Chapter 29 – Call for Unity

Dusk settled slowly over the Dark Elf settlement. The great stone hall beneath the roots of an ancient tree glowed faintly with violet crystals. The scent of damp earth mixed with shadowy mist weighed heavily on the air, filling the chamber with unease.

At the center, the elders sat in a circle upon stone seats etched with runes of old. Their eyes were sharp, full of doubt and caution.

Valdyn Thalorian stood before them. His golden hair glimmered faintly, a stark contrast to the surrounding darkness. Beside him, Nymeris stood tall, her silver eyes steady, her presence silently vouching for him.

---

Valdyn's voice rang through the chamber, firm yet measured.

"Elders, we all know the state of our people. The Forest Elves live under pressure, you Dark Elves hide in shadow, and the Snow Elves in the far north are nearly forgotten. Since the Great War, our numbers have dwindled. If we remain scattered, we will vanish."

One elder woman struck her staff against the floor, her voice raspy but fierce.

"You speak as though all problems can be solved by leaving. This land is our ancestral soil, Valdyn Thalorian. Do you ask us to betray the shadows that have sheltered us for eight decades?"

Valdyn held her gaze, then exhaled slowly.

"No. I ask you not to betray your ancestors, but to preserve their legacy. If we cling only to pride and lose every life, what meaning remains of that legacy? Forest Elves and Dark Elves must unite, or hope will die with us."

---

A scarred male elder rose.

"You speak boldly, but who are you? A youth who has not yet reached full maturity. What gives you the right to lead us?"

Several nodded, murmurs of discontent filling the hall.

Before Valdyn could respond, Nymeris stepped forward. Her voice was cold yet commanding.

"He is not just a youth. He defeated me in a duel, led our young ones in their first clash with humans, and stood tall where others faltered. If that is not enough to prove who he is, then what more do you require?"

The chamber fell into silence. The elders stared at Nymeris with shock. She was their own leader, and she had just cast her support behind Valdyn.

---

The oldest elder, his hair white and eyes dim silver, finally spoke.

"If we follow you, we abandon this land. If we stay, we may die. What guarantee do you offer, Valdyn Thalorian, that your path is not simply another road to ruin?"

Valdyn stepped into the center of the circle. He knelt, pressing his head low.

"I swear to the ancestors, to this world, and to you: as long as I breathe, I will protect every Elf who follows me. The Forest Elves are not a perfect haven, but they are a beginning. From there, we will grow again. From there, we will be reborn. That is my oath."

The hall fell utterly still. His words lingered like both a prayer and a challenge.

---

At last, the elder lifted his staff.

"Then we will test your road, Valdyn Thalorian. We will march west. May your oath prove more than words."

A few young Dark Elves cheered quietly, though some elders still frowned. The decision was made: migration would begin.

Nymeris turned to Valdyn, her lips curving into a faint smile.

"You've done it. But this is only the beginning."

Valdyn nodded. He knew well: the true trials still lay ahead.

---

A familiar chime echoed in his mind.

Valdyn clenched his fist. A small step… but the foundation of our people's future.

---

That night, Valdyn sat alone beneath the moonlight at the camp's edge. His eyes fixed on the stars, his heart restless.

"Tomorrow I will reveal my secret to the elders. They must know… and they must accept the truth. If they don't… everything may collapse."
