Volume 4: Hunter Exam
Emiya returned to the My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU world with Shizuka Hiratsuka, who first made a series of phone calls to her friends and family to let them know she was back from her trip.
Emiya originally intended to use this time to leave, stay at home for a couple of days, and then explore a new world. However, Shizuka stopped him.
"I've run into a little trouble," she said, looking at Emiya with an embarrassed expression. "Could you help me?"
"Sure," Emiya agreed readily. It was just an ordinary world, and with Shizuka's status, any trouble she faced couldn't be too major.
Emiya figured he could handle it. What he didn't expect, however, was what Shizuka meant by "trouble"...
About an hour later, in a high-end cafe in Chiba City.
"Mom, Dad, this is the boyfriend I've been telling you about. He's from China," Shizuka said with a smile, introducing Emiya to the man and woman sitting across from her.
Sitting beside Shizuka, Emiya was speechless. He never imagined that this would be the "trouble" Shizuka mentioned.
When did I become your boyfriend? Isn't this a lie?
Emiya opened his mouth, ready to expose Shizuka, but she subtly elbowed him in the ribs, a fairly strong poke that made him gasp in pain.
Shizuka's father, a dignified man, focused his gaze on Emiya upon hearing his daughter's introduction. "My daughter tells me you're from China, Emiya-san?"
Emiya nodded.
"How long have you two known each other?" Shizuka's father continued to ask.
"Since this summer."
"So, you haven't known each other for long."
Emiya nodded again, and Shizuka quickly interjected, "Even though we haven't known each other for long, we're very compatible. Isn't fate the most important thing between a man and a woman?"
Shizuka's father surprisingly agreed, nodding. "That's true."
At that moment, Shizuka's mother spoke up. "Emiya-san, I don't care how long you've known each other. I just want to ask one question: after you get married, will you live in China or Japan?"
"In Japan, of course. After all, I work here, and Emiya is a master martial artist. He can open a dojo in Japan," Shizuka replied.
Emiya was astonished, glancing at Shizuka. He never knew she could spin such tales.
Hearing that Emiya was a master martial artist, Shizuka's father immediately understood why his daughter liked him, recalling her own passion for martial arts.
But he was even more interested in Emiya's strength. "So, Emiya-san, you're very skilled then?"
Shizuka went all out with her praise. "Emiya is the most formidable martial artist I've ever met."
Shizuka's father grew more intrigued. Men always have a
soft spot for martial prowess. "Please, allow me to see your skills, Emiya-san."
Shizuka chimed in, "Since Dad asked, Emiya, why don't you show him?"
She was completely unafraid of being exposed. After all, Emiya's strength was truly immense, especially after drinking the super-soldier serum. His physical abilities alone were superior to hers. There was no way he could be exposed.
Emiya hadn't even said a few words, yet Shizuka had already laid out everything for him. He glared at her, then pulled a 500 yen coin from his pocket.
"Please forgive my humble display," Emiya said, holding the coin between his thumb and forefinger, and with a light squeeze, he folded it in half.
This kind of feat, which usually only happened on TV, was performed right in front of Shizuka's father, leaving him utterly amazed. Everyone knew how thick and hard a coin was. In a world without superpowers, folding a coin with just two fingers was completely unheard of.
Shizuka's father, who understood the difficulty, was instantly awestruck. To confirm Emiya hadn't used any tricks, he asked to inspect the coin. Emiya handed him the folded coin.
As he examined it, Shizuka's father kept saying,
"Incredible, incredible."
Emiya wanted to tell him to stop, that his own daughter, Shizuka, could also do the same thing.
In any case, after this small test, Shizuka's father no
longer doubted Emiya's claim as a master martial artist and no longer objected to him dating his daughter.
Shizuka's mother, while not saying much the whole time, seemed quite pleased with Emiya.
Around noon, they all had lunch together at a nearby upscale restaurant. Close to two in the afternoon, the parents reluctantly said their goodbyes to Shizuka and left in a luxurious car.
After the two elders had left, Emiya gave Shizuka a sidelong glance. She turned her head away, not daring to look at him.
Emiya stared at her intently. Shizuka felt embarrassed by his stare and couldn't help but ask, "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Is this the trouble you were talking about?"
"What else was I supposed to do?" Shizuka said helplessly. "My mom has been trying to set me up on dates, so I had no choice but to ask for your help."
"I thought you liked going on dates?" Emiya asked.
"Who likes dating? I just want to get married already.
Besides, every time I go on a date, I meet some cocky guy who thinks he's all that. They have so many problems and are so weird, so why do they get to be picky and look down on me?"
Hearing Shizuka's self-deprecating outburst, Emiya couldn't help but roll his eyes. Why did they look down on you? Don't you have any idea?
At first, when Emiya watched the anime, he felt that the men in Japan must be blind to not want a good woman like Shizuka and felt sorry for her.
But after actually meeting and interacting with her,
Emiya no longer felt that way.
She was a beautiful woman, yet she liked to smoke, read manga, and had a tendency toward violence, acting like a middle-aged man.
Who would be interested in you?
A woman like this would be great as a friend, even a close one, but most men would probably refuse to make her a wife or a girlfriend.
This was why Shizuka was still unmarried after so many dates. Although beautiful, this woman's personality was truly terrible.
Perhaps only a man like Hachiman Hikigaya could tolerate her. But mentioning Hachiman Hikigaya suddenly reminded Emiya of something.
"Oh, right, tomorrow is the first day of school at Sobu High, isn't it?"
"Yeah, why?" Shizuka asked.
"If I remember correctly, on the first day of school, the male protagonist, Hachiman Hikigaya, gets hit by a car while saving the female protagonist's dog. The driver is the other female protagonist's chauffeur," Emiya said.
Emiya and Shizuka had spent a lot of time together, so he knew when the story of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU began.
"What? Why didn't you tell me something so important sooner?" Shizuka exclaimed loudly.
Emiya leaned back tactically, rubbing his ears. "I'm telling you now. It's happening tomorrow, so you have plenty of time to stop it."
Shizuka clicked her tongue. "What's the exact time and
location?"
"How would I know?"
"Didn't you watch the show?"
"I did, but at the beginning of the story, you've already forced Hachiman Hikigaya to join Yukino Yukinoshita's Service Club. He's already a second-year student by then.
The incident is in the past, a memory that only appears in a flashback," Emiya said, spreading his hands.
"I only know it happened on the first day of school and that Hachiman Hikigaya stayed in the hospital for three weeks because of it, but I don't know the exact time or location."
Shizuka ruffled her hair in frustration, then took out her phone and made a call to someone.
"Hello, is that Haruno? I need a favor from you. You'll be taking your sister to school tomorrow, right?"
"What? Why do I care? Don't worry about that, just listen to what I need you to do."
"Anyway, when you go to school tomorrow, don't drive. Walk to Sobu High. Did you hear me?"
"No, no, it's not okay. You have to walk. There's no negotiation on this. You absolutely can't drive."
"Otherwise, I'll fall out with you, Haruno."
"Anyway, that's it. Bye."
After the call, Shizuka hung up decisively and smiled brightly. "Done."
Emiya looked at her. "Are you sure she'll listen to you?"
"Don't worry, based on what I know about Haruno, she definitely won't drive to Sobu High tomorrow."
Emiya nodded. "Alright. As long as you're confident."
He had already said what needed to be said. If Hachiman Hikigaya still got hit by the car, Emiya could only say he was unlucky.
After this, Emiya planned to leave. But with so many people in this world, he couldn't just disappear. He had to return to Shizuka's house before leaving this world.
However, on their way back, they came across a bookstore, and Emiya's interest was piqued.
He wanted to know if there were any other manga or light novels in this world besides One Piece that didn't exist in his own world.
With this thought, Emiya entered the bookstore.
He went straight to the light novel section and found a large number of books he had never seen before.
A few of the titles looked particularly familiar.
To be honest, when Emiya saw those titles, he almost thought he was mistaken. The meaning of the book titles was far beyond his imagination.
Love Metronome, Explosive Dark Fairy, Phantom Demon Blade Saga...
