Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 – Counterstrike

The warehouse was quiet except for the hum of machines and the clicking of keyboards. Rafael sat at the center table, the Codex's faint glow hovering above a stack of folders. His crew—once ordinary workers, now battle-hardened innovators—watched him with restless energy.

HydraCorp had struck first with their lawsuit, expecting him to crumble. But Rafael had no intention of playing defense forever.

The Codex's cold script unfolded before his eyes:

"Strategic Recommendation: File Counter-Suit. Claims: Corporate Sabotage, Market Manipulation, Violation of Fair Competition Act. Evidence Required: Digital trails of HydraCorp interference, witness testimony, financial records linking hostile acts."

Rafael tapped the table. "They think the law is their weapon. Fine. Let's turn it against them."

Gasps rose from his people. One of his engineers spoke hesitantly: "Boss… suing HydraCorp? That's like an ant trying to bite a tiger."

Rafael smiled grimly. "Then we'll bite where it hurts most—where the tiger doesn't expect."

The next days blurred into a frenzy. The Codex sifted through public records, financial disclosures, and obscure legal documents. With its help, Rafael traced how HydraCorp had bribed local inspectors to delay AquaPure's permits. He uncovered fake safety reports planted to tarnish their image. Even emails leaked from a former HydraCorp employee pointed to deliberate sabotage.

Piece by piece, a case of HydraCorp's corruption took shape.

The Codex flashed:

"Counter-Suit File Prepared. Estimated Impact: Major Media Scandal. Risk: High Retaliation. Success Probability: 47% (rising with public pressure)."

Rafael stared at the glowing words, then at his weary but determined team. "We'll file it. If we fall, at least the world will know what they did."

The filing hit the courts like a thunderclap. AquaPure vs. HydraCorp: Unfair Competition and Sabotage.

News anchors who had once doubted Rafael now leaned in with sharp curiosity. "Has the small startup turned the tables? If proven true, HydraCorp could face billions in damages and government probes."

Social media exploded. Hashtags like #DavidVsGoliath and #HydraExposed trended. University students marched with AquaPure banners, chanting against corporate greed.

HydraCorp, caught off guard, scrambled to respond. Their lawyers dismissed it as a "desperate counter-attack by a failing company." But the documents Rafael filed were undeniable—and the court accepted them for review.

That night, as the warehouse buzzed with cautious celebration, Rafael slipped away to the rooftop. Manila stretched beneath him—glittering, chaotic, alive.

For the first time, he didn't feel like he was just surviving. He was fighting back.

The Codex pulsed faintly, like a heartbeat in his mind.

"Trajectory Altered. You are no longer prey. Prepare: HydraCorp escalation imminent. Expect clandestine operations."

Rafael exhaled, the night air sharp against his skin. He knew this wasn't the end. HydraCorp wouldn't just fight in courts and markets anymore.

They'd fight in the shadows.

And he'd be ready.
