Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Mind-Body Disturbance Jutsu Ineffective?

Chapter 14: Mind-Body Disturbance Jutsu Ineffective?

"How is this possible?"

Yamanaka Kakyū stared at Li Yao in disbelief, a deep flicker of apprehension flashing through his eyes.

"What's wrong?" the Third Hokage stepped forward with a frown, asking in a low tone.

Kakyū turned toward him, took a step back to stand beside the Third, then looked back at Li Yao like he was some kind of anomaly, marveling, "Hokage-sama, I can't invade his chakra to use the Mind-Body Disturbance: Memory Probing Technique."

"Impossible!" The Third froze for a second, then whipped his head around to glare at Kakyū, visibly shocked.

The Mind-Body Disturbance Technique was one of the Yamanaka clan's most prized secret arts. Even the Third himself would fall victim to it if caught off guard—and now Kakyū was saying that someone who couldn't even move had resisted it?

That made no sense.

The Third took several steps forward, brought his right hand up, and pressed two fingers together, focusing chakra into them. He tapped the back of Li Yao's neck.

Instantly, dark sealing patterns surfaced across Li Yao's skin like dense spiderwebs.

After confirming that the seal was still intact, the Third's face grew even more serious. His brows furrowed deeply.

"His chakra has been sealed using the Four Symbols Restriction Seal."

That was a seal powerful enough to bind even the Nine-Tails' chakra—not only could it imprison a soul, but it completely sealed off chakra flow.

Once under this seal, the target's chakra could not be moved at all, rendering them completely powerless.

It was like having someone tied up in chains and handed over to be executed—yet somehow, they couldn't be killed and even retaliated?

The Third couldn't understand. He glanced at Kakyū again, beginning to suspect he might be faking this—but that didn't make sense either.

The Yamanaka Clan had long been allies of the Sarutobi Clan, dating back to the Warring States Era. They were one of the most loyal supporters of his rule.

He had even trusted Kakyū with the soul-possession intel—one of the greatest secrets of immortality—allowing him to lead the mental probe.

That trust wasn't given lightly.

Kakyū had no reason to lie to him.

But how could someone, whose chakra was completely sealed, possibly resist the Mind-Body Technique?

"Hokage-sama, I swear I'm not lying!" Kakyū, seeing doubt in the Third's eyes, hurriedly explained.

"The chakra in this person's body possesses an extremely strong sense of self. It not only easily distinguishes my chakra, but it behaves like a flawless steel cable—no cracks, no weaknesses. My chakra is like water—it tries to seep in, but there's nowhere to go."

"Unless…" Kakyū hesitated, then asked tentatively, "Can we kill him?"

"He cannot die," the Third responded immediately. Until he acquired the modified Spirit Transformation Technique, the boy had to remain alive.

"Then I have no solution," Kakyū said, shaking his head.

The Yamanaka Clan's Mind-Body techniques were secret for a reason. Even if someone else saw the hand seals, they couldn't use them.

The reason? The Mind-Body Technique relied on a special form of chakra—one tailored specifically for mental invasion.

Without this specific chakra, knowing the jutsu was meaningless.

This special chakra's defining trait was its high penetrability.

Once it entered the opponent's chakra system, it could ride the flow to the brain and extract memories.

That was how the Memory Probe variant worked.

Of course, it was even simpler with the dead—he could just insert this chakra directly into the brain and extract any residual data.

That's why Kakyū had asked if the boy could be killed.

But he didn't know that the child before him had already died—and was now being controlled by another soul via the Spirit Transformation Technique.

The Third hadn't told him.

If Kimura Yō were dead and the invading soul had dissipated, then even probing the brain would only reveal the original's memories—not the controller's.

Only if Kimura Yō were still "alive" could they probe the invader's chakra and thus access the soul's memories.

So Kimura Yō had to live.

But if they wanted to extract enemy memories without killing him, they would have to go through his chakra—there was no other way.

If they tried to force their way into the brain, the conflicting chakra would cause the brain to rupture like tofu—killing the host.

The problem now was, the target's chakra had such a strong sense of self that Kakyū's couldn't even get inside—it was thrown out the moment it tried to enter.

And Kakyū was completely helpless against it.

He could feel the boy's chakra reacting as though it were alive—consciously detecting and repelling foreign chakra with high precision.

That made the Mind-Body Technique unusable.

In other words, this person was the Yamanaka Clan's natural enemy—immune to their signature jutsu.

That thought sparked a flicker of killing intent in Kakyū's heart.

"This person… is too dangerous."

"I must figure out how he gave his chakra such a strong will."

Kakyū thought to himself silently.

On the Third's side, after hearing the full explanation, he believed Kakyū—but he was still full of questions.

Chakra with a powerful sense of self?

How?

Could chakra with self-awareness resist high-level jutsu, even when sealed?

Was that why he could maintain high-speed chakra generation?

There were ways to create autonomous chakra constructs—like shadow clones—but those required massive amounts of chakra to sustain.

Yet according to Kakyū, this boy's chakra was like that from the very beginning—each unit of chakra independently self-aware.

That level of defense would allow it to sense and reject invasive techniques like the Mind-Body Jutsu.

But how could a person possibly achieve that?

Could the modified Spirit Transformation Technique strengthen the soul so much that every drop of chakra gained independent will?

That had to be it.

Suddenly, the Third's eyes lit up.

In the Warring States era, shinobi who used the Spirit Transformation Technique to possess new bodies never lived more than a year.

Why?

Because of soul-body rejection. The soul was eroded during the adaptation process.

Every single time, the possessor died before reaching a full year.

But if the modified version of the Spirit Transformation Technique could greatly enhance soul strength—

Then the soul might adapt quickly without deteriorating, even thriving post-possession.

It could even mean the soul could continually grow stronger, leaping from one body to the next—

Achieving true immortality.

Yes!

That had to be it!

The more he thought, the more convinced the Third became that he had discovered the secret behind the person who possessed Kimura Yō.

And that secret—

He had to obtain it.

With that, he looked at Kakyū and ordered, "Try illusion inducement."
