Chapter 1 4 3: Sharing the same bed
Adrian's expression didn't change.
Not even a flicker crossed his face at Kaelo's question, yet something unreadable stirred behind his eyes, a brief shadow, gone as quickly as it came. He leaned back in his chair with deliberate ease, fingers tapping lightly against the polished armrest, his posture relaxed but commanding. It was the kind of calm that unsettled people more than anger ever could.

"What do you think?" he asked.
The question was soft, almost lazy, but it carried weight. Kaelo felt it instantly, the shift in the air, the subtle pressure that pressed against her chest and made her spine stiffen.
She knew she had misstepped.
For a heartbeat, she stood frozen, her mind racing as she recalculated her words. Asking that question had been reckless. Dangerous. And she knew Adrian well enough to understand that he never forgot such things.
