Olivia's point of view
The last thing I wanted to do was stay away from Gabriel, but I was invited by my mother to have dinner with them at their house and I couldn't refuse it. Gabriel's eyes have a desire to speak with my son, but I've prevented him from doing that since we arrived. I don't want them to form a bond that will be hard to break, especially since they are related. So I brought Daniel with me as soon as he returned yesterday, even though he has a meeting to attend today.
"Are you guys okay?" My mother asked.
I turned to her in confusion, "Yes. Why do you ask?"
"Well, you're not talking to your brother, Olivia. We call this dinner so you can meet Gabriel more, especially since you didn't have a good meeting at my engagement party."
I smiled forcedly, "Gabriel is nice. Although he's a bit rude to my boyfriend at your engagement party, I already forgive him."
"In that case, we would like to take Gavin with us."
"Where, Mom?" I questioned.
"Franklin and I decided to have a short vacation before getting married. I also know you need a break from all the work you've done for five years, so we're taking him with us. What do you think?" She inquired excitedly.
I glanced at Gabriel who was busy eating comfortably. I'm sensing that he was behind this plan, and I'm not going to satisfy his wish.
"I appreciate it, Mom. But you don't have to do that. I managed to take care of my son for five years, so there's no need for you to take care of him."
"Okay, but if you ever change your mind? You can tell me," she said.
I nodded, "Yes, Mom."
Silence fell again and it was uncomfortable. I simply looked around and was convinced that my decisions were for the better, especially since my mother was happy with Franklin's company. Meanwhile, I twitched in my seat when Daniel held my hand. I turned to him and smiled, he was comforting me as if he knew I was uncomfortable.
But the silence was soon interrupted by unknown visitors.
"Hello, my soon-to-be family!" A young lady cheerfully greeted me.
She was wearing a pink dress paired with a pink cardigan, her hair was tied up and her simple yet elegant make-up was eye-catching. She kissed Franklin on the cheek before sitting next to Gabriel, trying to kiss him when he moved away.
I chuckled faintly, but she heard it and looked at me with her raised eyebrow. "I believe you're Olivia."
"Yes," I replied.
She smiled sweetly, "Nice meeting you, my soon-to-be sister-in-law."
"Sister-in-law?"
She wrapped her arms around Gabriel's arm and answered, "Yes. Gabriel and I are engaged. Right, my love?"
"Is that so?" I turned to Gabriel before averting my eyes. I don't know why I suddenly felt annoyed when that woman introduced herself as his fiancée.
"We're not. Dad, why did you invite this woman? She's not part of the family," Gabriel complained.
"She is, Gabriel. She just said you two are engaged," I interfered. "Which means, she's going to be part of our twisted family very soon." I bite on the steak roughly before chewing it.
"Olivia was right, Gabriel. Catherine will be your wife soon, so I invited her here."
Gabriel rose before removing the towel from his neck and threw it on his plate, "Are you trying to embarrass me, Dad? I'm not marrying Catherine."
"Gabriel! Show some respect! We're in the middle of our feast and you're in front of your mother!" He shouted.
Gabriel showed his dominance over his father. He's opposing his desire badly.
"She's not my mother!"
I widened with his response. I'm not expecting Gabriel to respond like that, and the way he disrespected my mother hurt me. But my mother was chill like he used to be at this event.
I stood up to interfere with their father-son quarrel. I cleared my throat and said, "Excuse me? You don't have the right to disrespect my mother like that, Gabriel. If you don't like my mom, just tell me. I'm taking her away from this messy family."
"Olivia, sit down."
"No, Mom. I'm not letting this man disrespect you like that because I have never in my life done it to you!" I yelled.
Gabriel looked away before taking a deep breath, "I'm sorry."
I was backfired with his answer. That's not what I'm expecting to hear. I'm expecting him to get mad for yelling at him. I want him to get mad at me. I wanted him to show his true colors, but his soft expression hit me…
"I already lost my appetite," Gabriel muttered before leaving.
"Gabriel! We're not done talking," Mr. Harris followed his son, and my mother did the same.
I faced Daniel and said, "Can you take Gavin outside? There's a playground in the garden."
Daniel nodded, "Sure."
He takes my son and invites him to go to the garden, leaving me and Catherine alone. I sat back, sighed deeply, and leaned on my seat when she suddenly spoke.
"I know you," she murmured.
I furrowed, "I beg your pardon?"
"You are the girl Gabriel was trying to find five years ago. I was so complacent he wouldn't find you, but the world was so small. You and he are going to be step-siblings soon, but there's something that intrigues me…" she smirked.
"What do you mean?"
"Are you the girl he mentioned that he got pregnant?" She questioned.
I was stunned by her unexpected question, but didn't show it. I laughed, "What makes you think that?"
"Because you have bad vibes, Olivia. Gabriel is mine and one mistake changed it all. If I found out you were the one he was telling me about, and your son is his. I'm making sure you will disappear from his life," she threatened me.
My face turned serious, and I responded to her threat, "Should I remind you of our difference? I got pregnant and took care of my son while you got rid of yours. Don't you dare threaten me because I'm willing to fight you, Catherine."
"I already did my assignment before going to this war, and you picked the wrong enemy to threaten," I added.
I rose from my seat and walked towards the door, but stopped halfway through. "I don't care if you manage to dig my identity, but I'm holding the strongest card that I can use against you. So, watch your words because you might regret it."
