Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Perks and New Goal

"What? Celestial Grimoire?"

I don't know what it was. I try to remember all kinds of Grimoires, but none has the one called Celestial Grimoire. There is a Grimoire of Fire that teaches its master how to master all kinds of fire spells.

You have access to the Celestial Grimoire. You will get five random Free Perks and one random perk that is worth 200 Celestial Points or CP

Wait. Is it like a CYOA or a Jumpchain? Also… It is random, huh? I am bad with Gacha, and I hope my luck does not carry over to this world. How can I use this?

I blink when the familiar Grimoire appears in front of me. It floats there with a blue screen saying spin on it. I can see my CP, which says zero. I can also see five free tickets and one golden ticket with 200 written on it.

Without hesitation, I press the spin button. What? Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I watch it spin before it stops, and another screen appears in front of me.

Clever Craft

Elder Scroll

100 CP

Having been trained as a mage, you know basic spells from each of the schools of magic and can easily learn new spells.

I clutch my head as a rush of knowledge appears inside my head. I struggle in my bed as knowledge keeps rushing inside my brain. Lucky for me, it does not last longer than two minutes.

When it is done, I smile a little. With this power, I can use a new magic system that is not known in this world. It is simpler and more raw than the magic system in this world. It is easy to use in exchange for more mana per use.

I am very grateful for my condition. The reason why I don't study magic is because of my mother's mana condition. What does this mean? My mana is too thick to be used in this world's magic system, which requires fine control.

Thick mana means higher-grade mana. That might sound good, but only certain races, including High Elves, high-ranking elves, and Dragons, can use that kind of mana. Humans can only use low-grade mana. If my mana is like wet concrete, a low-grade mana feels like water.

However, with this Clever Craft, I can use my mana and even benefit from my condition. If I have a low-grade mana, it will take a lot of my reserve to cast a single [Healing] spell for a second. However, I can cast the [Healing] spells for two minutes straight with my high-grade mana and only spend a quarter of my reserve.

With this single perk, I am already satisfied. I don't know what kind of scroll is considered an Elder Scroll, but I am grateful for getting power from that thing.

I press another button and watch it spin. After a few seconds, another screen appears.

Pegasus

Warhammer Fantasy: Halfling

300 CP

|I've officially given up on understanding you short bastards. You have access to ponies and battle sheep - steeds that you can actually ride effectively and direct - and some of you are still mad enough to climb six or seven feet up into the saddle of a Sigmar-damned pegasus. You know those beasts fly high enough to reach the clouds, right? And your legs aren't long enough to reach the stirrups?

Well, if you insist. On purchase, you receive your very own, fully-matured pegasus. Theorized to ride on the Winds of Magic to support their equine bulk, Pegasi fly as magnificently as any eagle or swan flies through the air. Cunning and intelligent creatures, the pegasus is a mount worth thousands of gold crowns to any nobleman or magister of the Empire.|

I read through the description of the power and looked in shock. I don't know what Warhammer Fantasy is, but by reading the long description, I know that I received a new familiar from somewhere. Does that mean Elder Scrolls is the name of the world or galaxy instead of an object? Interesting.

Anyway, Pegasus is a race of magical creatures of this world. Just like the description says, Pegasus can soar through the clouds and travel from one place to another in a short amount of time. They are cunning, intelligent, and rather assholes to anyone they do not like.

I remember a story of a king who failed to tame a Pegasus and demanded its death, but the magic horse was able to run away. The Pegasus makes the king's life hell for three years by alerting monsters when he travels or scares the horse that carries him.

The end result? The king fears leaving his castle and is paranoid about horse-shaped things.

And I get one that is loyal to me and able to summon it anywhere.

I smile a little and press the spin button once again. I watch it spin for a few seconds, and another screen appears in front of me.

Hyperium Foci

Endless Legend

200 CP

This Staff alters the flow of time, allowing the wielder to hasten allies and slow foes to a massive extent. The greater the caster, the greater the effect. It only affects a few targets at once as well, topping out at about 10.

Without me summoning it, a magic staff appears on my lap. It is made of metal with a sun-like head on the end of the staff. I hold it and feel a warm feeling coursing through my body. The staff accepted me, and it will now work with me.

The staff itself is rather heavy, around four kilograms. However, it is not enough for me to struggle swinging it around.

I test it for a few seconds and nod my head in satisfaction. I put it away for now and pressed the spin button once again. After a few seconds, a screen appears in front of me.

Gift of the Gab

Irish Mythology

100 CP

You speak well, and quickly, and in all the tongues of men. You're quick with a joke, pun, and other forms of wordplay, like riddles.

This one is easy and convenient. There are a lot of languages in the world. Not as many back on Earth, but there are still at least a dozen of them. With this, I can understand them. However, the wording is a bit confusing. All Tongues of Men. Does that mean I can only understand the language of humans? Or humanoid as well, like Beastmen, Dwarves, and Elves?

Well, I can only test it later.

I press the button once again, and after a few seconds, another screen appears.

Hero of Legend

RWBY: Age of the Gods

600 CP

Truly, you are someone who could be a great Hero. A Legend in the making, much like Ozma. This perk makes it so that any power or ability you have, even one you have acquired only once, will be as if you had them for a lifetime. You will immediately know how to use them, and this also boosts the effect of Gift of the Gods, making you an equal to Ozma in his prime. Of course, when you take up tasks needing these skills and succeed, your legend will grow till one day the World will know your name as a Hero.

I clutch my head as another rush of knowledge appears inside my head. Countless memories of how to use my [Clever Craft] magic effectively appear in my mind and make my body remember how to control the magic as if it were second nature to me.

After a few minutes, the pain disappears and leaves me panting on the bed.

As expected of 600 CP power. It does not give more things, but the upgrade it performs is something you cannot underestimate. I think I can perform my [Clever Craft] magic three times more efficiently than before. Now, a quarter of my reserve can let me use [Healing] spells for ten minutes or maybe more.

With this, I have a good foundation for my plan. Oh, wait. I still have one more ticket, right? This time, it guarantees power equal to 200 CP.

I press the spin button and watch it go. After a few seconds, it stops and shows me what kind of power I get.

Black Mage

Final Fantasy IX

200 CP

|Destruction is the basic tenet of Black Mages, such that by default, a Black Mage would be somewhat proficient in basic black magic. Should you yearn for further education, however, we have an instructor fit for you. By the end of our course, you'll be proficient in all the basic aspects of black magic up to the intermediate concepts.

Sadly, we don't have enough time to give you a thorough lesson on the advanced concepts – but with what little understanding you will gain, it should just be a matter of time for you to learn advanced spells|

Another rush of knowledge enters my head; this time, it is twice as bad as before. I shudder and clutch my head in pain as a massive rush of knowledge appears inside my head. When it is done, I am sweating all over my body, and the pain is still there, albeit lessened by a lot.

I release a sigh and smile weakly.

Black Mage… That is bad news in this world. Black Mage is the master of forbidden magic. However, this power is not that. Instead, it gives me knowledge of a destructive mage with a small amount of support magic.

With this knowledge, anyone can become a high-ranking mage. I think they are called Journeyman Mage. Mages have ranks that go like this: Trainee → Apprentice → Journeyman → Master → Grandmaster → Archmage.

Turning myself into a Journeyman mage… That is a very powerful perk. Combine it with the [Hero of Legend] perk, and I can be considered a Master because I also know other kinds of magic.

With all of these perks, I can be a great adventurer and use them to gather more CP. Speaking of CP, how can I get them?

The user can gather CP by doing something extraordinary! Work hard and you shall be rewarded!

"Are there no mission lists or something?"

Seeing no answer, I release a sigh and watch as the Grimoire disappears. Well, it looks like I really need to work hard first to fulfil my dream.
