When Uchiha Douhuan received Kakashi's message, he and Fugaku were at the Security Division, sorting through the clan's ninjutsu archive. Their task was to select jutsu suitable for the civilian shinobi assigned to the division.
From ancient family scrolls and battle spoils gathered by generations of Uchiha, they carefully picked out three C-rank techniques from each chakra nature. Naturally, the Fire Release section included the clan's pride—the Great Fireball Jutsu and the Phoenix Fire Technique. As for the other four elemental releases, while they weren't as refined as the clans specializing in them, they still far surpassed the average repertoire available to ordinary Genin. After all, not just any jutsu could make its way into the Uchiha's collection.
"Handing out C-rank ninjutsu after just a month of service… isn't that a little much?" Fugaku hesitated, his tone betraying unease.
Outside the clans, an average Genin might spend a whole year completing missions before earning the right to learn even a single C-rank technique—if their squad leader was generous enough. This was why the gap between the clan-born and the civilian-born shinobi remained so wide.
"Just give it to them," Douhuan replied flatly. "Knowledge doesn't run out. No matter how many learn, the jutsu themselves won't vanish. Other clans may fret over dwindling resources, but we Uchiha have the Sharingan as our foundation. That alone makes us different."
A knock came at the office door.
"Clan Leader, Hatake Kakashi requests an audience," reported Uchiha Kentaro, a young Chūnin barely two years Douhuan's junior, who had graduated the academy only last year. His expression, however, was far from welcoming.
"Guests are guests, Kentaro," Douhuan said gently, naming him with deliberate warmth. "Don't be discourteous."
"But—" Kentaro began, only for Douhuan to clasp his shoulder firmly and guide him along the hall.
"I know what you're thinking," Douhuan said in a calm but steady voice. "Kakashi carries one of our eyes. But that eye was a gift from Obito, given in the moment of his death. It carries Obito's will. To honor him, we must respect that decision. Kakashi hasn't defiled the Sharingan—he upholds our hero's wish."
His words carried through the corridor, loud enough that Kakashi, waiting in the reception room, heard every word.
For a moment, Kakashi's heart wavered. The Uchiha had always regarded him with suspicion since he'd inherited Obito's eye, yet this new clan leader greeted him with an unexpected openness.
Douhuan pushed open the reception room door and stepped inside.
"I wonder what brings you to the Security Division, Kakashi-senpai?"
"By order of the Hokage," Kakashi replied, his tone steady, "I request that Clan Leader Uchiha Douhuan report to the Hokage Building tomorrow regarding the progress of the Shimura Danzō investigation."
"I understand," Douhuan nodded. "I will be there."
Kakashi gave a slight bow and turned to leave—but Douhuan's voice stopped him.
"Kakashi-senpai, a moment, if you will."
Kakashi paused, frowning faintly. "What is it?"
"Since you're here, you should take custody of the Wood Release shinobi. We've completed our investigation. Given his age, he could not have participated in most of Danzō's crimes. The only matter in question… well, I believe you already know the truth. Ultimately, judgment should rest with the Hokage himself." Douhuan's tone softened into a smile.
Kakashi recalled the young Wood Release user he had once faced while protecting the Third Hokage. With a thoughtful nod, he agreed.
Douhuan personally led Kakashi to the interrogation wing. The screams of Shimura Hiroshi and others rang from within, drawing a faint crease across Kakashi's brow.
"Our methods lack the refinement of ANBU interrogations," Douhuan remarked evenly. "Sometimes… we rely on harsher measures. There's someone inside with ties to the White Fang incident. Would you care to see him?"
Kakashi's steps faltered. His face tightened, then he shook his head. "No… it would only cast the wrong impression if I did."
Douhuan didn't press further. Instead, he guided Kakashi to the cell holding Yamato. Producing a sealed scroll, he explained, "This one is the result of Danzō's twisted experiments with Orochimaru. I'll report the details to the Third Hokage tomorrow. Here—this is the key to the seal binding him."
He handed over the scroll, then gestured for Kakashi to take the prisoner.
Kakashi soon departed with Yamato, leaving Douhuan to his own devices. Once alone, the clan leader stepped into another chamber, where Yamanaka Fū was held.
Unlike Yamato, Fū's treatment had been brutal. Deprived of food and water for two days, beaten by nearly every prominent Uchiha Chūnin, and subjected to repeated genjutsu torture, he now hung broken on a wooden cross, too weak to even raise his head.
Douhuan set a table before him and began to write—a damning list of Danzō's crimes.
Colluding with Orochimaru to slaughter orphans… murdering comrades on the battlefield for their bloodlines… spreading lies about the White Fang, driving a hero to suicide… and finally, silencing the witnesses.
This was the greatest weapon of a time traveler: foreknowledge. Douhuan needed no interrogation. He already knew every dark deed Danzō had committed, and he had prepared his plan to fabricate the evidence.
When the record was complete, he approached the cross, slit Fū's finger, and pressed a bloody handprint onto the parchment.
Fū struggled to lift his head, his eyes burning with hatred.
Douhuan's Mangekyō Sharingan slowly spun open, its crimson tomoe whirling as chakra surged into Fū's mind.
His genjutsu skills were rough—barely entry-level compared to his clansmen. Any Uchiha Chūnin could outmatch him in illusions. But he didn't need finesse. He didn't want Fū to confess—he wanted to shatter him.
"Aba… Aba…"
The words slurred out as Fū's consciousness collapsed under the crushing force of the Mangekyō. His mind broke, leaving only a drooling shell bound to the cross, capable of nothing more than gibbering nonsense.
Uchiha Douhuan watched in silence, then turned away.
