Chapter 45 - Little Lu

After the tournament ended, Kai had fully recovered. In a medium-sized wooden room, a bed sat by the window, with a round table and a single chair nearby, and a sofa not far off. Kai sat on the bed, his gaze drifting out the window at the scenery beyond.

At that moment, Eugene walked in and took a seat in the chair beside the bed, speaking up:

"How are you feeling, buddy? Fully recovered yet?"

Kai, still staring out the window, finally turned to face Eugene and said,

"My body's fine… but we didn't get the prize money… for crying out loud."

Eugene, sitting nearby, gave a faint smile and said,

"You're still worrying about the prize money… or were you really doing it for me? Feegor told me everything. While I was recovering, you were fighting for me… Kai, I think… I'm starting to fall for you."

Kai froze for a moment, then quickly replied,

"Are you messing with me, Eugene?"

Eugene suppressed a laugh and said,

"Haha… I knew you'd figure it out. Teasing you is so much fun! No wonder that girl with glasses always likes to tease you—because it's this much fun."

Kai sighed, sitting back on the bed, and muttered in a comically sad tone,

"So… I'm just the one being teased, huh?" before pressing his face against the window.

He then turned back to Eugene, his expression returning to normal, and said,

"Eugene… you didn't actually lose because of that gust of wind, did you? I know… you lost because you were drunk, didn't you?"

Eugene turned away with a small smile,

"Heh… how did you know? So that's why… it's because of those eyes, isn't it?"

Having fully recovered, Kai got up from the bed and walked ahead of Eugene, who was still seated, saying,

"Let's go. We're going to find Ruby and the others."

The two of them left the room, passing through the building that resembled a medical recovery ward, and boarded a public bus heading back to the caretakers' base.

After the bus dropped them off, they walked into a base resembling a hotel. Before entering fully, they encountered Anthea, who had been waiting. She said,

"I've been expecting you. Follow me—Ren wants to talk to both of you."

Anthea led them to a room and opened the door, revealing Ren, Luminous, and Lu sitting inside.

Kai spoke up, "What's going on here? Ren… and who's this girl? And that little white cat?"

Ren replied, "Try using The Vision Eye."

When Kai did, he immediately understood who had come and why. He said,

"So that's it. Starting today, you'll teach me to use The Vision Eye, Luminous. And the little cat over there… that's Ruby's sister, just sitting quietly because she's Anthea's student."

Ren, smiling widely, stood and said,

"Exactly! Your eyes are incredible—they pick up details quickly, so I won't even need to explain much."

Kai replied,

"They're not that amazing. There are limits. I can sense feelings, predict events, and pinpoint locations—nothing more."

Luminous spoke calmly,

"It's not just that. The Vision Eye has more potential, but you don't understand it yet. That's why I'm here—to teach you how to use it properly."

The white-haired girl with cat ears and a tail, red eyes, a white T-shirt, black skirt, and black shoes spoke,

"So this is my big brother, the one Ruby worries about during travels. And you didn't even bring me any snacks… leaving Ruby behind too. Naughty!"

Kai froze, then gave a small, comical smile, thinking,

"So we're being scolded by a kid, huh…"

Lu said,

"You don't even know who I am… guess, guess!"

Kai replied,

"And who are you supposed to be? How am I supposed to know, little one?"

Lu crossed her arms dramatically in a funny way and said,

"I am the white cat of the caretakers—Lu!"

Kai turned pale in a comical way and waved his hands in the air,

"Really… really… I'm arguing with a kid right now. And that name… Lu, huh? Oh, I see, Ruby must have named you."

Lu covered her mouth with both hands, pretending to choke on her laughter,

"Ah… what is this?! Lu's Heavenly Eye can't see a thing!"

Kai chuckled, glancing at Anthea standing calmly, and muttered softly,

"Haha… just like back then with Anthea. That little cat was hilarious."

Lu added,

"No snacks? Then Lu won't use her powers to help!"

She tugged lightly at Kai's shirt, looking at him with pleading eyes, speaking in a slightly sad voice,

"Big brother, take Lu to buy some snacks."

Unable to resist her innocent charm, Kai said inside the room,

"Ren, I'm going out for a bit. I want to explore the city."

Ren, still at the desk talking with Luminous and Anthea, turned to him and replied,

"Go ahead, my friend."

"Come on, Eugene. Let's go take a walk around the city—get some rest," Kai said.

Eugene replied,

"Playing parent and child, huh? Fine, let's do that, buddy."

And so the three of them—Lu, Eugene, and Kai—walked out of the room together.
