Buzz—
The phone vibrated.
The phone vibrated once, then fell silent again.
At this moment, John had just slammed a man to the ground, violently twisted his wrist, and then fired his glock 19 into the man's jaw.
Bang!
Blood splattered, and the corpse twitched once before becoming still.
This was the 13th assassin John had taken down.
He didn't even know how many more were hidden in this building, but it didn't matter.
His bullets were almost depleted; only one magazine remained.
He pressed the release button, flung out the empty magazine, then pulled out the last one and inserted it back into the magazine well.
Click!
He pressed the release button, resetting the trigger.
Then he pulled back the slide, checked the round in the chamber, and released it.
Clack!
A crisp sound echoed in the hallway.
It was empty all around, with bodies and bloodstains on the floor, leaving only John, slightly crouched and panting.
Buzz—
The phone in his pocket vibrated again, emitting a faint sound. This time, John pulled it out.
Looking at the name displayed on the phone, John's expression relaxed considerably.
He pressed the answer button, "You brat, you still have time to call me? Is the mission in Korea finished?"
Through the half-screen visible by his ear, the contact name 'ZHANG' was visible. It was Zhang Jie calling, and from the looks of it, John was very familiar with Zhang Jie's itinerary.
"Ho ho, my dear mentor, your information seems quite outdated. The mission in Korea was completed two days ago."
Zhang Jie's teasing voice came from the other end of the line, "You seem very busy lately; Hades is almost going to lose weight missing you."
"If I go back and find Hades has lost even a pound, you'll be in trouble," John retorted with a direct threat.
"Alright, alright, so my life isn't as valuable as your dog, is it?"
"Okay, enough of that. Tell me, my dear mentor, what are you up to?" Zhang Jie asked, adjusting his mouth while looking at the buildings below through a high-powered scope.
John subconsciously glanced down the hallway, "I'm busy."
"Ho ho, what a coincidence, so am I…"
Zhang Jie continuously searched for the location of another sniper among the various buildings. Logically, the positions of two snipers shouldn't be too far apart, as they should complement each other, so it shouldn't be hard to find.
But Zhang Jie searched for a long time and couldn't find where the other sniper was hiding.
The reason he knew this sniper was there was because he had just seen him and followed him all the way.
However, the hiding place of the other sniper was completely unknown. But the immediate priority wasn't to deal with the people below, but to eliminate the other sniper, as that was the most critical threat.
He believed that John inside the building could hold out a little longer; the call was only to confirm John's current status. As of now, his condition seemed good.
"You too? You're not making your Chinese dishes again, are you?" When not on a mission, John found it hard to imagine what Zhang Jie would be busy with, other than cooking.
In fact, during those 5 months of special training, the one thing John was always very satisfied with Zhang Jie was his excellent Chinese cooking. His favorite dishes were Mapo Tofu and spicy and sour shredded potatoes.
"I don't have time to cook right now, but I did spot a little mouse."
As he spoke, Zhang Jie had already found the other sniper hiding on the opposite rooftop. His current position wasn't actually aligned with the sniper's position.
He was on the other side, with his view blocked, which was why he hadn't seen Zhang Jie take down his colleague.
So, after searching for a while, Zhang Jie finally spotted the gun barrel peeking out from the corner of the rooftop.
Without a word, Zhang Jie shifted his gaze, then, using the other party's perspective, adjusted his scope to look at where he was aiming.
The target was the 7th floor of the building below.
"By the way, are you on the 7th floor right now?" Zhang Jie asked directly.
"7th floor?"
The sudden question left John a bit confused, but he looked up and indeed saw '7F' written at the end of the corridor.
Immediately, John reacted and suddenly darted into an adjacent office. The next second—
Bang!
Glass shattered!
Cold sweat instantly dripped. He hadn't realized there was a sniper aiming at him from afar, and Zhang Jie actually knew he was on the 7th floor.
"How did you get here?"
Zhang Jie's arrival suddenly made John nervous. He knew the skill level of this rookie too well. He was very touched that Zhang Jie came to save him, but charging into this whirlpool alone was not a wise choice.
At least not right now.
He didn't know how much Zhang Jie had grown, but from the information he had gathered, Zhang Jie's progress was far greater than when he started.
At least compared to his state at Blackthorn Castle, there was significant improvement.
"Alright, no more idle talk. I'll provide cover for you; try to find a way to leave. Otherwise, more and more assassins will gather here."
Zhang Jie directly warned him. Lingering in this place was not a wise choice. After all, this was a European bounty, and the longer John stayed in one place, the more disadvantageous it would be for him.
John didn't reply, just silently hung up the phone.
His apprentice had traveled thousands of miles to Germany to support him, saving him at a critical moment. This deeply moved him, a scene that felt eerily familiar.
"Don't worry, I won't let that situation happen again!"
After John whispered this, his eyes sharpened. Helen was gone, Daisy was gone, that annoying guy was gone, but it didn't matter. He still had his good friends, he still had his good apprentice.
Perhaps this was another chance at rebirth, a gift from heaven, just as Vigo had said, he thought assassins had no emotions.
But in reality, assassins' emotions were more swift and subtle than anyone else's.
Then, John got up. There was a sniper on the other side of the wall. He couldn't act rashly, so he moved directly along the corner of the wall.
He arrived at the door on the other side, but if he could think of this, the sniper naturally could too.
His next move was to confuse the sniper and create an opportunity for Zhang Jie.
He also knew very well that he only had one chance to make a mistake. The sniper could make countless mistakes, but he couldn't.
The two offices were connected. Although separated by a wall, infrared displays could show what he was doing.
However, unfortunately, since it was evening, the sun's rays were concentrated on this side, making it impossible for infrared detection to penetrate the reflective glass and see inside.
With the limited equipment a sniper carries, it was impossible to have a multi-spectral instrument. So, John was betting on this.
Meanwhile, on the other side, Zhang Jie also activated his infrared vision device, but he was aiming in the sniper's direction.
"Come on, baby, let me treat you to a peanut."
