Chapter 7 - The Benevolent, Bitter, Banal, Hackneyed

After the demon evolved within the city after gaining energy to carry on, the demon fled the city... why? Because death can't occur if everyone is already gone... The thorn truly is benevolent.

and so the iron thorn found a homey cave to hibernate within... until...

***

The beast awoke from its slumber, It was time to fight.

It rose from the cold stone, its thorny iron hide grinding with the sharp, rhythmic clink of metallic shifting tools.

A shadow stumbled upon it.

'Shrewd, this greedy one welcomes itself into MY home..? Who gives it the right to!?'

The shadow, however, stood there somberly; It was sad.

'… Die~!'

The iron thorn swung its thorny blade at the shadow, alas, it's formless.

A sharp sting followed by a slight cold feeling to flood in the iron thorns calf.

'A diversion ..?'

Quickly shifting and swinging a manifested thorn dagger only to miss the weasel.

It ducked and dodged the thorny blade, but eventually the thorny Knight nicked him.

But Nothing happened

It would appear that the greedy shadows' blood is exceptional.

'How'

But … just as the thorns of the iron covered demon retracted back towards the source, they shifted and adopted a darker complexion.

The thorns had become of, shadow.

My thorns feel weightless. The demon was going to think… up until they were burned and cut off by a surprising, sudden offense.

'What is going on!?'

Until suddenly.

WHAM~!

A small pebble hit his visor by a rock thrown by a blind girl ... The irony.

But that was enough to distract not only the demon but also two of the attackers.

That sudden disruption of flow told the demon where to aim, and also where to flee.

The demon was scared. Not of the light, but of the dark, Like most animals, he was aware of the danger of being unable to see your prey or, Your predator. And if you can't see your enemy... It means you're unable to fight your enemy. You'd die. Additionally, if it took their own teammate to reveal their locations, then … One should not rush toward any fire simply to flee the biting frost, especially if there is a certainty that it will burn you.

And so the demon fled … or so it thought when it realized where its shoulder was; the arm was missing… and behind him, a demon of different flesh so easily holding it above himself, how treacherous of you. The demon thought.

Why was the demon struggling?

It was obvious.

Thorns aren't able to be physically harmed, of course. And when you can only deal damage with thorns, of course you can't win, right~?

well you shouldn't be able to naturally.

or at least a regular thorn shouldn't.

But the thorny creature wasn't just any animal. No, its soul had replaced its mind and vice versa, so the facet of those corrupted as they can detect beings observing them was lost. Instead, the demon could force those whom it detected to become hyper-aware of himself.

And so he did.

He forced everything that he could detect to become aware of him.

And they wouldn't, they couldn't ignore such an allure, like pollen to a bee.

Everything around became docile, or at least thought less of the flower like, seeming metal plant rather than the warm fire within the cold world.

The enamored flame bearers quickly regained full sight, with the twisted dusk being the first, and the casualty witness next, right before the suttee lifted themselves off their knees.

After which they gave puzzled looks and then contemplated simply to strike the thorn down, but then. The fog came and settled, and before anything else could happen… The blind girl yelled out to become as blind as her and to abandon their sight like a fun imitation of her…

how twisted…

The thorn fled.
