Chapter 25 - A highly successful investigation

Of course, Liu Xing felt that Wang Siyi's so-called "no physical contact between men and women" was just an excuse; to put it bluntly, he simply disdained Baihe City.

Liu Xing checked his phone. It was only around 3:30 p.m., still quite early, with a few hours left before dinner.

So, Liu Xing decided to take a stroll outside the main building. Of course, he definitely wouldn't go to the back garden.

"Chen Ling, you take care of Baihe City first. I'd like to go out for some fresh air. Anyone want to come with me?" Liu Xing stretched and stood up.

In a Cthulhu role-playing game, being alone is not a good idea. After all, single-handedly solving all kinds of problems, crises, and enemies is something you'd only think of in fantasy novels.

Wang Qi naturally understood this. Of the five players in this run, only Wang Qi and Chen Ling were combat-oriented (Baihe City had been categorized as troublemakers). Since Chen Ling was currently responsible for protecting Baihe City, Wang Qi understood that Liu Xing was inviting him to gather intelligence outside the main building.

So, Wang Qi stood up, stretched, and said with a smile, "Then I'll go with you. After all, I've been stuck in the castle for so long, I want to get some exercise."

Chen Ling, knowing his current responsibility was to protect (and monitor) Baihe City, nodded. "Yes, then. You two can go out and get around. I'll take care of Baihe City here. There shouldn't be any accidents."

As for Wang Siyi, as usual, he was very reserved with his words and simply nodded, indicating that he understood.

As Liu Xing and Wang Qi were leaving the main building, they ran into Old Wayne, who was cleaning. "Butler Wayne, we'd like to take a walk outside. Are there any forbidden areas in the castle that we can avoid?"

Old Wayne chuckled and said, "This isn't a movie. How could there be any forbidden areas in this castle? But the back garden hasn't been tidied in a while, so I personally don't recommend you go there. There might be dangers like poisonous insects and snakes. The doctor in Einstein Town passed away a while ago. If anything happens to you, you'll have no choice but to go to Manchester."

Liu Xing nodded and agreed with Old Wayne to return to the main building within two hours to prepare for the dinner.

After saying goodbye to Old Wayne, Liu Xin and Wang Qi left the main building and went to a fountain in front of it.

"Wang Qi, why don't we go to the castle gate and take a look? I want to know how it opens. Is it really opened by a winch like in the movies?" Liu Xing said to Wang Qi, gazing at the castle gate not far away.

As mentioned earlier, there are only two ways to leave the castle: either go directly through the castle gate or jump from the castle wall.

If the second option is chosen, the risk is simply too high. After all, the wall is estimated to be about seven or eight meters high, which is almost the height of a four-story building. And the ground is concrete. Jumping from that height would probably require everyone to seek treatment at the nearest German orthopedic clinic.

So, the second option can be ignored.

So, Liu Xing was now contemplating how his group could exit the castle gate.

Of course, the castle gate can actually be divided into two doors: the main wooden door and the small iron gate for access.

The small iron gate was clearly electronically locked, and the key naturally lay in Old Wayne's possession. While Liu Xing and the others could try to obtain it from him through various means—persuading him with skills, using force, or even directly robbing him—Old Wayne was, after all, just an ordinary elderly human.

However, Old Wayne had the powerful overlord, the castle lord, standing behind him. Liu Xing doubted the lord would allow them to take Old Wayne's key. Therefore, leaving the castle through the small iron gate would be a long and arduous task.

As for the wooden door, Liu Xing had noticed its thickness when entering the castle through the small iron gate. It was probably around ten centimeters. With a door of this thickness standing about five meters tall, one could imagine its weight.

However, Liu Xing remembered seeing various vehicles passing by on the way from Eins Town to the castle, and there was a vintage car parked next to the castle's main building.

Obviously, these vehicles couldn't enter or exit the castle through the small iron gate, so this wooden door must be openable. Furthermore, Liu Xing doubted that Wayne, given his physical stature, could winch the wooden door open on his own. Therefore, Liu Xing was now certain that the castle's wooden door must be equipped with an electric door opener!

Now, Liu Xing wanted to find out the exact location of this electric door opener to prepare for his escape from Einstein Castle.

Wang Qi naturally understood Liu Xing's thoughts and nodded decisively. Liu Xin and Wang Qi then arrived at the castle gate together.

KP004 didn't even bother letting Liu Xing and Wang Qi investigate, simply handing them a tip: "When you reach the castle gate, you'll find a small room on the wall. Inside is the gate's electric door opener."

Liu Xing and Wang Qi looked up and saw a small wooden room that stood out from the wall. It was the kind of place that clearly had something fishy going on. No wonder KP004 hadn't bothered to let them investigate.

So, Liu Xing and Wang Qi climbed the stairs to the wall and entered the small room.

In the small room, Liu Xing saw an old-fashioned wooden capstan with a chain attached. It had been modified so that the electric door opener could pull the chain and open the gate (this is just a figment of my imagination, as I have no idea what an electric door opener actually is).

Liu Xing also noticed a small sign hanging above the plug of the electric door opener: MADE IN CHINA.

Liu Xing couldn't help but raise a brow, momentarily at a loss for words.

"Now, you can choose to pass a reconnaissance check." KP004 stepped forward again.

Does this even require a choice? Of course, you have to pass it.

Liu Xing, 4/60, great success.

Wang Qi, 21/65, success.

"Well, you found a booklet about how to use this electric door opener, and luckily, it's written in Chinese," KP004 said, sighing.

Clearly, if Liu Xing's reconnaissance hadn't been a great success, the manual for the electric door opener would likely have been in English, or he would have needed to pass another luck check.
