Larissa's POV
I pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek before making my way into the living room. Dad was settled in his favorite recliner, television remote balanced on his lap. His complexion had improved dramatically since my last visit - the ashen pallor replaced by healthy color, his eyes bright and focused. The heart surgery had been a success, though his recovery remained gradual.
"Hey there, Dad."
His face transformed with genuine delight when he spotted me. "Larissa! What a wonderful surprise."
"Not really a surprise. I mentioned to Mom I'd be stopping by."
"She kept that information to herself." He gestured toward the sofa next to his chair. "Come sit with me. I want to hear about everything."
"Nothing thrilling to report. Just another day at the office."
Dad's weathered face creased with amusement. "Good. Excitement is overrated at our age."
