Chapter 65 — "Lightning, Smoke, and Family Issues" (Rewrite)
Sunny's POV
[A/N:I wasn't satisfy with my last chapter so I fully read write it]
Loguetown was pure chaos.
The smell of rain mixed with smoke, fire, and burned fish. Shouting civilians scattered through the streets as Marines swarmed from every direction. Somewhere in the distance, Sanji and Nojiko's cooking booth was still on fire, Usopp's screaming echoing over the market like a dying seagull.
Meanwhile, Lucy, Aqua, and I stood right on top of the execution platform—the same one where the Pirate King met his end.
And just below us? Buggy the Clown, red-nosed menace of comedy and chaos, standing proudly with his crew and waving a ridiculously oversized sword.
"LUCY!" he bellowed, eyes glittering with revenge. "At last, fate has brought us together again! Today, I'll execute you myself—just like Roger!"
Lucy blinked. "Who?"
Buggy twitched. "WHO—?! You don't even remember me!?"
I whispered, "You sure he's okay?"
Aqua leaned closer. "I think the nose is affecting brain circulation."
Buggy's face went red—no, redder. "ENOUGH! STRAW HATS! YOUR TIME ENDS HERE!"
He raised the sword dramatically… then tripped on a loose plank.
Aqua snorted. "UmU~ impressive start."
Lucy grinned. "He's a clown, all right."
But before we could laugh too much, Smoker's voice thundered through the crowd.
"BUGGY! STRAW HATS! ALL OF YOU ARE UNDER ARREST!"
The Marines closed in. Tashigi was already sprinting up the steps, sword drawn, eyes locked on Lucy. Smoker's smoke coiled around us, ready to strike.
For a moment, the entire world seemed to hold its breath.
Then Lucy, with that trademark grin, leaned over to Buggy. "Hey, clown-face, I've got an idea."
Buggy blinked. "Huh?"
"Let's see who can fly higher."
She turned to me. "Sunny?"
"Yeah?"
"Kick me."
"…What?"
"Kick. Me."
Before I could even protest, Lucy jumped, and out of pure reflex, I swung my leg—sending her soaring into Buggy like a cannonball.
The two collided midair and BLASTED off into the sky in a burst of smoke and sparkles.
"WAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!"
Buggy's crew screamed.
Lucy's voice echoed faintly as they disappeared into the clouds. "UmUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu—!!"
Aqua clapped slowly. "That… was magnificent. Team Rocket would be proud."
---
Moments later…
Lightning cracked through the sky.
The storm came fast, thick clouds rolling over Loguetown like an angry sea. Rain poured in sheets, turning the streets into rivers. Aqua looked up, eyes glowing faintly.
"This isn't my storm…" she murmured. "Something's wrong."
Smoker's smoke was swept aside by a sudden blast of wind—unnatural, sharp, alive.
Lucy reappeared, crashing back onto the execution platform with a thud, Buggy's broken sword still spinning beside her.
"Owww… UmU… that was not my best landing."
She groaned, pushing herself up—then froze.
A tall man stood before her, his cloak fluttering wildly in the storm, half his face hidden beneath the shadow of his hood. The mark of a dragon coiled faintly on his arm, glimmering green in the lightning.
Smoker stepped back instinctively. "You—! What are you doing here!?"
Lucy squinted, wiping rain from her eyes. "Wait… who's this mysterious guy showing up in dramatic lightning?"
The man looked at her… and smiled faintly. "You've grown, Lucy."
The storm seemed to hush around them.
Lucy blinked. "...Dad?"
Aqua's eyes widened. "That's your dad!?"
Sunny scratched his head. "He's… kind of cool."
Dragon nodded solemnly. "I am Monkey D. Dragon."
Lucy tilted her head, looking disappointed. "Oh."
Dragon blinked. "...'Oh'? What do you mean, 'oh'?"
"I thought you were a dragon."
Dragon froze. "...Excuse me?"
Lucy shrugged. "Well, your name is Dragon! I expected scales, wings, fire breath—something! This is just false advertising."
Aqua nearly doubled over laughing. "UmU~! She has a point!"
Even Smoker twitched at the corner of his mouth.
Dragon sighed, thunder rolling behind him like the world itself was groaning. "You truly take after your mother."
Lucy tilted her head. "What's that supposed to mean?"
Before he could answer, a flash of lightning struck the execution platform directly. The whole town lit up white for a heartbeat—pure, blinding brilliance.
When the light faded, the ropes holding Lucy's wrists had snapped clean. The execution stand was in splinters.
Dragon turned away, cloak billowing. "Your journey is far from over, Lucy."
Then—he was gone, disappearing into the storm like a shadow swallowed by the wind.
---
Smoker tried to chase, but a sudden wave of water rose like a wall between them—Aqua's doing. She smiled faintly. "Sorry, big guy. Storm says no."
Smoker cursed under his breath. "Damn it… they always slip away."
Lucy, now fully free, turned to me and grinned like nothing happened. "Well, that was… something."
I exhaled, rain running down my face. "You just met your dad for the first time in years. That's your reaction?"
"Yep."
"You called him false advertising."
"Yep."
Aqua folded her arms. "At least the genetics check out or not ."
Lucy laughed, lightning flashing again behind her. "Guess so. UmU~"
---
As we regrouped in the alley, thunder still roaring above, Nami and Zoro appeared soaked but alive. Sanji, Nojiko, and Usopp followed, each holding what remained of the cooking booth like war trophies.
Nami groaned. "Can we please leave this cursed town already?"
Usopp shivered. "Agreed. I saw lightning kiss the platform! KISS IT!"
Zoro smirked. "Heh. Typical Straw Hat mess."
Sunny chuckled softly, looking at Lucy, who was out drawing rain water of her hair.
"Hey," I said. "You okay?"
She smiled faintly. "Yeah. Just… thinking about my dad."
"What about him?"
"…Still wish he was an actual dragon."
Aqua burst out laughing again, falling onto the wet cobblestone. "UMUUUUUUUUU—!!"
And just like that, through rain, thunder, and chaos, the crew's laughter echoed through Loguetown—marking the end of another insane day.
