"If you keep looking up like that," Haejin said, coming up beside her, "your neck is going to file a formal complaint."
She lowered her gaze. She had not realized she was still looking at the ceiling.
"It's very tall," she said.
"It is."
"The brief didn't say it was this tall."
"The brief said the ceiling clearance was eighteen meters."
She looked at him.
"Did you picture eighteen meters?" he said.
She had not pictured eighteen meters.
He almost smiled, gave her back one more brief pat the way you would with someone who had just walked into a wall they hadn't seen, and moved off toward the stage to join the others.
She stood there for one more second.
The crew were already moving across it, running cables, positioning monitors, doing what crews did in the focused quiet of people who had a checklist and were working through it, completely accustomed to the space because they had been setting it up for hours before anyone else arrived.
