Thursday afternoon, Maya was studying in their dorm room when Zoe burst through the door, face flushed with excitement.
"You won't believe what I just heard."
Maya looked up from her history textbook. "Should I be worried?"
"Not worried. Vindicated." Zoe dropped her bag, pulled out her phone. "I was in the bathroom near the student center. Madison and her cheer squad were in there, talking way too loud."
"About?"
"Her plans for tomorrow night's party. Specifically, her plans to destroy you and Ethan." Zoe's eyes gleamed. "And I recorded the whole thing."
Maya's stomach dropped. "You recorded her?"
"The acoustics in that bathroom are amazing. And they were practically shouting." Zoe sat on her bed. "Want to hear it?"
Part of Maya didn't want to know. But she needed to understand what she was up against.
"Play it."
Zoe hit play. Madison's voice came through clearly, talking to one of her squad members.
