Chapter 72 - Chapter 72 – Brother Ye and I Hit It Off at First Sight

After Ye Fan left, Wang Jianqiang returned to his room and began refining artifacts.

Two days later, his cultivation points had finally accumulated to one hundred.

He took out the Foundation Establishment Pill recipe, focused his mind, and the system's voice immediately sounded:

"Ding! Inferior pill recipe detected. Optimization and upgrade requires 100 cultivation points. Proceed?"

"Yes."

"Ding! Foundation Establishment Pill recipe has been successfully optimized and upgraded into the Perfect Foundation Establishment Pill recipe."

As the notification echoed, the perfected pill recipe surged into Wang Jianqiang's mind.

He immersed himself in it for half an hour, then brought out herbs and began refining.

With his constitution, the resources needed to break through Foundation Establishment would be tremendous.

He was well aware of this, so he sealed himself away for five days straight, producing one hundred Perfect Foundation Establishment Pills.

Then he spent another ten-plus days refining a large stock of Perfect Yunxia Pills before finally stopping.

After that, he did nothing—just rested for a full day, adjusting his body into peak condition.

He was just about to begin his closed-door breakthrough when a sudden knock came at the door.

Wang Jianqiang's eyes flickered as he rose and opened it.

A stunningly beautiful figure appeared before his eyes.

Seeing the person outside, Wang Jianqiang's expression revealed surprise.

"Elder Dong? What brings you here?"

"Please, come in."

Dong Yue froze slightly, as though recalling something unpleasant. She instinctively took half a step back. "I only came to see if you managed to refine the Perfect Foundation Establishment Pill. I won't come in."

"How could that be? Letting an elder stand outside the door would be far too rude." Wang Jianqiang's eyes shifted slyly, and he grabbed her hand, pulling her inside.

Dong Yue's body stiffened, but she could only follow him in.

Once inside, she forced her expression into cool indifference. "So? Were you able to refine the Perfect Foundation Establishment Pill? When do you plan to attempt your breakthrough?"

"The Perfect Pill is already done."

Wang Jianqiang spoke as he took out a lustrous pill, waving it before her eyes. "As for the breakthrough… funny enough, I was just about to start when you came."

Dong Yue's curiosity deepened. She examined the pill closely and immediately sensed a purity of medicinal essence far surpassing ordinary Foundation Pills.

Her eyes lit up.

As expected of a Perfect Foundation Pill—the potency was astonishing.

Then she turned to Wang Jianqiang. "How much chance of success do you have?"

Wang Jianqiang coughed lightly. "Could be fifty percent, could be a hundred."

Dong Yue blinked. "What do you mean?"

Fifty or a hundred? That was far too wide a gap.

What kind of cultivator's success rate fluctuated like that?

Meeting her puzzled look, Wang Jianqiang swept her up and down with a deliberately bold gaze, chuckling. "My state of mind isn't fully balanced. It may affect the breakthrough… or it may not."

"If my mood doesn't interfere, then with my preparations, I'll definitely succeed. But if it does… then it'll depend on luck."

Dong Yue's heart skipped a beat.

Matters of the mind could be small or great.

If a heart demon were to form, Wang Jianqiang's attempt at breaking through could fail completely.

Her hopes of restoring her damaged foundation rested entirely on him.

If he failed… what would she do?

Her expression grew solemn. "What exactly is troubling your state of mind? Is there a way to remedy it?"

Wang Jianqiang smiled faintly. "My heart's flaw comes from you. Fixing it is simple."

"From me?" Dong Yue was stunned, her face puzzled.

"That's right."

Wang Jianqiang nodded. "Ever since that night, I can't stop dwelling on it. That longing created a crack in my heart. If Elder Dong were to share my bed once more, my state of mind would be complete."

Dong Yue was dumbfounded.

After regaining her senses, she instinctively assumed he was teasing her, shaking her head quickly. "Impossible. We agreed—just once."

Wang Jianqiang sighed. "If you're unwilling, so be it. Perhaps, if I'm lucky, this small flaw won't affect my breakthrough."

Those words only made Dong Yue more uneasy.

Though she suspected his excuse was fabricated, she couldn't afford to take that gamble.

After all, it had already happened once. Another time made little difference.

Biting her lip, her face flushing red, she looked at him. "On the path of cultivation, matters of the mind are not to be taken lightly."

"I'll help you resolve it."

Hearing her words, Wang Jianqiang broke into a smile.

"Elder Dong is truly magnanimous. Then I won't stand on ceremony."

After the storm of passion, Dong Yue slipped away under cover of night.

The next morning.

Wang Jianqiang, fully recovered, began his closed-door cultivation.

Once he had sealed himself away, Dong Yue stood quietly outside his room.

She glanced at the house, her gaze piercing the walls, landing on Wang Jianqiang as he cultivated.

After a moment of thought, she lifted her hand, sending more than a dozen beams of light into the surrounding void.

A moment later, spiritual light shimmered.

A protective barrier enveloped Wang Jianqiang's room.

"With this array, no cultivator beneath Core Formation will be able to disturb him."

Just as she was about to leave, a figure appeared suddenly.

Dong Yue's expression tightened.

Ye Fan. What was he doing here?

Could it be… because of her, he now bore malice toward Wang Jianqiang and had come to cause trouble?

A trace of vigilance flashed across her face.

Her figure flickered, blocking his path. "Ye Fan, what are you doing here?"

"Rou'er, you're personally standing guard for Wang Jianqiang? Seems your relationship is even closer than I imagined." Ye Fan's face lit up with delight when he saw her.

Hearing this, Dong Yue grew even more cautious, spiritual power quietly gathering around her. "Ye Fan, who I associate with is none of your concern."

Seeing her so defensive, Ye Fan froze, then quickly realized what she must be thinking.

"Rou'er, you misunderstand. I didn't come here to cause trouble."

Dong Yue frowned, staring at him without a word.

Noticing her wariness remained, Ye Fan laughed heartily. "Rou'er, Brother Wang and I hit it off at first sight. I only came today to chat with him. Who knew I'd arrive just as he was in seclusion?"

"Since that's the case, I'll lend a hand as well."

With that, he tossed out a verdant bead.

Dong Yue's face shifted, just about to stop him—then she noticed something and paused.

The bead shot into the air above the house, transforming into a jade-green barrier. Like an overturned bowl, it covered the entire house and her array within, forming a second layer of protection.

Dong Yue was dumbstruck, her mind momentarily blank.

She had thought Ye Fan's words were merely to lower her guard. But he had actually meant it.

Why had his attitude toward Wang Jianqiang changed so drastically, so suddenly?

What on earth had happened between them?
