Before leaving the Pirates of the Caribbean world, Morin had fought Tia Dalma-the so-called sea goddess.
Piloting the Demonic Sky-Slaying Blade armor, Morin had shredded the Kraken she controlled into pulp, forcing Tia Dalma to agree to a trade.
The deal was simple.
Morin would help her break her seal.
In return, Tia Dalma would teach him all the magic she knew and tell him the whereabouts of the Greek gods.
The main objective was magic knowledge.
Morin was still a beginner.
Aside from some self-developed tricks meant for show, most of his useful spells came directly from the system.
As for the Greek gods...
That part was pure curiosity.
Morin skipped forward in time, arriving at the moment Jack Sparrow used his compass to locate Tia Dalma.
The Black Pearl was already sailing toward her island.
The voyage was calm.
No storms.
Not even large waves.
"Are we almost there?" Morin stepped out of the captain's cabin and looked at Jack Sparrow.
Jack stared back at him as if he'd seen a ghost.
For dozens of days, Morin hadn't left the cabin.
He hadn't eaten.
He was silent.
Like a corpse.
Now he walked out, complexion normal, no strange smell at all.
Anyone would be shocked.
Except one person.
Jack.
"Boss, you're finally back," Jack grinned.
"Yeah," Morin replied calmly.
He immediately understood why Jack wasn't surprised.
Jack's compass pointed to what its owner desired most.
If his thoughts were chaotic, it spun aimlessly.
Jack must have tried finding Morin with it and failed.
That alone proved Morin hadn't been on the ship.
During the great battle, Jack had once used the compass to find someone to save him.
It had pointed to Morin.
That was why Jack never abandoned ship.
The compass could point to Morin.
Just not when Morin wasn't in this world.
"We're almost at where that woman lives," Jack said, pointing at a small nearby island.
He leaned in, lowering his voice.
"Boss, I'm warning you. Be careful. She's very possessive-especially toward handsome men like you and me."
"If I hadn't run fast back then, I'd still be stuck there."
Morin: "..."
"Don't worry," Morin said flatly. "I'm not interested in drowning in a sea of green hats."
"Lower the dinghy."
Tia Dalma lived in a hut deep within the island.
A narrow river connected it to the sea.
The island was densely forested.
Thick leaves blocked most of the sunlight.
Even during the day, it was dim.
The forest was unnaturally quiet.
No birds.
No insects.
No snakes.
Fortunately, only Morin and Jack were in the boat.
The atmosphere didn't affect Morin at all.
As for Jack...
Morin had never seen him afraid of anything.
If he ever was, he didn't show it.
After paddling for a while, they reached the deeper part of the island.
A slightly dilapidated hut stood by the water.
Light flickered inside.
Its owner was waiting.
"I have a question," Morin said casually. "How did you get here back then?"
"That's a long story," Jack sighed.
Rare for him.
"Make it short," Morin said.
Jack pulled out the compass.
"It's because of this."
"My dad gave it to me. I lost it in a storm."
"Later, I followed clues and ended up here."
"I see," Morin nodded.
That explained everything.
The apparent contradiction in the original story vanished.
In the fifth movie, Jack's father gave him the compass.
In the second, the witch claimed she did.
It was a timeline overlap.
As for the storm and the clues...
Tia Dalma was obviously behind it.
Even sealed, a former sea goddess creating a storm wasn't difficult.
She could take the compass, then guide Jack back to her.
The goal was obvious.
Have Jack agree to her terms and help break the seal.
As for why it failed later...
Morin could only assume Jack's charisma was too strong.
Tia Dalma probably fell for him by accident.
Back then, Jack Sparrow was prime material.
Young.
Handsome.
Rebellious.
It wasn't hard to imagine.
Which was also why Jack got slapped almost every time he met a woman.
Debts from the past always come due.
A few slaps just proved the charm was still working.
The dinghy docked.
The hut's door creaked open.
"You've arrived?" Tia Dalma sat at the table, speaking as they entered.
"I'm here for the trade," Morin said.
Straight to the point.
"You are powerful," Tia Dalma said seriously. "And mysterious."
"Where were you... before?"
"That's none of your business," Morin smiled faintly.
"I'm here to trade. Let's stick to that."
If Jack could sense his absence, Tia Dalma could too.
Former sea goddess.
She had methods.
"Very well," Tia Dalma said. "As agreed."
"You break my seal."
"I teach you my magic and tell you where the Greek gods are."
"Fine," Morin nodded. "Let's form a magic contract."
"No magic contract can bind a god," Tia Dalma's voice deepened, turning divine.
"I, Calypso, goddess of the sea, swear upon my true name to witness and fulfill this contract."
"If I fail, I renounce my godhood forever."
"...."
Silence filled the hut.
Jack looked at Morin.
Morin glanced at Jack.
Jack winked.
"Don't trust her."
"That oath doesn't give me any security," Morin said calmly.
Even without Jack's warning, he wouldn't have agreed.
What kind of oath was that?
Pure theatrics.
Unless he could test it-
And where would he find another god for that?
"So," Morin continued, "I have a better proposal."
"You give me all the magic knowledge first."
"No gods."
"After I break the seal, you tell me their location."
"Impossible," Tia Dalma shook her head.
"You can evade my tracking. You could vanish the moment you get what you want."
"Then half," Morin said.
"I'll add more."
"I'll give you Barbossa's body."
"You give me half the magic knowledge as a down payment."
Tia Dalma sneered.
"So you want benefits without doing anything?"
"I'd be stupid not to take a good deal," Morin said helplessly.
"I have leverage. Don't worry about my investment."
"Worry about how much I'm adding."
"...Add one more condition," Tia Dalma said after a pause.
"You must spend one night with me."
Morin: "???"
Who do you think I am?
I'm not a green-hat wholesaler.
And with that appearance?
Absolutely not.
"What if I looked like this?" Tia Dalma spun.
Light flashed.
A woman of fairy-like beauty appeared.
"My true form," Calypso smiled sweetly.
"Acceptable?"
"I can help with that," Jack interjected.
"Then I'll leave it to you," Morin said instantly.
Even if Calypso ranked among the most beautiful women Morin had ever seen-
It was still shapeshifting.
He could see through it.
Self-deception wasn't his style.
"I've already compromised a lot!" Calypso snapped.
"So have I," Morin sighed.
"My terms stand."
"Half the magic knowledge."
"You get Barbossa's body."
"And Jack."
"Just wash off his eyeliner and change his clothes."
Morin conjured an image-Johnny Depp from before transmigration.
"He looks good, right?"
"You're getting a great deal."
"I'm losing a ton."
Calypso: "..."
Are you serious?
If she knew Tencent culture, she'd recognize this instantly.
Classic you profit, I suffer routine.
After prolonged bargaining, the deal was finalized.
A win-win-win.
Magic knowledge was a system.
There was no true "half."
Morin guessed she'd teach half the spells.
That was enough.
He could reverse-engineer the rest.
Of course, he couldn't say that.
Business was business.
In other words-
Morin was about to acquire the entire magic system of this world.
And his cost?
A corpse with no rights.
And Jack.
Who had agreed.
Zero input.
Massive return.
A perfect deal.
"There's a lot of magic," Tia Dalma said with a displeased smile. "How do you plan to learn it?"
She had reverted to her witch form.
Shapeshifting consumed mana.
She was running low.
"What methods do you have?" Morin asked.
A backup was always necessary.
"You can study my books slowly," she said.
"Or I can teach you directly."
"No need," Morin replied. "I can't stay long."
He pulled Barbossa's body from his system space and set it aside.
"Give me the books."
"I'll leave."
"After you resurrect Barbossa, I'll help them collect the Pirate King totems and fulfill the contract."
