Chapter 137: Why would you want to slap me?
After rethinking her life choices, Raya finally fell asleep.
Not because she had found peace, peace was far too kind a word, but because her body had simply given up on her. Exhaustion claimed her the way a tide swallowed a drowning soul, heavy and merciless. Her mind had fought for hours, replaying moments she wished she could tear apart and rewrite. Adrian's smile. Anna's trembling voice. The sound of that slap echoing through the living room like a death sentence.
Her lashes were still damp when sleep took her. Tear tracks clung to her cheeks, drying uncomfortably against her skin. Her body curled inward beneath the covers, knees drawn close to her chest as though she were trying to shield her heart even in unconsciousness.
If anyone looked closely, they would see it, how sleep had not softened her expression, how tension still lived between her brows, how fear lingered in every shallow breath she took.
This wasn't rest.
