Chapter 17 - Ch.17

A little green turtle with a seedling on its head led two men, a woman, a yellow rat, and a blue penguin to a cozy little house in the forest. This strange group was, of course, Ash and his friends, who had recently caught Turtwig.

They came here at Turtwig's request to say a final goodbye to the home's owner, an elderly woman with white hair named Yukino. She was one of Turtwig's few good friends in the forest. Ash, naturally, didn't object.

When Yukino saw Turtwig and the group behind it, she was slightly startled, as if she understood what was happening. She reluctantly said her farewells to Turtwig.

"Turtwig is a kind-hearted child who loves to take care of its friends. Although it can sometimes go overboard, it's still a very warm and caring Pokémon," Yukino said as she knelt and stroked Turtwig's head. "So, I'm entrusting this child to you."

Yukino's face was filled with reluctance, but she knew that following a trainer was the best choice for Turtwig's growth. As she picked up Turtwig and handed it to Ash, her wrinkled face looked incredibly serious.

"Don't worry, ma'am. I'll make sure this Pokémon shines at the Lily of the Valley Conference!" Ash replied, taking the 13kg Turtwig with one hand thanks to his super Pallet Town physique. He then patted his chest with his other hand, making a solemn promise.

"Oh... that's wonderful!" Yukino was stunned for a moment by Ash's one-handed catch, then a look of satisfaction appeared on her face. She believed that with such strength, Ash must be an excellent trainer, and his promise would surely come true.

After successfully saying goodbye to Yukino, Ash, Dawn, and Brock continued their journey with their new member, Turtwig. The road was still filled with laughter. Pikachu and Piplup became good friends, training and playing together as they walked. This often brought a warm smile to the trio's faces.

During this time, Ash used his backpack system to check Turtwig's data.

Defense (31)

Sp. Defense (31)

Speed (31)

Strength: Normal

"Turtwig's stats are incredible!" Ash exclaimed. Looking at the data, the amazing IVs caught his attention. It had 4 perfect IVs and 2 near-perfect ones, making it a little superstar. The fact that its Speed and Attack were perfect explained why it was so fast and strong even in its basic form. This was all due to its natural talent.

The move Curse in its moveset was also a pleasant surprise. The effect of Curse depends on whether the Pokémon using it has a Ghost type. If a non-Ghost-type Pokémon uses it, its speed decreases by one stage, but its Attack and Defense increase by one stage. This move wasn't very useful for Turtwig at the moment, but it would be very effective once it evolved into Torterra. A speed decrease wouldn't matter much for a slow-moving tank like Torterra, making Curse a purely beneficial move. Based on all the data, Ash was certain that Turtwig was an excellent prospect. With proper training, it would definitely become his main Grass-type powerhouse in Sinnoh.

In short, Turtwig's training potential was very high.

It was evening, and the sky was starting to get dark. With a city still a distance away, Brock, being the most experienced, decided to set up camp in an empty area. Ash and Dawn agreed. Ash quickly got out his tent and began preparing the campsite with Brock.

"Wow, you guys are so fast at setting up tents! You've already done twice as much as I have!" Dawn said in awe as she watched Ash and Brock finish their own tents and start helping her.

"It's just practice. Brock and I have traveled through three regions already. We're masters at setting up tents. You'll get just as good in no time," Ash said with a smile as he put up the frame. Brock, who was busy setting up the cooking equipment, just chuckled and didn't deny it.

"Alright, all done." After setting up Dawn's pink tent, Ash accepted her thanks and went to a nearby empty spot to train his Pokémon.

Starly continued its long-distance flight training with Pidgeot to improve its endurance. Pikachu focused on reviewing the moves it had learned over the past few days, as well as its old ones. Scyther continued to train on its own against wild Pokémon. It had already met the conditions to evolve, but it seemed to want to get stronger first before evolving. Ash respected Scyther's request and didn't pressure it.

Ash's main focus was on training Turtwig.

"Aipom, your job is to train with Turtwig. Throw the nearby stones at Turtwig."

"As for you, Turtwig, your job is to dodge the stones Aipom throws to improve your dodging ability." Ash knelt down and explained the plan in detail to both of them.

Soon, the two Pokémon stood on opposite sides and began their training for the day. This exercise would benefit both of them. Turtwig's dodging practice would lay the foundation for the future. By learning to dodge with minimal movement now, it would be able to avoid most attacks even after it evolved into a large Pokémon. As for Aipom, throwing stones would train its throwing skills. This skill would be very useful, as it could throw objects as projectiles in battle. For Aipom, with its tail, it had a natural advantage. It could even carry stones to throw at an opponent's weak spots like a ninja. All in all, these two were a perfect training pair for the time being.
