Thankfully, when Ava woke up the next morning, she didn't have a nightmare.
But that didn't mean she woke up peacefully.
Her eyes snapped open, and she lay still on the bed, staring at the ceiling with slightly wide eyes as her chest rose and fell unevenly. Her face felt warm, almost flushed, and she could feel her heart beating faster than it should have.
For a few seconds, she didn't move, it took her a short while to process everything around her and realise she was back to her reality
She just lay there, listening to the silence of the room and trying to calm herself down.
Slowly, she pushed herself into a sitting position and ran her fingers through her hair, letting out a shaky breath she hadn't realized she was holding.
