Chapter 12 - Chapter 13: Between Desires 2

The evening air felt thick in the quiet park, the soft sound of the fountain blending with the far-off buzz of the city. Ezra leaned against a twisted oak tree, the mysterious information from the warehouse burning in his pocket, his fingers shaking as he thought back to Kael's touch. His mission felt precarious, the intel clouded by the intensity of Kael's gaze, yet his heart yearned for more. Then, Kael Voss appeared from the shadows, his trench coat billowing behind him, eyes sparkling with an almost maniacal energy as he searched the trees. "You're late," he rasped, closing the distance and letting his hand slide possessively around Ezra's waist. The scent of rain mixed with Kael's cologne engulfed Ezra, a tempting danger. Before he could say a word, Talia burst through the treeline, her boots crunching over fallen leaves, jealousy blazing in her eyes. "Voss, I told you to hand him over," she snapped at Kael, shoving herself between them with a glinting blade. Ezra felt a tightness in his chest, envy swirling within him and mingling with his waning resolve. Kael's lip curled in a snarl as he pushed her back, his tone ominous. "Never." His hand lingered on Ezra, a silent claim that felt both exhilarating and terrifying, until suddenly, a ping from Kael's comms cut through the tension. Nico's voice crackled through, "Boss, there's a glitch in the system—check it now!" Kael's expression turned fierce, leaving Ezra breathless, the unread data still heavy in his pocket.

Later, on the late-night train rattling through the city, the dim lights flickered across Ezra Kane's pale face as he slumped in a corner seat. The Prophecy App on his phone glowed ominously, displaying a vision that burned into his mind—Kael's empire in ruins, his hands stained with blood, a scream caught on Kael's lips. He felt a mix of dread and longing, the unread data from the park crate taunting him. The mission was slipping away, overshadowed by the memory of Kael's possessive grip, and he resented how much he wanted it. Just then, the train doors slid open, and Kael stepped in from the platform, his trench coat soaked from the rain, eyes wild with a mixture of paranoia and desire. "Caught that look," Kael murmured as he slid into the seat next to Ezra, their thighs brushing, sending a surge of electricity through him. His hand brushed against Ezra's, calloused fingers tracing his pulse, a dangerous heat in his gaze as he leaned in closer, his breath warm against Ezra's ear. "You're mine to break," he whispered, his voice low and unhinged, making Ezra's heart race as he wondered why Kael had chosen the train over his car.

The train lurched, causing their bodies to sway together, their lips almost touching, until Kael's comms buzzed again—Nico's voice urgent and terse, "Boss, the mainframe's down—act fast!" Kael's jaw clenched in frustration, his anger flickering in his eyes, and he pulled back, leaving Ezra trembling, the weight of his vision feeling heavier than ever.
