like starving on scraps.

"No!"

Urahara raised his cane, spiritual power swirling violently.

"Hold on!" Cole barked, thrusting out a hand.

"Ruyi Jingu Bang!!"

The colossal golden staff shrank in an instant, collapsing into a brilliant streak of light before landing firmly in his palm.

"Huh!?"

Urahara blinked—just in time to see the staff swinging straight at him.

For one fatal second, he hesitated.

Then he snapped his cane up to block.

BOOOOM!!!

The clash roared like thunder.

Scarlet reiryoku exploded from Urahara's cane.

And then—

His body shot backward like a cannonball.

Eyes widening, he instinctively used shunpo step after step, heels gouging the ground, but he couldn't stop.

CRASH!

He smashed into a mountain peak, rubble raining down.

Cole froze.

From what he knew, Urahara wasn't just a genius ex-captain—he was also petty and vindictive.

Hitting him full force with a swing… was the same as writing his own death warrant.

Quickly, Cole dismissed the staff and shouted:

"Rukia, Ichigo, girly-boy—move it!"

Rukia nodded.

Ichigo nodded.

Ishida ground his teeth. "Who the hell are you calling girly-boy, bastard!?"

But he followed all the same, the three fleeing the chamber with Cole.

And not a single person stopped them.

All eyes were glued to the mountain with a man-shaped hole in its side.

"Oi… what's Urahara doing?"

Yoruichi muttered. "Even if Cole's zanpakuto is strange, it shouldn't have launched him like that."

Tessai shook his head in disbelief. "The shopkeeper… actually got blown away…"

Even without releasing his blade, Urahara was captain-class.

At the very least, shunpo should have let him dodge.

Then, from the rubble, Urahara staggered out—dusty, disheveled, his face like thunder.

"Careless…"

His eyes burned as he scanned the wreckage. "That sly little brat—where is he!?"

"Gone," Tessai replied quickly, before asking the question on everyone's mind.

Urahara clenched his jaw. "I underestimated his zanpakuto. The power behind that swing… it nearly shattered my arm."

He and Yoruichi tried to chuckle—until they saw his hands.

Both were trembling violently.

The laughter died in their throats.

Their faces grew dark with the same realization.

Cole's zanpakuto was terrifying.
