Chapter 42 - The Price of Winning Without Anything

Ten thousand meters high,

The cold current from the high altitude had little effect on Ronan. He headed straight towards the South Blue.

In fact, he didn't want to rush like this.

But after all, it was only two days before the execution. I remember that not long after the execution, the navy followed the clues and found Baterilla Island in the South Blue.

Captain Roger's wife, Portgas D. Rouge, postponed her birth for over a year to avoid naval inspection.

She eventually died after giving birth.

In order to be on the safe side, Ronan had to act in advance.

And with Ronan's speed of teleporting wherever he saw, it only took him about an hour to reach the South Blue.

If all goes well, he should be able to make it in time for the final execution.

South Blue,

Baterilla Island.

This is a very beautiful country, at least Ronan thinks it is very suitable for falling in love.

Love is always blind, and young girls in love will often fall in love with the handsome men on the sea.

But Rouge actually understood that although Roger loved her, a man like him could not be trapped by love, not to mention that he was about to die.

He loved her, but he loved the sea and his dreams more.

But Rouge was still willing, willing to leave a continuation of his bloodline for the man he loved.

Standing beside the cliff, Rouge looked out at the sea, the breeze blowing through her hair.

She looked at Roger's wanted poster, and the scene of the two of them cuddling together still emerged in her mind.

"If it's a boy, name him Ace, and if it's a girl, name her Ann."

This is the name Roger once promised,

But he will never have the chance to see his child again.

"Please accept my condolences, ma'am."

A voice broke Rouge's thoughts. She looked behind her vigilantly and saw a tall young man in black military uniform appear beside her at some point.

panic.

Her first reaction was that she was exposed.

After all, Roger is so famous that neither pirates nor navy would want to let go of his bloodline.

She must escape!

"Don't be nervous, ma'am... I'm not a bad person. Captain Roger was worried about your safety and asked me to come here."

Roger?

Perhaps because of the name, or because Ronan didn't do anything extreme, Rouge finally stayed where she was for the time being.

After all, she was a pregnant woman, so where could she run to in front of a tall and strong man?

Seeing that Rouge finally didn't escape, but still had a vigilant look on her face, Ronan also had a headache.

What can prove your identity?

I should have asked Captain Roger to write a letter or something.

After thinking for a moment, he finally came up with an idea:

He took out his wanted poster and showed it directly in front of Rouge, pointing to the column where he introduced himself.

"Ma'am, you'll understand after seeing this."

Seeing that he was speaking sincerely, Rouge looked towards the place where Ronan pointed in the newspaper.

"...regardless of life or death, the crime is extremely heinous?"

After reading the introduction, Rouge looked at the "villain" in front of her more vigilantly.

Ronan: "…"

You're pointing to the wrong place.

"Ronan... a member of the Roger Pirates?"

Perhaps he saw the doubt in Rouge's eyes, Ronan rubbed his head, he was actually a little helpless,

no way,

He had already forced his way on board halfway, and followed Roger to reap the benefits of the times, becoming a dog that won without doing anything.

There has to be a price to pay.

After all, he is not like Roger's other crew members, who follow Roger only out of like-minded friendship or pursuit of dreams.

The relationship between them is equal, and the Roger Pirates are not a family based on bloodline theory. They have no obligation to do anything for Roger's widow and children.

Whether it's out of ignorance or indifference, there's nothing wrong with it.

Their main mission entrusted by Roger was to guide the person who inherited Roger's will to Laugh Tale at the right time.

And not someone who inherited Roger's bloodline.

But Ronan, Shanks and Buggy are different. After they boarded the ship as young children, Captain Roger gave them undeniable guidance and protection.

Under such a relationship, Shanks and Buggy, as the new era's hope to compete for the qualification of One Piece, devoting themselves to the new era is the best reward for him.

Shanks inherited the Straw Hat and carried on Roger's will, hoping to reach Laugh Tale at the right time.

Even if it fails, it will maintain the balance of the ocean and pave the way for the next person to inherit Roger's will.

As one of the potential seeds of the new era, Roger didn't place much hope on Buggy, but he also didn't put much effort into his training. The two could offset each other.

Only Ronan does not belong to any of the above.

He was both a remnant of the old era and a young man living in the new era. Roger didn't even ask him to do anything.

On the way back from Laugh Tale, after realizing that Ronan's greatest pursuit was happiness and freedom,

He didn't even ask for protection for the person who inherited his will. He only asked him to give the world's "hope" to others, and there were no other requests.

It was this awkward position that made Ronan feel that he should do something.

After all, he didn't inherit any will, but he still got all the power and benefits.

so,

Taking good care of Captain Roger's wife and children was the only thing he could think of to repay Roger.

"Yes, before Captain Roger left, he was worried about you and asked me to take care of you."

Ronan told a white lie with a faint smile on his face, without any trace of acting.

And it was these few simple words that broke through the last line of defense in Rouge's heart.

The water rippled and tears fell like beads from a broken string. Rouge leaned her forehead against Ronan's body, biting her lip, still tightly clutching the newspaper about Roger's upcoming execution.

There was a huge age gap between them. She fell in love with Roger because of love, so she respected Roger's dreams and choices.

But this doesn't mean she doesn't care about this love.

After learning that Roger still cared about them, Rouge had no doubts and chose to trust his crew member Ronan.

And willing to follow him away.

After all, she and her child need a safe environment, and Ronan, as Roger's crew member, seems so reliable.

Next, the two did not waste any time, after all, Ronan had to rush back to watch the execution.

Ronan followed Rouge back to the cabin and simply packed some luggage.

Ronan picked up a huge package easily, looked around, and suddenly found the dusty knife in the corner.

Roger's sword,

One of the Twelve Great Swords of Supreme Power,

Ace.

"If you want, I can give it to you." Rouge noticed this scene and said with a smile,

After all, she didn't need it. Roger had more than one relic, and now Ronan was the only support for them, and he was also Roger's crew member...

Do a favor and go with the flow.

She will also feel at ease.
