Chapter 9 - Return

The policeman grabbed my wrists and forced them behind my back, then pushed me into the car, the cuffs cold on my hands.

"You're arrested for the attempted murder of one Miss. Maya."

I was like,

"What? Attempted murder of Maya? No, I didn't do anything to her. I didn't do anything to her."

I wanted to say more, but the policeman said,

"Shut up. We'll talk in the police station."

Throughout the Journey there,I thought about how things would have been back in the pack house with Andrew.

''Living out here with humans,is something else.''

I said to myself....

When we got there, he sat me down inside the interrogation room. It was empty except for a table,

Two chairs facing each other with a CCTV camera blinking red in the corner.

The policeman leaned back in his chair, a pen tapping against his notebook.

"What really happened between you and Maya?"

he asked.

I swallowed, looking down at my cuffed hands before lifting my head again.

"Okay… Maya was actually the first person I talked to when I started work two days ago. She was really friendly to me."

I paused, letting out a shaky breath.

"Then I had a problem with my boss. My boss told me to pour coffee on myself."

The policeman raised an eyebrow, his pen stilling.

"She laughed,"

I continued quickly,

"and then my boss told her to pour coffee on herself. She became angry."

The officer leaned forward a little, resting his elbows on the table.

"While I was going home, she followed me. She called me and told me she was going to deal with me, that she was going to make me pay. That was it."

I glanced up at him, trying to read his face, but he gave nothing away.

"She tried to attack me. I just kind of pushed her aside and walked away. I had somewhere important to be."

My throat was dry, and I licked my lips before finishing.

"And I don't know… she actually fell that night. It was never my intention."

For a moment the room went quiet. I shifted in my seat, the cuffs clinking softly.

"And if I'm being sincere here,"

I added, locking eyes with him,

"I actually think she's doing this on purpose."

The policeman tapped his pen once against the table, then stood.

"Okay," he said simply, and walked out, leaving me with the unblinking red light of the camera.

While I was still stuck in the interrogation room,

Back at the office Ray was sitting there, calm and relaxed, sipping his wine like he didn't have a care in the world.

Then the door opened.

"Hey, babe," a girl said softly.

It was Ella. Oh my God. She was beautiful,on fire, honestly.

But Ray didn't even look at her like she was a woman. His face darkened immediately.

"What are you doing here?"

he asked, his tone low and sharp.

Ella stepped closer, smiling.

"I'm here for you, babe. I just got back and I came to surprise you with a gift.

She set the box she was carrying on his desk.

Ray shoved it off. The box hit the floor with a dull thud.

"Oh, babe, why would you do that?

she gasped.

"Don't call me babe. I'm Ray. Just Ray. And get out of here."

Her smile faltered. "You hate me that much now?"

"Yes."

His eyes widened, voice fierce.

"Yes, I hate you that much now. I don't want you. So get the fuck out."

Before she could reply, he grabbed his car keys and stormed out, slamming the glass door so hard it rattled.

Thank God that door was strong, because the way he hit it, I was sure it should've cracked.

He got Into his car. On his way to the police station.

To get me.

####

''I don't understand why you would arrest someone with no proper evidence. Attempted murder of Maya? What could even be my motive for that?''

A voice drifted from outside the interrogation room. It was Ray.

I felt my face heat...yeah, I blushed. I caught myself moving closer, pressing my ear to the door to try and hear.

I could barely hear them...

But I tried.

"You know the coffee thing that happened? It's just that we're dealing with a more serious case,

Personally you should be arrested for making employees pour coffee on themselves is wrong.''

I bet Ray was already calling me a bitch in his heart.

''Back to the main case, the two girls are saying two different things.Maya is claiming Helena tried to kill her, this is very serious...''

My stomach dropped.

"We're going back to the location to check for CCTV,"

the officer continued.

"The are still in the crime sense,to look for evidence."

Ray said

"She's my assistant and I don't want her to sleep there tonight. I have to get her out."

The policeman answered,

"They're already out there, sir. But the CCTV cameras around were damaged. If we don't find any evidence that says she's innocent, you won't be able to bail her for the next Four days..."

Damaged. I froze. Damaged? No...no, this can't be.

My breath hiccupped. If they don't find footage and I'm locked up, what then?

Full moon was in Four days?

If I stayed here,

everyone would discover that wolves exist. My chest tightened at the thought. If they found out… I couldn't even imagine.

If it comes to that,I will have to end it all,I rather die than exposing the existence of werewolves.

"Oh God,"

I whispered against the door.

"If you really exist, please...take me away from this trouble."

I pressed my forehead to the door and tried to steady my breathing, the cuffs cold against my wrists,

''The Police will not be dedicated to prove my innocence,I won't leave my fate in their hands.

I needed someone who would help me prove my innocence.....''
