Chapter 29: Ninjutsu Chakra Attributes
Within his perception, the chakra embedded in the sealing formula continuously emitted a distinct fluctuation.
It was precisely this unique fluctuation, like an invisible force field, that held Li Yao's chakra in place—rendering it as immobile as if it were trapped inside a pillar of cement.
Beyond this peculiar fluctuation, the chakra within the sealing formula was fundamentally different from ordinary chakra.
It was like how raw iron ore, once forged and processed, becomes swords or bolts—given a specific purpose, no longer just a shapeless lump of ore.
In his perception, ordinary chakra resembled unprocessed iron ore—raw and undefined.
Whereas the chakra in the sealing formula was refined and purposeful, like crafted blades or tools.
Thinking back, Li Yao recalled that when he had used the Clone Technique and Transformation Technique six months ago, his chakra indeed felt different from its normal state.
It was like his chakra, originally without properties, had been developed into having distinct attributes.
"That's it—attributes!"
Li Yao suddenly remembered the concept of chakra nature types. By using chakra attributes to distinguish normal chakra from the kind used in jutsu, it all made sense.
As is widely known, chakra attributes are categorized into Water, Fire, Earth, Lightning, Wind—as well as Yin and Yang—making seven in total.
Water-nature chakra enables Water Release techniques.
Fire-nature chakra allows for Fire Release.
And so on for the other attributes.
In short, possessing the corresponding chakra nature is the foundation for casting related elemental jutsu.
But does chakra only come in these seven attributes?
Previously, Li Yao might have said yes.
But now, he was certain there were more. These seven are merely the fundamental types—common to most people.
Beyond them, other chakra attributes exist.
For instance, each Kekkei Genkai possesses its own unique chakra attribute.
Though many of these are combinations of two basic chakra types—
Like Lava Release, which merges Fire and Earth; or Boil Release, a fusion of Water and Earth.
Still, can one really claim that Lava-nature chakra isn't a new attribute?
No, one can't.
Because Lava Release chakra clearly isn't among the seven basic types.
Thus, Lava Release techniques can only be performed by someone who possesses that specific chakra nature.
Based on this, Li Yao inferred that even the basic ninjutsu techniques—Clone and Transformation—must involve a specific chakra attribute of their own.
It's just that the changes in these types of chakra are minimal compared to their base state, making them almost imperceptible to the average ninja.
Only someone like Li Yao, whose soul and chakra were fully fused, could detect such subtle differences.
From these observations, Li Yao boldly theorized:
The chakra in the sealing formula on his body also had its own specific attribute.
If Li Yao could refine chakra with the same attribute as that in the sealing formula, he might be able to bypass the seal's suppression without being noticed.
"But... how do I refine chakra with that sealing attribute?"
Li Yao pondered. In his past life, there had been a theory among Naruto fans: theoretically, anyone could master all seven chakra natures.
It wasn't that if chakra paper revealed someone's element as Wind, they'd be unable to ever use Fire-nature chakra to perform Fire Release jutsu.
Chakra nature could, in fact, be developed over time.
In other words, every ninja's chakra inherently contains the seven basic natures: Water, Fire, Earth, Wind, Lightning, Yin, and Yang.
It's just that personal aptitude determines what nature one excels at. That's why chakra paper only reveals dominant attributes.
After all, just having an affinity for a certain chakra doesn't mean one can easily cast jutsu of that type.
Take Naruto, for example—his chakra had a Wind nature.
But his Wind Release: Rasenshuriken only came after long training, refining that nature into a thinner, sharper version and integrating it into the Rasengan.
So merely having the right chakra attribute isn't enough.
One must refine and condense it into usable, powerful chakra.
Just like how we know combining Fire, Earth, and Wind chakra creates Dust Release—a powerful Kekkei Tōta—
Yet no one else has ever been able to replicate it.
Even with the Third Tsuchikage himself teaching it, no one could learn it.
This proves that having the required chakra types is one thing—being able to develop and refine them into a new form is entirely another.
It's like giving two people the same materials—only a master blacksmith can forge a blade sharp enough to cut a falling hair.
Yes, refining chakra attributes is hard.
But it does at least prove that, theoretically, any ninja with chakra can refine any of the known attributes.
So Li Yao had the basic qualifications to refine the sealing formula's chakra attribute.
And compared to the rest of the ninja world—
He, with his soul fully integrated into his chakra and absolute control and perception of it, had a major advantage.
Just like now—he could clearly sense the differences in fluctuation between his normal chakra and that of the sealing formula.
All he had to do was manipulate his chakra to mimic the attribute in the sealing jutsu.
Without knowing the exact hand seals or formation of the seal, this was a clumsy but uniquely viable solution—one only Li Yao could try.
Thus, in his vegetative state, unable to mobilize chakra and paralyzed like a plant, Li Yao began subtly "tapping and shaping" his own chakra to shift its nature toward that of the seal's.
The next morning—
Hokage's Office.
Bang!
Danzo pushed the door open and walked in.
"Hiruzen, you called for me," Danzo said, a glint of expectation in his eyes.
"Mm." The Third looked at him briefly, then turned to his secretary. "Huimei, leave us."
Some matters were best kept secret. Even for his trusted secretary Chiba Huimei, less knowledge was better.
"You've decided, Hiruzen?"
As soon as Huimei left, Danzo asked eagerly.
"Yes. I approve the formation of the Root division." The Third nodded. But before Danzo could celebrate, his gaze sharpened as he stared him down. "But Root must be under ANBU command. It will function only as a special squad within ANBU. You will have no autonomous authority."
"Fine. No problem," Danzo agreed without hesitation. To him, as long as Root was created and he commanded it, it didn't matter if there was no official autonomy—it wouldn't affect his control.
Besides… seeing the stern look in the Third's eyes, Danzo smiled subtly. They had been old comrades for years—he knew Hiruzen too well.
As long as the Uchiha existed, there was no way anyone but him would ever be entrusted with Root.
Because Hiruzen wouldn't trust anyone else.
