Chapter 17 - A little favour

Isabella stormed out of the building, her heels striking the pavement like sparks. Her jaw was tight, eyes glinting with anger.

No. She wouldn't let this happen — not now, not after all these years. Some unknown woman taking her place beside Kane? Impossible.

She'd already lived through one shock when Kane appeared with a child five years ago, but this… this was different. That boy, Nick, had already ruined enough. And now Elara Vance — some quiet, simple assistant — dared to stand between her and the man she'd wanted all her life.

Isabella had loved Kane — and Kane only — for as long as she could remember. From the moment she first saw him at that party years ago, she had fallen. He wasn't like the others — confident, quiet, and far too composed to be swayed by beauty or charm. That was what drew her in.

Back then, he had been her best friend's boyfriend. The perfect couple — or so everyone said. But Isabella had never been the kind to accept what wasn't hers. She wanted him, not just out of love, but out of desire to win. To have what others couldn't. To feel powerful.

So, she did everything possible to break them apart. A whisper here, a lie there — little by little, she watched the cracks form until the relationship finally shattered. And she had succeeded. Kane was free.

But he never looked at her.

While every other man was ready to fall at her feet, Kane remained indifferent — polite, distant, always treating her as if she were nothing more than a passing acquaintance. It stung her pride more than her heart. That quiet rejection became an obsession she couldn't let go of.

Still, that didn't mean Isabella lived like a saint. She had her share of casual relationships, brief flings, and nights she didn't care to remember. But through it all, one thing never changed — her decision that she would only marry Kane Willison.

And now, as she thought about that other woman — Elara Vance — something dark twisted inside her. Kane might not have chosen her yet, but Isabella wasn't going to let history repeat itself. Not again.

As her driver pulled up to the hotel, Isabella barely waited for the car to stop before stepping out. Her heels clicked sharply against the marble as she strode through the lobby, fury simmering beneath a mask of cold grace. The elevator ride to the familiar floor felt painfully slow, every second feeding the storm inside her.

When the door to room 182 finally opened, a tall man in a bathrobe appeared — surprise flashing across his face before melting into a grin.

"Isabella," he said warmly, stepping forward. "Where have you been? I've missed you."

Before she could speak, his arms wrapped around her, pulling her close. His scent, his warmth — it was familiar, comforting in a twisted way. She tilted her face up, and his lips found hers in a deep, hungry kiss. For a moment, she let herself sink into it, letting the chaos in her chest blur into heat.

When they finally broke apart, his thumb brushed along her cheek, eyes filled with a mix of lust and curiosity.

"Where were you hiding, my darling?" he murmured agaIsabella gave a soft, low laugh, her hand tracing along his chest. "Nowhere important," she whispered as they moved to the bed.

After sometime Isabella keep her head on Harry chest and says "I need some favour"

"Anything for you," he said without hesitation.

She leaned in closer, her voice smooth and sharp at once. "I want you to find everything you can about a woman named Elara Vance. She works in Willison's office… as Kane Willison's personal assistant."

He smiled lazily, pressing a kiss against her neck. "Consider it done."

Isabella smirked, satisfaction flickering in her eyes as she tangled her fingers in his hair and kissed him again — this time slower, deliberate, like sealing a deal she knew would burn everything in its path.

The private office room was warm and quiet, the hum of the air conditioner the only background noise. Nick was sprawled across the floor, giggling as he played with small toys, while Elara crouched beside him, trying to organize a few papers and keep him entertained.

"Look, Mommy! Splash!" Nick shouted, holding a small cup of water.

Elara laughed, gently taking it from him. "Careful, sweetheart!" she warned. But before she could react, Nick tipped the cup — just slightly too far. Water splashed everywhere.

Elara moved instinctively to block most of it, but in the chaos, she accidentally shifted — and Kane, who had just stepped into the room, was caught right in the line of fire.

The cold water soaked through his shirt instantly. He froze for a moment, dripping and wide-eyed, looking down at both of them.

Elara and Nick went completely silent, fear flickering across their faces. Elara's heart raced; she had never seen Kane so unexpectedly vulnerable.

Then, Kane's lips twitched — and a laugh escaped him.

"Alright, alright," he chuckled, picking Nick up effortlessly. "You little troublemaker." He shook his head, running his fingers through his wet hair. A few drops of water splattered from his hair — landing on Elara's cheek.

Elara gasped softly, her eyes widening. Kane's gaze flicked toward her, and he realized she was soaked too.

Nick squealed with delight, laughing as Kane spun him lightly in his arms, then leaned down to shake his hair again — sending a few more droplets onto Elara. She laughed nervously, wiping her face, and Kane's chuckle deepened, warm and soft.

"See?" Kane said, his eyes twinkling. "you can't escape it." Nick pulled Elara a little closer, giving her a squeeze.

Nick, delighted, shouted, "Hug Mommy too!"

Elara's face flushed, but she leaned into Kane, allowing him to hold both of them — a small bubble of laughter and warmth amid the chaos.

For a moment, all tension, all confusion from the past days melted away. Just the three of them, soaked and laughing, and Kane's steady presence anchoring everything.
