"What?" Raya blurted out before she could stop herself.
The word slipped from her lips sharp and unguarded, cutting through the excited murmurs around them. The moment it left her mouth, she felt it, the shift. The sudden pause. The curious looks.
Her heart skipped.
What the hell, Raya? she scolded herself immediately. Get a grip.
She forced her lips to curve upward again, but the smile was stiff now, unnatural. Too slow. Too late.
Why did she react like that?
Seven million.
The number kept echoing in her head, loud and relentless, drowning out everything else. Seven million dollars. For a car. A gift. Something handed to her so casually it made her chest feel tight.
Camilla's voice cut through her spiraling thoughts.
"Why are you so shocked about it, Sera?" Camilla asked with a faint smile, her tone light but her eyes observant. "You're a car guru. You should have known its worth, even I know it's worth"
Raya swallowed.
