Chapter 56 - Chapter 56: Two of a Kind

Somewhere in a desert in the American continent, a secret base sits neatly with nothing but wide open lands around it. The base's secretive nature and its purpose to create era-breaking weapons have given it a legendary status around the world. Even a tribal chief from a secluded forest would know of this place's existence. That's just how incredible this place is.

Many unknown models of planes take off regularly, robots that can transform between vehicle form and humanoid form can be seen occasionally patrolling the base, and reports of small green men are prevalent among the very few neighbourhoods that still stand at the perimeter of the base.

Such stories are astonishing if they didn't come from this place. The moment the name of the base is uttered, all of those supernatural phenomena become natural phenomena. That is simply the nature of this place.

The surface may give an image that the base is mostly used to test experimental aircraft, but underneath clear such shallow assumptions. Underneath the base are labs that are crawling horizontally and vertically. Hundreds of cubic kilometres of earth have been dug to allow the construction of all the labs that research a lot of things. Antimatter, anti-gravity, dark flame, mineral extraction from lava, and, more importantly, aliens.

All of these activities surely would need someone to oversee them, and there is only one person who stands at the top of this base. Being trusted with billions of research dollars and words is to be followed to the T inside the base. His name is Light Star.

"The previous breach was caused by six-eight-two. Several proposals are currently being studied to help contain him better. We expect these studies to bear fruit in two weeks."

"I understand. You may leave."

In a spacious room deep under the earth, a man with silver hair sits behind a luxurious metal table. The metal table's surface is covered with many things, some are his belongings, like his personal laptop, phone, and notebook.

*Ring* *Ring* *Ring*

"Hmm…"

His ringing phone instantly caught his attention. Being the leader of a very secretive base, only a handful of people can get hold of him. His phone number, technically, doesn't exist. He can only be called if the individual has tapped into a very secure and protected network.

On his phone screen, the caller's name is shown in white text. It says 'Idiot #1'. He grabbed the phone and picked it up the phone.

"What do you need, Igo?"

"Oh, come on, old buddy! Old pal!"

"No, I will not join your MLM business."

"How desperate do you think I am!?"

"Desperate enough to call for me."

"Exactly!"

"So what kind of problem did you get into now?"

"Ah! You see!! I've grown!! I'm calling because I need help with a problem that will happen."

"And my advice is to not do whatever you're going to do."

"Too late. Already suck my toes."

"Oh, for the love of… Sigh… What do you want?"

"You know how I became an Uma Musume trainer, right? Sluuurrrrppp…"

"Yes, and?"

"Can you help me research a way to strengthen their leg bones?"

"Doesn't that count as cheating?"

"There's no rule against bone strengthening in the book. Nothing written, then nothing is broken. And how the fuck are they going to check anyway? Bringing a crowbar to every race?"

"Sigh… What's in it for me?"

"I'll pay you."

"I received millions in an hour from the government. I don't need anymore."

"Yeah, but is any of that money mine?"

"No."

"Exactly. You have billions of the government's money, but no Igo's money. It's a collector's item."

"Who in their right mind would collect your item?"

"..."

"You're right… That's a stupid question to ask."

"So you'll do it?"

"Even if I did. It would take a long time, Igo."

"Oh, please… Just use your hypersonic lion tamer and ask those Umaliens for help."

"First of all, it's a hyperbolic time chamber. Second, Umaliens doesn't exist. And even if they did, asking their help on something so simple as a bone-strengthening method is, in theory, a waste of their time."

"Just tell those who don't exist that the three goddesses prophets ask them to."

"Were you visited by a biblically accurate angel last night or something?"

"We defeated one, right? Or was that just my hallucination?"

"You can't be a prophet if you kill the messenger, Igo."

"Then I'll make myself one. I hereby declare, Igo Heita, to be a prophet of Igo-ism."

"Goddesses, you're annoying. Fine… I'll do it, but even if I did succeed, the method would be far ahead of the normal doctors' method, that you need a specialist for the job, Igo."

"What are the specifications?"

"Since it would be applied to Uma, then having your practitioner be an Uma might be beneficial. Also, it would be a biological procedure, so they would also need to have a deep understanding of biology. And since this would probably also have some aspect on engineering the Uma Musume's DNA to make it a permanent enhancement, so they would be an Uma Musume with a good understanding of bioengineering."

"You just wipe off a good portion of Japan…"

"That's what I… Wait a moment."

"Sure. It's raining here, so I'm not going anywhere."

The silver-haired man put down his phone and opened his laptop. He opens an old folder from his college days and finds a Word file full of people's names alongside their majors.

"I might have your girl…"

"Whoa!! Really?!?! Who?!?!"

"You might want to find an Uma Musume named Mogami. She is doing some research at Tokyo University. Just tell her I sent you. She'll know."

"You know her?"

"Sort of. I was the target of her puppy love. You know those now that you're surrounded by teenagers, right, Igo?"

"Yeah… These girls are looking at me kinda weird, but I know it's just puppy love. They'll grow out of it, and then we'll part ways like usual. I doubt I'll marry any of them."
