Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: The Crab Burger

Chapter 24: The Crab Burger

In 2002, the notorious Tea Bag, consumed by despair, ended his own life in Redhaven Prison.

Or so the official reports said. The cause of death was marked as suicide.

The irony wasn't lost on anyone.

Tea Bag's death didn't spark grief — if anything, it brought relief. Many inmates, who had lived in constant fear of his cruelty, secretly celebrated. For them, his death meant safety — finally, their backs were secure.

Even the guards felt lighter. One less headache. One less rabid dog to control. Most of the riots and conflicts in Redhaven traced back to him anyway. With Tea Bag gone, the tension that had gripped the prison eased at last. The gangs, once at each other's throats, slipped into an uneasy calm.

Several Years Later

Gordon Ramsay, the Michelin-starred chef known for his fiery critiques, arrived in Italy to film a new program. This time, his destination was far from his usual fine-dining spots.

Led by a local guide, his crew drove through the outskirts of Palermo, heading toward one of Italy's most infamous strongholds: Redhaven Prison.

The prison was wrapped in high-voltage fences, guarded day and night. But within its iron walls was something that had drawn Ramsay across continents — a restaurant run entirely by inmates. The chefs and waiters were prisoners, serving dishes as part of their rehabilitation.

Only Ramsay and one cameraman were allowed inside after strict searches. A guard escorted them into the dining hall, where bulletproof doors sealed the entrance.

"This is definitely the most unique restaurant I've ever stepped into," Ramsay muttered, surveying the room. Cozy lighting, neat tables, and old prison photos decorated the walls. Knives and forks were blunt, specially designed to prevent violence. The strangeness of it all heightened his curiosity.

A sharply dressed waiter approached with menus. Ramsay skimmed through. Mostly classic Italian fare, nothing new. But one item at the top caught his eye:

Crab Burger.

A burger, as the restaurant's signature dish? That was unusual enough to intrigue him.

"Alright then. Parma ham, risotto, squid ink pasta, Milanese veal, dessert… and of course, the crab burger," Ramsay ordered.

The waiter noted everything and left.

The first dishes arrived. Parma ham — unremarkable, nothing special. Ramsay kept his critique to himself.

Then came the squid ink pasta. One bite, and his face darkened.

"Overcooked, bland, and microwaved," he muttered under his breath, appalled. In Italy of all places, to reheat pasta like this was sacrilege. "Absolute garbage."

But he quickly caught himself. This wasn't one of his TV sets. He wasn't in a restaurant where his scathing words meant ratings. He was in Redhaven.

"Don't speak so loudly!" his cameraman whispered urgently, eyes darting toward the Restaurant Manager watching them from across the room.

The man smiled politely. "Mr. Ramsay, do our dishes suit your taste?"

Ramsay forced a wide grin. "Absolutely wonderful!" he exclaimed, giving a thumbs-up. "One of the best pastas I've ever had."

To sell the lie, he finished every last bite. And every dish after that. By the time the final plate arrived, his stomach was protesting.

Then the waiter placed it before him — the Crab Burger.

Ramsay cut into it reluctantly. He lifted a piece with his fork and took a bite.

And froze.

The flavor exploded in his mouth, unlike anything he had ever tasted. The patty was tender yet firm, infused with spices that harmonized perfectly, each bite sending waves of bliss across his palate. It was bold, refined, and utterly addictive.

For a man who had eaten in Michelin-starred kitchens across the world, this was transcendent.

The knife and fork clattered from his hands. Ramsay grabbed the burger with both palms and devoured it like a starving man, etiquette forgotten, eyes wide with joy.

"This… this is the best thing I've ever eaten," he gasped between bites.

At that moment, Gordon Ramsay wasn't a critic, or a celebrity chef, or a TV star. He was simply a man consumed by the sheer, unexplainable delight of food.
