Ava's eyes fluttered open slowly, her vision blurry at first as she stared up at an unfamiliar white ceiling before it slowly started to become familiar. For a few seconds, her brain was empty and blank, like it had been wiped clean. Then the memories of the previous night slammed into her chest so hard she sucked in a sharp breath.
Suddenly she remembered all the blood, the struggle, Damian collapsing and her own screams.
The operating room doors, she remembered him being wheeled through it.
She sat up abruptly, her heart racing all over again.
Clara had spent half the night convincing her to leave the hospital after Ava regained consciousness. Damian had been moved to another hospital, one with tighter security and it then ava finally decided to leave after the doctors had checked on her and the bruising on her neck.
The first thing she did when she arrived at the house was head straight to her room and straight into bathroom.
