----------------------------------------------------------
After arriving in the new world, Emiya opened his eyes to a sea of fire.
Based on his judgment, this place had once been a laboratory. Now, it had been mercilessly consumed by flames.
He could vaguely make out human remains scattered among the ruins.
Without question, this was a human tragedy.
Emiya sensed no signs of life.
Without question, everyone who had worked here had already been burned to death, and the ruthless flames were still spreading.
Emiya let out a quiet sigh.
Seeing a scene like this the moment he arrived in a new world did nothing for his mood.
"Who are you?"
A voice suddenly came from behind him.
Emiya froze.
...A living person?
Why didn't I sense it?
He was normally extremely sensitive to signs of life.
With faint confusion, Emiya turned around.
A woman wearing a cloak and hood entered his field of view.
The wide hood concealed half her face.
Only her mouth was visible.
She stood calmly in the raging sea of fire, yet not a single flame approached her.
It was as if even the fire itself avoided her.
This was definitely not an ordinary woman.
Emiya raised an eyebrow.
The woman in front of him was not human.
She wasn't even truly alive.
No wonder he hadn't sensed any life from her.
She gave him a strange feeling-neither living nor dead.
To be honest, Emiya had never seen an existence like this.
"Your gaze is very rude," the cloaked woman said.
Emiya quickly apologized.
"I'm sorry. I've just never seen anyone like you before, so I got curious. If I made you uncomfortable, I apologize."
The cloaked woman let out a soft chuckle.
"Are you a magus?"
"Magus?" Emiya shook his head. "Not really. I'm more of an adventurer."
Whether it was Axel or Orario, he was a genuine adventurer.
"An adventurer?" Her voice carried a hint of surprise.
She looked him up and down.
"Since when do adventurers possess such a powerful life force?"
"I'm an exception," Emiya said calmly.
"Let's introduce ourselves. My name is Emiya. And you?"
The cloaked woman fell silent.
After a moment, she spoke.
"You can call me Caster."
Caster?
What kind of name was that?
Caster. A cloak. Magi. Flames. A laboratory. Human remains.
The pieces connected in Emiya's mind.
"...Medea?" he asked tentatively.
The woman's body stiffened.
She reached up and removed her hood.
Long blue hair fell free. Blue eyes. Pointed ears clearly unlike those of a normal human.
A braid rested on the left side of her head, and her lips were painted a deep purple.
There was no doubt about it.
The woman before him was the princess of Colchis from the Age of Gods.
The disciple of the goddess of witchcraft, Hecate.
The betrayed witch.
Medea.
No wonder her existence felt so abnormal.
Neither alive nor dead.
A Heroic Spirit.
"Who are you?" Medea asked again.
This time, her tone carried unmistakable killing intent.
"My name is Emiya. An adventurer," Emiya replied. "I'm not lying. That really is my name. I'm also an adventurer from another world."
Medea was visibly taken aback.
Slowly, she said, "The user of the Second Magic should be the Marshal of the Magus Association."
Emiya shook his head.
"It's not the Second Magic. It's something more advanced. The Second Magic only allows travel between parallel worlds."
"I can travel between entirely different worlds."
"I've been to another world. Seen yokai. Become friends with gods."
Medea: "..."
"Your life is... quite rich."
"You could say that," Emiya replied casually.
"So," Medea asked, "what is your purpose in coming to this world?"
"To explore a new world."
Emiya didn't hide it.
"My ability isn't fully under my control. The travel is random. This time, I ended up in the Nasuverse."
"The Nasuverse?"
"That's right. It's the code name for your world."
"What does that mean?"
"Nothing special. Just a convenient label. For example, I've been to a world with gods and a dungeon, so I call it the 'Danmachi' world."
Medea showed some interest.
"Why 'Danmachi'? Why not 'Gods and Dungeon'?"
Emiya thought for a moment.
"In my world, that place is actually a light novel."
"...DanMachi."
"So I usually call it the Danmachi world."
Medea's eyebrow lifted, and she quickly grasped the implication.
"You're saying you entered a world that came from a novel?"
Emiya nodded.
"You could put it that way."
Medea's expression immediately cooled.
"You just called my world the Nasuverse."
"Then is my world also a novel?"
"It has novels, games, and anime," Emiya said. "It's a very popular series."
"You expect me to believe that?"
"If you don't, I can take you to my world and show you."
"This is becoming more absurd by the second," Medea said coldly. "If I were merely a character in a novel, how could I enter your world?"
As a disciple of Hecate, she knew this better than anyone.
Gods could create humans, but they could not pull fictional characters into reality.
Ascending dimensions was no trivial matter.
"To be honest, I don't fully understand it either," Emiya said. "But my guess is that your world transitioned from being a story into a real world."
"My ability allows world travel, not entering novels."
Medea fell silent.
After a long pause, she spoke seriously.
"I want to go to your world."
"Alright."
Emiya snapped his fingers.
In the next instant, Medea was brought into his world.
"If I remember correctly," Emiya said, "Heroic Spirits automatically learn how to use modern appliances when summoned, right?"
Medea nodded.
Emiya turned on the television.
Fate/stay night-The Fifth Holy Grail War began playing.
Medea sat on the sofa, expression unreadable.
Emiya sat beside her, rewatching a familiar classic.
Unlike the Fourth Holy Grail War, which was an ensemble story, the Fifth revolved entirely around one protagonist.
Shirou Emiya.
Everything unfolded from his perspective.
When the scene reached Rin Tohsaka using reinforcement magic and Hakyokuken to beat Medea down, the Medea sitting beside Emiya visibly darkened.
Emiya immediately tried to smooth things over.
"Don't worry. You're not the only Heroic Spirit Rin has beaten up. In other parallel worlds, Devil Muscle Rin can tear Servants apart barehanded."
Medea glanced at him.
Her face remained blank.
Her eyes did not.
Emiya laughed awkwardly and shut up.
Later, the story reached the deaths of Souichirou Kuzuki and Medea.
Emiya stole a glance at her.
She remained expressionless, as if the one killed by Gilgamesh on-screen wasn't her.
Several hours later, Fate/stay night ended.
Medea still said nothing.
She seemed to be thinking.
"Actually," Emiya said, "there are multiple timelines."
"What we watched was the Saber route. The one where Artoria and Shirou fall in love."
"There's also the Rin route."
He switched it on.
The beginning was similar.
The later developments were not.
One thing stayed the same.
Medea was still beaten by Rin Tohsaka.
Emiya noticed Medea's face had grown terrifyingly dark.
A few more hours passed.
The Rin route ended.
"There's also the Sakura route," Emiya continued. "But it's a movie series, and it's not finished yet. Want to watch it?"
Medea thought briefly.
"...Alright."
Emiya played Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel.
Only the first two movies.
Partway through, Emiya noticed something off.
Medea's body was beginning to sway.
He immediately understood.
She was running out of mana.
Magical energy.
In the Fifth Holy Grail War, Medea's Master had been a wealthy man from the Middle East.
A third-rate magus.
Someone who refined magical energy using human lives.
He had foolishly provoked Medea.
After using up his three Command Spells, she killed him.
His workshop was destroyed.
The laboratory ruins Emiya had first seen were likely that very place.
And without a Master, Medea had fallen into mana depletion.
If Emiya hadn't interfered, she would have eventually met Souichirou Kuzuki at Ryuudou Temple.
But now-
Emiya had taken her away.
Emiya: ...
In a way, it seemed like he had broken up yet another destined couple.
How many was that now?
He'd lost count.
Was he secretly a member of the FFF-Burning Legion?
But looking at Medea's current condition, it was clearly too late to find Souichirou Kuzuki.
Emiya hesitated.
Then he asked, "Do you want to form a contract with me?"
Medea raised her head and looked at him.
"You want to form a contract with me," she said slowly,
"with a witch who is known for betraying others?"
