Chapter 6 - Familia

"I'm not particularly familiar with this..." Shirou said somewhat embarrassedly.

"Really, you want to become an adventurer without even considering this." Mama Mia said disdainfully.

"Follow me."

Mama Mia walked to the counter and rummaged through it, quickly finding a thick, somewhat old booklet—"Orario Familia Encyclopedia."

Looking at the content on the cover, Shirou realized that he seemed to have naturally mastered the language and writing of this world.

"First, familias without even Lv.4 can be ignored, they're all garbage, not worth attention."

Mama Mia's first sentence directly classified over 90% of familias as garbage, leaving only a few options at the front.

"Currently, the strongest familia in the city is the Freya Familia. How should I put it, I have some face in the Freya Familia, I can recommend you there." Mama Mia said, flipping through the familia encyclopedia, the first page showing the Valkyrie emblem of the Freya Familia.

Freya, the goddess of beauty and love in Norse mythology, her familia is the pinnacle of the labyrinth city at this time, not only possessing multiple first-class adventurers above Lv.5, but also the city's strongest, the only Lv.7 powerhouse of Orario, Ottar the 'King'.

"However, I don't recommend you join the Freya Familia. "After much thought and careful consideration, Mama Mia finally concluded.

"Eh? Why?" Shirou asked.

"It's not suitable, the compatibility is too poor. The Freya Familia is full of lost and love-starved children, and you, you're neither lost nor love-starved." Mama Mia judged.

"Clearly, you're a determined and serious person, and not only not love-starved, but also the type to overflow with love for others." Mama Mia said seriously.

This description was a bit strange, almost like she's describing a playboy...

"So you're not suitable for the Freya Familia. If you go there, you'll probably break. No you WILL break for sure." Mama Mia interjected, "That's my judgment."

"Eh, is it that serious?"

"No, not you breaking, but the Freya Familia breaking... in short, it's not suitable." Mama Mia thought silently, "The Freya Familia's recruitment standard is 'the color of the soul.' Luckily, the goddess's current interest is 'purity,' not 'brilliance.'"

Flipping past the Freya Familia's emblem, the next was a jester mask emblem.

Loki Familia, the second strongest faction in the labyrinth city, possessing three Lv.6 first-class adventurers, and four Lv.5 adventurers, their combat power is second only to the Freya Familia, and they are more active in dungeon exploration than the Freya Familia.

"If you want to become an adventurer, the Loki Familia should be one of the best choices, but..." Mama Mia hesitated, "As for the Loki Familia, I can't recommend you. If you're interested, you can try on your own."

Then, Mama Mia introduced various familias to Emiya one by one.

"The Ishtar Familia... Eliminated. Although strong in combat, this one runs the pleasure quarter, best to stay away if you don't want to be a drained corpse by their captain Phryne Jamil the 'Man Killer'."

Naturally, Shirou was not interested in the pleasure quarter, and showing interest in this familia would probably get him killed by Mama Mia before the 'Man Killer'.

The Ganesha Familia has 11 Level 5 members, and their captain, Shakti Varma, is also a Level 5. In addition, the Ganesha Familia has numerous Level 3 and Level 4 members, making them the vanguard force against the Dark Faction.

In Orario, the Ganesha Familia has the function of city guards. Due to good relations with the guild, the usual defense, patrol, and order maintenance of Orario are handled by the Ganesha Familia.

"The Ganesha Familia seems like a good choice, and then there's... the Astraea Familia..." Shirou murmured.

The goddess of stars and justice, Astraea, he was somewhat interested in this familia.

"That familia is no longer here, they encountered an accident in the dungeon, the familia members were almost all wiped out, and the main deity left Orario." Mama Mia said in a low voice,"This encyclopedia is from three years ago."

"I see..." Shirou silently but reluctantly skipped over the Astraea Familia, but he still remembered the emblem of the Wings of Justice.

"Then, the Hephaestus Familia."

The main deity is the goddess of Forge and Fire, Hephaestus, who is proficient in forging techniques.

The Hephaestus Familia is a comprehensive familia that combines production, commerce, and adventure, mainly engaged in weapon and equipment manufacturing, and is the largest equipment producer and seller in the labyrinth city.

The leader is a Lv.5 first-class adventurer, Orario's top blacksmith, the One-Eyed Blacksmith, Tsubaki Collbrande.

"That's it boy, so which Familia do you want to join?" Mia asked.

"I don't know, but I don't plan to join any familia for now." Shirou made up his mind.

"Oh, why is that?"

"It's like I didn't get the felling of it about joining any of these. I'll think about it for some time, later if I still could not get the feeling, I'll just join Hephaestus Familia as I have a knack for swords."

"Is that so, because you're an excellent chef, so you're interested in blacksmithing which also uses fire? No problem, I can write you a recommendation letter when the time comes." Mama Mia acted swiftly, settling the matter directly.

"Mama Mia can I ask something?" Shirou said hesitantly.

"Yes. What is it? If you want to know about the low level familias you can also do so as previously I set them aside because, with low power, they have very little access to the resources. This also makes the standing within the gods very low as if you joined a low level familia and leveled up, you will surely get a ridiculous title by the high standing gods and your God won't be able to prevent it."

Title? It must be something about the name which Ryuu-San was called often, The [Gale]. Though it was not my question but I was stumbled upon a dark secret about the gods.

"It's not that but I wanted to ask if I could become an adventurer without me receiving God's grace?"

Mama Mia looked at Shirou for a while and sighed, "Well you could but it put you into very dangerous position because God's grace not only make you stronger, it also boost your vitality to survive any major wound for some time. If you really want to become adventurer I won't stop you but only after you recovered and got some training."

Shirou said apologetically, "Sorry, I promised to help here but now I'm asking to become an adventurer..."

"It's fine, when you earn money later, just pay back the elixir and treatment fees, I don't lack a kid like you here just if you go on adventure, make sure to come back everyday." Mama Mia waved her hand, patting his shoulder.

"Thank you." Shirou said sincerely.

Mama Mia waved her hand nonchalantly, "If one day you ever get tired of being an adventurer, come back anytime, I can still afford to feed one more person."

After that Shirou went to stroll through the streets and register as an free adventurer under the guild.

Shirou after figuring out his way finally stood at the entrance of the guild's hall.

It was a large building constructed out of fine brick and marble. It's entrance was covered in banners. A constant busting movement of people coming from the entrance.

'I'll register and apply for citizenship for Orario through the guild. The citizenship fee for an adventurer is higher than that of a normal civilian, but it processes quicker, and I do plan on entering the dungeon.'

Shirou entered the large building. He could see various conversations, lines, and movements from adventurers and guild staff alike.

The sight of it was surreal to Shirou. He was on a constant high of emotions once he had entered the gates of Guild building, the Pantheon.

'That long counters, it must be where magic stones are bought. That should be the commission center. So that...must be the general affair section'

Though this was Shirou's first time in the guild, he walked with familiarity. He had gathered this information from Mia before coming..

'I appreciate that Mama Mia told me this in advance or I would've struggled to figure it out by myself... though she refused to tell me much about the dungeon floors...'

Mia gave him tons of advice to help him register, but she refused to give Shirou information about the dungeon.

Shirou couldn't figure out the intention of Mia by depriving him of this information. She wanted him to be safe but didn't give vital information that could save his life.

Shirou simply trusted that Mia won't harm him so he didn't pushed her about this matter too much.

'I guess I'll just pay the extra fee to hire an advisor...someone knowledgeable, hopefully...'

The guild offers guidance for new adventurers through the advisor system. For a fee that is 5% of the total income every time, an adventurer could utilize the resources and experience of the guild and their staff when starting out.

Shirou decided to take this route to round out his already existing knowledge of the dungeon.

With that decided, Shirou entered a line. He was already tired of such a wait as he was still recovering, but he was able to endure it by pondering his future plans.

After waiting for some time it was finally his turn.

"Good morning and welcome, what would be the purpose of your visit today sir?"
