Morin's words made the three demons feel an instinctive sense of absurdity.
But Blackheart's order forced caution.
If Morin were truly weak, Blackheart would never have made killing him a condition for proving loyalty.
No matter how it was viewed, Blackheart was still a prince.
A powerless prince for thousands of years, yes-but status was status.
It was worth gambling.
The three demons exchanged glances.
How they communicated was unclear.
In the end, the Wind Demon moved first.
He would test Morin.
Morin found their behavior gratifying.
He calmly added another charge to their list of crimes.
"Assaulting a police officer. Obstructing law enforcement."
"Actually," he corrected himself, "that's two charges."
Then came the long-awaited crushing phase.
The Wind Demon's greatest strength was complete elementalization.
Wind form.
Immune to physical attacks.
Capable of overwhelming destruction.
But-
Even if Morin stood still and let him blast away for half a day, nothing would happen.
In game terms, it would just be:
Immune.
Immune.
Immune.
Dealing with elemental demons was simple.
Even wind was made of particles.
Morin constructed a powerful magnetic field in mid-air.
Instantly.
The Wind Demon was pinned in place.
Unable to move.
A magnetic field not formed by mana was invisible to demons.
So in their vision, the Wind Demon suddenly slammed into an unseen wall.
Spinning.
Colliding.
Trapped.
"What are you doing?!" Blackheart roared.
From his perspective, the Wind Demon was completely unobstructed.
Yet he was spinning helplessly in mid-air, refusing to charge.
That looked like betrayal.
Blackheart was furious.
"I don't know!" the Wind Demon panicked.
"I can't break through! There's a wall-no, it's everywhere!"
This was something he had never experienced.
But his voice never reached them.
Sound required vibration of a medium.
And Morin's magnetic field fixed every particle in place.
The medium could not vibrate.
Effectively nonexistent.
A unique, artificial "vacuum."
Sound could not travel.
This was theoretically possible only under extreme conditions.
Experimentally, it would require impossible materials and equipment.
But Morin-
Whose electromagnetic control surpassed Magneto at his peak-
Had no such limitations.
He did it effortlessly.
"What the hell are you doing?!" Blackheart grew even angrier when he saw the Wind Demon shouting soundlessly.
To these illiterates, only mana and spells could achieve such effects.
Without mana?
Impossible.
After raging for a moment, Blackheart finally realized something was wrong.
A chill crept in.
The culprit was obvious.
But the method?
He had no idea.
For the first time, Blackheart felt fear toward a human.
The unknown frightened even devils.
"All of you, attack!" Blackheart barked at the Earth and Water Demons.
They hesitated.
Exchanged looks.
Then obeyed.
But they were cautious.
No elementalization.
The Earth Demon summoned golems.
The Water Demon unleashed a massive torrent-no one knew where the water came from.
Morin didn't move.
The golems and water surged forward.
Then-
Halfway there, they abruptly reversed direction.
As if they had gained intelligence.
They carried the Earth and Water Demons with them-
And charged straight at Blackheart.
"What are you doing?!" Blackheart's eyes nearly bulged out.
The two demons said nothing.
They simply poured in more mana.
More golems.
More torrents.
All aimed at Blackheart.
They weren't elementalized.
So Morin used a simpler solution.
Mind control.
He watched calmly and spoke.
"So? Shall we continue our trade?"
No response.
"I'm curious," Morin continued casually.
"Why did Mephisto allow his son to come to Earth?"
"If he didn't agree, a prince who's waited thousands of years wouldn't have managed this."
"So what's the goal?"
Still silence.
"Three strikes," Morin nodded.
"Looks like he's not here."
"I'll capture them and dispose of them."
"I can't just let demons run wild on Earth."
He turned to leave.
"Wait!"
A figure appeared behind him.
"What do you want?!"
The voice carried barely restrained fury.
Morin turned around.
Ah.
The fat sheep he'd been thinking about-
Cough.
The old goat.
Mephisto.
"Yo," Morin greeted cheerfully.
"Long time no see. Lord of Hell."
"What brings you to Earth?"
"What do you want!" Mephisto snapped.
He had no patience left.
Before this, Mephisto had believed his plan flawless.
The contract with the Ancient One clearly stated-
No active interference.
Yet now-
Mephisto was absolutely certain.
The Ancient One had found a loophole.
There was no other explanation.
He had tested that contract in Hell.
Every method.
Every interpretation.
Even used souls to analyze it.
Nothing.
He had almost convinced himself he was wrong.
But now?
Who else could know his plan?
This human?
Possible.
But the probability was absurdly low.
If seeing the future were that common, the universe would already be in chaos.
Regardless, Morin had to be dealt with.
This plan couldn't fail.
"How can you ask what I want?" Morin sighed.
"That phrasing is problematic."
"I'm a police officer. A traffic cop."
"Managing trespassing demons is my duty."
"My punishment is fair. Legal."
"How could you phrase it as-"
"One billion dollars," Mephisto interrupted.
"And the same amount of magic as last time," Morin added.
"No repeats."
"Fine!" Mephisto agreed instantly.
"But you cannot obstruct Blackheart afterward."
"You cannot interfere with what they do!"
"Correction," Morin said calmly.
"They cannot harm humans."
"The moment they do, I intervene."
"...Fine."
"Deal."
Morin knew when to stop.
The gains were sufficient.
And in his haste, Mephisto forgot one thing.
He never said Morin couldn't intercept Johnny.
That was why Morin insisted on the human clause.
Once Blackheart's group harmed a human, Morin could act freely.
And prevent them from gaining strength unchecked.
The contract was signed quickly.
As always, Morin added Duke's clause.
Mephisto didn't even react.
First time, fury.
Second time, irritation.
Third time-
Numbness.
Habit was terrifying.
To be honest, Mephisto was even considering adding that clause himself someday.
Just in case.
Though the thought still stuck in his throat.
"Alright," Morin nodded.
"That's all for today."
He released the mind control.
Released the magnetic field.
And teleported away.
Mephisto approached Blackheart with a dark expression.
As control vanished, the golems and torrents dissipated.
The Earth and Water Demons stood frozen.
Terrified.
They had been conscious the entire time.
That was deliberate.
They had watched themselves attack Blackheart with full force.
Unable to stop.
Fear piled upon fear.
Now that it was over, all they could think about-
Was retaliation.
Blackheart staggered back, breathing hard.
If not for fear of Mephisto's punishment, he would have fled to Hell already.
Earth was terrifying.
First a monstrous human.
Then the Wind Demon acting "traitorous."
Then his own subordinates attacking him.
He felt completely played.
Then he sensed it.
A familiar presence.
Father.
"Was all of this your arrangement?"
Mephisto froze.
What the hell did Morin say to him?!
Had he been watching everything?!
No-telepathy.
That had to be it.
Damn it.
Mephisto's mind raced.
"Listen," he began, "to my-explanation-"
"I won't listen!" Blackheart snapped.
"It really was you!"
"You turned them against me!"
Mephisto: "..."
I thought you realized I was using you from the start.
I overestimated you.
"Idiot," Mephisto said coldly.
"They were mind-controlled by that human."
"Heh," Blackheart sneered.
"You think I'll believe that?"
"If I hadn't paid an enormous price," Mephisto snapped back,
"he would've played you like puppets and killed you without effort!"
"We were controlled," the Earth and Water Demons whispered hurriedly.
"Our bodies weren't ours."
The Wind Demon lay on the ground, dizzy.
His particles had been magnetized.
Only his demonic constitution kept him alive.
"Shut up!" Blackheart shouted.
Then he glared at Mephisto.
"What do you want to do?"
"Come back," Mephisto said gently.
"Earth isn't a place you can run wild."
"That human promised me-if you don't harm humans, he won't interfere."
"But you must return to Hell."
"As long as we don't harm humans?" Blackheart caught the words instantly.
He smiled.
"You're still weak, Father."
"I'm not going back."
"Why did you come to Earth?"
"Because you refuse to give me the throne!"
"It will be yours eventually!"
"Bullshit!" Blackheart exploded.
"You've said that for 13,562 years!"
"Once a year. Sometimes more!"
"Where is there a prince for ten thousand years?!"
"I mean it this time," Mephisto replied reflexively.
"...Fine," Blackheart suddenly said.
"I'll go back."
Mephisto: "???"
No.
You're not playing by the rules.
You can't just agree like that!
How am I supposed to respond now?!
