Chapter 7 - buying gear and training

Once I woke up, I started to get ready for the day. After I got dressed, I went to have breakfast and went to talk to my parents.

"Mom, dad? I made plans to get gear with Blake a bit later today. Can you give me some spending money for gear, and just to have fun with?"

Hearing this mom seemed to be surprised. "I didn't know you made plans already. Thats a bit troublesome, me and your dad were planning on going to today's auction to get you some gear." After she thought to herself for a few seconds she began to speak up.

"It should be fine for you and Blake to go shopping together. However, don't buy a weapon for yourself. There wasn't going to be any good piece of armor at the auction, we were mainly eying a potential weapon for you so it should be fine."

After getting her approval she transferred around 200,000 credits to my accounts.

'Wow is she ok giving me all this? Even a high-quality beginner gear would only cost around 80,000 credits. Even if I gave both me and Blake the best we could find we would still have an extra 40,000. Actually, this might be useful. I could buy a few beginner skills or a manual for both of us.'

After my mom agreed I started to relax and watch tv since there was still 2 or 3 hours till our meting time arrived.

After about 2 hours of watching dramas later, I started to head out to meet Blake.

----------

I managed to arrive at the shopping district around 10 minutes early and decided to text Blake.

Lucious: "Hey Blake, I'm here let me know when you arrive" 10:52

Blake: "I'm just about there, just need another 5 minutes" 10:53

----------

After receiving his text, I sat down at the bench and decided to wait for him, but after just 6 minutes I started to get annoyed, and my tail began to show it.

'What's taking him so long to get here, it's only like a 10-minute walk from his house. Wait, I don't remember being this impatient before, is this a side effect of one of my traits?'

As I started to think about if I was always this impatient, I heard a voice call out to me.

"Hey Lucious, I'm here. Sorry I was late. I overslept and only woke up 20 minutes beforehand."

After hearing him finally arrive my mood started to pick up a bit, and my tail wagged slightly.

"Your finally hear!" I said happily. "Let's go! Do you want to shop first or get lunch?"

"Slow down." He said trying to calm me down. "We need to talk about what we need first. What pieces of armor do we need? Do you know what weapon we need to get? Do you want to grab a skill book or magic manual?"

I began to calm down and started to think about what he said. "We need armor for our torso, legs, hands, and feet. My parents are getting me a weapon so that leaves you to decide what you want. With books or manuals how about we get magic manuals and only skill books if their interesting or required? Manuals are cheaper and we can develop our own magic once we understand the principles."

"Alright! Then it's decided what we will buy." He said with confidence. "However, we should probably get some lunch first since it's already 11:02."

I agreed with him as we looked for a restaurant to eat at.

'What should we have for lunch? Noodles? Chicken? Steak? What about pizza, that sound good? With that we can customize the toppings plus nobody hates pizza, right?'

As I proposed my idea to Blake, he gave it a bit of thought and then agreed. Once that was decided we began to look for a good pizza place that both of us liked.

As we looked around for a place, we talked about what types of manuals or skills we wanted to get. After around 15 minutes of walking we found a place that we liked.

As we walked into the pizza shop, we chose to get a large pizza, with half of the pizza having his toppings and the other half mine. In the end we had a pizza with half being jalapenos, pork and peperoni, and the other half having extra cheese, mushrooms and bacon.

After we finished, we started to go shopping.

While going around the shopping center we found the shop we decided to visit. It was the branch of the 'Dawn Merchant's', a well renowned shop around the empire for good quality and decent prices.

We first went to get some armor for ourselves first. I grabbed an armor set made of obsidian spider threads, and regenerative slime extract. This armor set has 3 effects. First is additional limb, and form adjustment, allowing the armor to change its chape for the most comfort of the person wearing it. The second is self-repairing. The third is damage reduction, reducing damage of apprentice rank or below attacks by 15%.

Blake originally tried to grab a weak set that was barely qualified as gear but after scolding him he finally got something good. He got a silver and black armor which focused on output. It had self-repair, 15% extra physical damage, and 15% extra magical damage.

Now that we had armor, we went to grab a weapon for Blake. After looking at some weapons he decided to grab a sword. He didn't want to spend money on a enchanted weapon so he only got a durable one that will last till he can afford a better one.

Since we had our gear, we went to buy it then go to the magic manuals and skill books section. The total cost of the gear would cost around 143,000 which about matched my skill, saying everything is worth 142,783, but I wanted it cheaper.

Since you can bargain at the 'Dawn Merchant's' I decided to abuse my 'authority of greed', or to be more specific 'golden tongue', in order to get the price lower.

'It may be a decent price, but I could definitely get it for 135,000 and if I really put in the effort, I could lower it to 120,000. Now, how do I argue my case? If I'm correct the one who made the gear was made by a professional, but the enchanting was done by an apprentice. I can work with this!'

After deciding on my plan to lower the price I got to the place to purchase the gear. After a solid 15 minutes of back and forth I managed to lower the price by a good amount. I decreased the price by 13,000, going from 143,000 to 130,000.

'*sigh* My skills are definitely lacking. I only managed to lower the price by 9%. If I had more experience I definitely could have gotten 15%, or maybe 20%. I can't change it now so I shouldn't worry about it too much. Now what type of manuals and skills do I want? I should probably get manuals for any magic I feel like I could learn in the short term and skills for anything I can't replicate with magic.'

Me and Blake walked to the manuals and skills section and browsed through everything before deciding. Once we finished, we each picked a combination of 4 manuals and skills.

I grabbed 3 manuals and 1 skill book. The manuals were 'Introduction to Magic and Mana Control', 'All Affinities Basic Spells', and 'Basics of melee Magic'. The skill book I decided to get was 'novice combat mastery'. This was a common skill which granted me a slight talent for melee combat and weapon usage.

Blake got 2 manuals and 2 skills. The manuals he got were 'Introduction to Magic and Mana Control', and 'Basics to Magic Swordsmanship'. The skills he got was pretty common. Those skills were 'physical boost', and 'novice sword mastery'.

Once we got them picked out, we went to purchase them. The manuals weren't that expensive only costing 1,000 to 3,000 each, but the skill books were more expensive costing around 10,000 to 15,000 per skill. The total cost of all of them was 56,000. The price of skill books and manuals were very strict so even if I wanted to, I wouldn't be able to get a lower price.

Once we got all of the things we wanted, we decided to hang out a bit more since we had some leftover money.

----------

After hanging out with Blake for a few more hours I headed back home to read my books and train.

Once i got back to the house I headed directly to my room and tried to calm myself.

'I can do this! It won't be that bad it will only last for a moment.'

After I prepared myself, I grabbed a pocketknife from my dresser and jabbed it into my hand.
