Living on his own, are you kidding him? Why would he struggle like that? At home, he had people to cook, clean, and work for him. Why will he go and live alone where no one will be there to clean after him? He didn't want to live like that.
"Alright, I will use the beach house instead of hotels from now on. There is no need to move out," Liam nonchalantly tried to change the topic.
Since hotel bills were the reason his mother was against him, he will eliminate it. Bringing a girl back to a beach house he owned also has some style to it.
"Heh, you want to have the cake and eat it too as well. You think you are the only smart one here, eh? Brat, you will be moving out today. It is high time you learned to be independent. Also, we enjoyed some peace when you were at college. Ever since you came back, we lost it. We would like to have our peace back," his father mercilessly shot him down.
"Mom!"
"Tch, don't be a big baby, Liam. You are moving out today. It wasn't your father's decision. It was mine," his mother ruthlessly poured cold water on him.
"Mom, I will miss you. Those four years in college was already like hell. I missed you so much during that time," Liam tried to be sentimental.
"Then you should have come back home for breaks. Weren't you enjoying college life then?" his mother ruthlessly exposed his hypocrisy.
"Don't bother, it is decided," his father sighed. "As for your plan to start new programs, do that boldly. If you show good results, I will convince the board for additional funding for your channel during the next quarterly board meeting."
That didn't leave him happy at all.
Liam still didn't feel that the situation was real when he reached the office an hour later. He didn't expect that he would suddenly be kicked out of his home and asked to live alone. This came so out of the left field that it completely blindsided him.
The enthusiastic mood with which he began his day was completely gone. Right now, he was so confused that he wasn't sure what to say. While it wasn't as if he hadn't lived alone, he had thought such life was over after he moved to Starlight city. But, it seems his parents seemed to disagree.
After slacking off yesterday, he had quite a large pile of files to review today. So, Liam was immersed in work for half the day, before he cleared the desk before him.
Damn it! He needs to find someone to do the paperwork for him. The amount of things he had to sign off on was just ridiculous. Unfortunately, he didn't like sharing power. So, he could only slog through it alone.
It was fine now, but once the channel grew, he will not be able to operate in this manner. It would be better to find someone early and make sure they are under his thumb. As Liam thought about the future, he was interrupted by Christine.
Christine's efficiency was quite fast. After he assigned work yesterday, she quickly made a project proposal and came to see him. He didn't expect her to be this enthusiastic about this program.
Anyway, it was good for him.
Analyzing the project proposal, he found it quite alright. But the characters of the two girls who will be gossiping was quite bland. It was fine on paper. But, it wouldn't hold up when aired.
"The proposal is fine. Just tweak the characters of the two girls a bit. Add some background depth and interesting things about them. Make their characters contrasting. Think of the most interesting pair of ladies you have seen chatting and apply their characters to these girls. Kind of like a friendship between cheerleader and a nerd. If one is cute, make the other one hot. You get what I mean, right?" Liam asked.
"I understand. Kind of like an unlikely duo ending up as friends. Fleshing out their character a bit by adding quirks and interests to each one," Christine replied.
"Exactly. Also, don't make them just discuss gossip. Try to make them like real friends. They could also gossip about boys and stuff in between segments," Liam added.
"I understand, Mr. Liam."
"In that case, this is good to go. Go to the finance department and get the funds. I want the pilot to premiere next Friday."
"I will get it done Mr. Liam," Christine assured and hurried away.
Watching Christine leave in a hurry, Liam chuckled inwardly. Thinking about tasks assigned, there was one he assigned Rosa as well, right? Liam almost called Rosa over, but looked at the empty table in front of him and changed his mind.
Dropping by Rosa's desk, he asked her to accompany him and quickly came to the reception to wait for her. Bella looked to be pursuing her magazine unaware of his presence. Liam gently cleared the throat causing her to jump a bit.
Seeing her flustered, Liam assured her that he wasn't angry and chatted her up for a few minutes until Rosa arrived at the reception. Bidding goodbye to Bella, Liam hopped into the car and drove away from the office with Rosa in tow.
"So, did you finish the task I assigned you yesterday?" Liam asked casually as he drove to a burger joint he frequented.
"I have the report on my desk. I will give it to you later. I was a bit preoccupied with other work and failed to put it on your desk," Rosa replied.
"No worries, I just need the results. What are the results? What are most people interested in?" Liam asked curiously.
"Hmmm, there wasn't a clear top one. There were a bunch of things that were on everyone's list. If I know the purpose of the survey, I can try to summarize it better for you," Rosa replied as they drove into the burger joint.
"It is simple, I want to start some new programs targeting the interests of young people. So, I took the group in our office as a sample and tried to see what came out on top. Later, I will design a program centered around that interest and see if it does well," Liam admitted his reasons casually.
"In that case, you better check the report. I might miss out on something," Rosa quickly backtracked.
Liam shot a bemused smile and shook his head. He understood Rosa's reluctance to influence such major decisions. However, he disagreed with her assessment. Right now, all MusixZ was doing was playing songs on repeat. Any variety would be fine. As for whether a program would take off, no one knows until the pilot airs. That's why the turnover rate of projects in the TV industry was far higher than the film industry.
Parking his car, he entered the burger joint with Rosa. After finding a table and placing their orders, Liam spoke.
"Since you don't want to influence my decision, let's put it aside. Tell me what you think the youth today are interested in?"
"Hmmm, if you ask me it is parties and stuff, right. The party culture is picking up. Also, we young women love shopping in general as well."
The moment Rosa said party culture was picking up, a light flashed in Liam's mind. But, he controlled his impulse and decided to finish the conversation.
"Don't just speak for young women, think neutrally. What interests do both young boys and girls have?"
"Well, after parties, I think both young boys and girls like roadtrips. I think apart from that, there aren't many common things. Boys like sports and stuff. We girls go for beauty and fashion. None of them sound like a reliable idea for a program," Rosa shook her head.
"Why not? I think a program about road trip will be very interesting to watch," Liam said stroking his chin.
"Then, wouldn't it be better to watch a cross country rally?" Rosa snarked. "At least the cars will be faster there."
"Ah, who told we will be telecasting their travel? No, no, that's simple thinking. Think differently. When you go on a road trip what do you remember the most after the trip?" Liam said leaning back.
By then, the burgers they ordered had arrived and both of them paused their conversation to wolf down their burgers. Washing the burgers with the cola, they quickly finished the meal and stepped outside.
Liam lit up a cigarette, while leaning on the car and exhaled a large puff.
"I haven't gone on a road trip. But, I have gone on vacations. It's a bit similar. From what I remember, it's those beautiful sceneries, some memorable moments, and the excitement are what we recall after the trip."
"Exactly," Liam said, letting out a puff of smoke. "No one remembers the long arduous journeys. They remember those fun moments, quiet moments, those picturesque sceneries, arguments, and pranks. You know what they all have in common?"
"What?"
"Strong emotions," Liam smirked. "It's those emotions that make those moments memorable. So, I say we bring them the emotions and leave out the rest."
"How do you plan to do it?"
