Chapter 72 - Chapter 72

Cole looked down at Unohana beneath him, licking his lips.

"Flower-sis, we're just getting started!"

Once, he thought his first girlfriend might be either Orihime or Rukia. But plans never kept up with reality. After fierce combat, both he and Unohana burned with heat, their bodies ignited with passion, and they gave in to another kind of battle.

Unohana's face flushed. "Cole… bite me…"

Much later, Cole stood, satisfied. "Flower-sis, you're weak in this field."

She glared at him gently. "You were the one so rough."

"Unfair! You told me to be rough so you could feel pain during this 'battle' too!" Cole protested.

Unohana only chuckled, basking in the aftermath. "This kind of fight isn't so bad either."

Cole blinked. "Flower-sis, your age…"

Her eyes flashed dangerously. He coughed twice, quickly changing, "I mean, Flower-sis, you're so beautiful. You never had a boyfriend?"

"Never." Unohana shook her head. "What boyfriend could be more fun than battle? Pain alone brings true joy."

Cole muttered, "Knew it. Flower-sis definitely has a masochistic streak…"

Not only did she revel in pain and combat, even her zanpakuto thrived on battle. She ignored him, stretching lazily, her figure rising with saintly grace, drawing yet another roar from Cole's body.

She glanced at him with a smile. "Still want more? You've been releasing your reiatsu all this time. Don't you want to meet your friends?"

Cole swallowed hard, forcing himself to get up, though reluctantly. He still wanted more, but Ichigo and the others must be waiting. He clenched his fists—he'd have to absorb more spirit power soon, maxing out his body's stats. Only then could he make Flower-sis beg for mercy.

Elsewhere, Yoruichi in cat form perched on Rukia's shoulder, bewildered.

"What happened? This is the Sixth Division's area. Where are the buildings? Even the ground tiles are gone?"

Rukia looked around, equally confused. She'd only been in the Human World a few months, and now Seireitei looked demolished.

Before they could react, three patrolling reapers spotted them.

"Ryoka!"

"The ryoka are here!"

"Get them!!"

The girl and the cat fled, but death gods swarmed every street.

"This is worse than a lockdown," Yoruichi muttered. "Feels like wartime. Did Hueco Mundo invade?"

Suddenly, a figure appeared before them—blonde hair, beauty mark near her lips, revealing uniform, and an open smile. Matsumoto Rangiku, vice-captain of the Tenth Division.

"Vice-captain Matsumoto…"

Rukia drew her zanpakuto nervously. Against a vice-captain, escape seemed impossible without a fight.

But Matsumoto only blinked, then grinned warmly. "Yo, Rukia! And hello, kitty cat. Seen a blue orb around, or maybe Gin and his pals?"

"Uh… I-I haven't…" Rukia stammered.

"Too bad." Matsumoto sighed, then waved cheerfully. "Well, if you see Gin, tell him to come see me. And Rukia, let's go drinking sometime!"

She strolled away, leaving both Rukia and Yoruichi stunned.

"…Are you close friends?" Yoruichi asked, baffled.

Rukia shook her head dumbly. "We've barely spoken."

The two were left speechless. Ordinary reapers hunted them like dogs, yet a vice-captain simply walked away.

After asking around, they learned why. In only two days since Cole entered, Seireitei had turned upside down. Buildings devoured. Kenpachi and Sajin both defeated (or so the rumors went). Then, incredibly, Cole even attacked the Head Captain from atop the Repentance Palace.

And then—Aizen, Gin, and Tōsen betrayed Soul Society, leaving Chōjirō half-dead, while Unohana vanished entirely.

Rukia paled. "Yoruichi-san, we were just two days late, right? Why does it feel like we came two years late?"

Yoruichi's fur bristled. "We have to find Cole. See what disaster he's caused now."

Elsewhere, Ichigo and Ganju sprinted through streets, hundreds of reapers chasing them.

"Stop, ryoka! You won't escape today!"

Ichigo gawked. "Ganju, since when was Seireitei this heavily guarded!?"

"How should I know!?" Ganju wailed, tears streaming.

They rounded a corner—only to face even more reapers.

"AAAAAH!!" they screamed, running blindly.

Watching from a rooftop, Ikkaku and Yumichika sighed.

"These idiots," Ikkaku muttered. "Are they really Cole's comrades?"

"They're loud, obvious, and hopeless. Not like Cole at all," Yumichika sneered.

Still, owing Cole a debt, they decided to intervene. Appearing before Ichigo and Ganju, they halted their flight.

"Who are you!?" Ichigo demanded, clutching Zangetsu.

"Relax. I'm not your enemy. I know Cole. Friend… well, maybe not friend," Ikkaku said, grinding his teeth at the memory of Cole's crushing staff.

Ichigo frowned, distrustful. "Move aside. I'll find Cole myself."

Ganju agreed, shouting nonsense.

Ikkaku's brow twitched. "You two think you're Cole? If I wanted, neither of you would leave alive."

Ichigo bristled. "Don't underestimate me! I'm not much weaker than Cole now!"

Both Ikkaku and Yumichika froze, staring.

"…Not much weaker than Cole?"

Ichigo nodded firmly. "That's right."

Ikkaku's eyes gleamed. "Then fight me. Ikkaku Madarame!"

They clashed, steel screaming. Ichigo pressed him back, Ikkaku's excitement growing.

"Not bad! No wonder you're his comrade. But let's see how you handle this—Release, Hōzukimaru!!!"

His zanpakuto transformed into a spear, thrusting forward.

Meanwhile, Yumichika looked at Ganju with distaste. "Honestly, you're ugly. Come with me to Eleventh Division for safety. Beautiful men only, though."

Before Ganju could answer, fireworks exploded in Yumichika's face.

"Boom!"

Charred, Yumichika seethed. "Fine. I'll break your legs and drag you back."

Elsewhere, Chad roared, "Brazo Derecho del Gigante!" His massive right arm unleashed a shockwave that sent dozens of reapers flying.

Ishida gawked. "Chad, your power's grown even more?"

Chad nodded solemnly. "The spirit energy here strengthens me."

Ishida agreed, feeling his bow surge with strength. Looking around, he frowned. "Wait… these numbers—this is the Twelfth Division!?"

In the Tenth Division, Hitsugaya Tōshirō stood atop a wall, glaring down at two women. "You… you're Shiba Kuukaku!?"

Though the youngest captain, he knew of Soul Society's noble clans. Kuchiki—guardians of order. Shihōin—masters of stealth. Tsunayashiro—keepers of the archives. Shiba—fallen nobles, once managers of transport. Ise—lords of ritual.

He had glimpsed Kuukaku before her family's fall. Now here she stood again, cigarette in hand.

"The little brat's grown into a captain. You gonna fight me?" she teased.

"Of course." Hitsugaya's blade gleamed with icy light. "As the Tenth Division captain, I won't let you run wild here."

Kuukaku blew smoke, smirking. "You know I'm not weaker than you."

She raised her hand, chanting:

"Scatter, beast bones! Tower, red crystal, iron wheels! The moving one is wind, the still one is sky! When spears clash, sound shakes the void! Hadō #63: Raikōhō!!"

Golden lightning roared forth like a dragon.

Hitsugaya's eyes widened. "Hadō #63!?"

But surprise gave way to resolve. His sword lifted high, his voice steady:

"Sit upon the frozen heavens—Hyōrinmaru!!"

White frost surged, colliding with the lightning. With a thunderous boom, ice spread outward, freezing the entire street in a crystalline world.
