Elodie just remained sitting on the bed watching as a nurse was wrapping up her bleeding wrist with cotton and gauze. This woman was in a short and tight white dress that reached above her knees. A dress that Elodie would wear as an undergarment, hidden by the layers of her skirts, back in her realm.
The woman also wore some sort of tiny cap above her flame hair and had striking red painted lips. A stern look that Elodie found herself evading after she got scolded for minutes for brazenly pulling off the cannula.
Even though she couldn't understand most of the words that she used, Elodie came to the conclusion that this woman was an assistant to a physician. The physician left a moment ago for an emergency after noting down some things on paper.
He was unnerved by her as well and scolded her for removing the cannula. At first, she didn't understand what that word meant, but as they kept repeating it, she figured it out. The thing that was now placed aside on a tray by the physician's assistance was called a cannula, and she wasn't supposed to remove it because, according to the two of them, she could lose her life from blood loss.
"Please refrain from taking a bath for a while, or if you do need to take a shower…make sure you cover your head with something. The last thing you want is to drench your fresh wound." The nurse said to her. Elodie raised her hand and gently touched the bandage around her forehead.
And when she didn't reply, the nurse glared at her to emphasize the danger it might put her in if she went against the instructions. "Do you understand, miss?" Left with no choice, she nodded. The nurse watched her for a short while before sighing.
"Are you truly out of your mind, like they say, or are you just another con artist? Because you are too good at this. I'm jealous of you." She started to clean up the space, keeping all the blood-stained stuff, used syringes, and other used medicine bottles in a plastic bag.
Elodie just stared at her, watching her every action closely. Wondering why anyone would be jealous of her. She was jealous of the lady in a white dress. Because the woman didn't have to worry about her life. While she was locked up by the man she was deeply terrified of. She was a runaway princess with no direction in life.
"You get to live under the same roof as Mr. Vale. It's literally the dream of every girl in IronVille. Congrats, girl, but do share the tips just in case."
The nurse went on blabbering the nonsensical things that Elodie couldn't follow, so she just sat there listening and watching her. "Seriously? You are gatekeeping the good stuff? Fine, I don't blame you. Have fun while it still lasts." The nurse chuckled and carried the tray, ready to leave with an amused look on her face.
Before she could leave, another man with a woman entered the room. "How is it going, nurse? Is she alright?" Asked the man that Elodie vaguely recalled from last night.
"Oh, rest assured. I'll be visiting regularly to check on her and change her bandage. The doctor has already briefed Mr. Vale about her condition. Just keep an eye on her. She seemed to be zoning out a lot. I wonder what happened to her."
The man smiled at the nurse, "We will take good care of her. Thank you for your hard work." He quickly dismissed the nurse before she could pry further into what was truly going on. She could be a paparazzi undercover and was just looking to tarnish his boss's reputation even more than it already was.
The nurse got the hint and smiled back. She gave a last glance at Elodie, who was now facing her feet, with her long golden hair covering her side profile like a curtain. The nurse thought the woman was too beautiful to be true. An ethereal beauty that she had only imagined how angels were like in her dreams. She then left without saying another word.
The man cleared his throat and moved closer to the bed where Elodie sat with her legs pulled over to her chest. "I'm Dave Williams, from MV company. And this is Lena, she is going to be around with you for the entirety of your stay here. If you need anything, you will go to her." Dave explained with a calm voice.
Knowing very well what his boss and he were doing was horrendous. But Elodie didn't raise her head to acknowledge him and just remained facing her feet.
Keeping a person locked up against their wishes wasn't in Dave's bingo card, but they were left with no choice. This beautiful mad woman cannot leave this house until his boss says otherwise. And that was final.
"I'll leave the two of you to get accustomed to each other." Dave sighed when the woman didn't react to her. He then left the room as well.
Lena watched the woman with a tiny smile. "It's okay, Hazel. You don't have to shy away from me." Elodie felt the mattress dipping beside her and lifted her head to catch the woman staring at her with a warm smile.
For some reason, it made the tight knot on her chest lessen for a bit. When she didn't reply, Lena reached for her head, which made Elodie flinch and pull her hand away before Lena could touch it.
"I'm sorry." Lena quickly uttered and moved an inch away from her. Giving her the space that she needed. After a dreadful silence between them, Lena's face lit with new determination. "Are you hungry, Hazel?" This made Hazel rub her stomach. She was famished and wondered how this woman knew. She bit her lower lip and nodded slowly at her.
Lena stood up and smoothed her apron on top of her yellow summer dress. "Great. I made chicken soup and baked fresh bread. Come with me. Let's have breakfast together. I could eat a whole cow." She watched Elodie with expectant eyes. Elodie's mind was racing with questions.
Was this woman placed to keep a close eye on her? Elodie thought of escaping this place once, but then she didn't know anything about this world yet and had nowhere to go. So she thought befriending her enemy was now her only choice.
With that in her mind, she pushed herself down. Her feet connected with the cold floor, which made her body shiver. She couldn't help but take notice of how cold this world was. Back at DorkVille, it was warm even on rainy days. Elodie followed silently behind the woman.
