"Why do you, a Gym Leader, possess something that only a Breeder would have?" Misty asked Brock curiously after looking at the contents of the notebook.
In the Pokémon World, Trainers alone are divided into Gym Leaders, Battle Trainers, Coordinator Trainers, and so on.
Besides Trainers, there are various other professions, and among them, the most popular is the Breeder.
A Breeder is exactly what the name implies; it is a profession dedicated to raising Pokémon, improving their condition.
Generally, behind a powerful Trainer, there might be a Breeder, or the Trainer himself might possess some breeding knowledge. With the Helping Hand of a Breeder, a Trainer's Pokémon grow much faster than those without a Breeder's Helping Hand.
However, compared to Trainers, the barrier to entry for Breeders is somewhat high. It's not enough to just know some massage techniques or be able to make some Pokémon food to be called a Breeder. The most basic requirement for a Breeder is to possess one or several methods that allow Pokémon to improve faster than usual and be in better condition than usual.
Among these methods, Pokémon food is one; some powerful Pokémon food recipes can even restore a severely injured Pokémon to peak condition in an instant.
If such dishes could be mass-produced, then whether it's for battle consumption or training consumption, recovery would be quick, and the extent of improvement for Pokémon would be self-evident.
And if these recipes given by Brock were given to someone who wanted to become a Breeder, they would undoubtedly be priceless. Why would Brock have such recipes?
"Actually, my dream is to become a Breeder..." Brock's face showed a helpless expression, and then he explained his situation.
Currently, Brock is only in his early twenties, yet he has to take care of his nine younger siblings, managing their daily lives, and at the same time, overseeing this Gym. The reason is that his father left home to pursue his Champion dream, and his mother also left home not long after, perhaps to travel or perhaps to train Pokémon.
But no matter the reason, the ultimate result was that the Pewter Gym and his nine younger siblings all had to be cared for by Brock alone. Brock had no way to pursue his dream of becoming a Breeder.
...So I'm entrusting my dream to you, Ash. If it's you, I feel you can take on both the Breeder and Trainer professions. These are the Pokémon food recipes I've researched over the years, and they are very helpful for Pokémon cultivation. Even if you, Ash, don't want to become a Breeder, the things in here can help you progress more smoothly on your path as a Trainer.
If it's just about simply making Pokémon dishes, then it actually doesn't require too much effort; you just need to spend some time familiarizing yourself with how to cook.
So the notebook Brock gave, regardless of whether one wants to become a Breeder or not, can play a huge role.
Ash hesitated for a moment, then prepared to accept it and agree to Brock's request, because he was already planning to become a Breeder.
The Insight Eye he currently possesses, which plays a huge role in capturing and battling Pokémon, is a skill of Breeder Ash, and in the group, Breeder Ash has also diligently taught him many things.
Therefore, Ash also decided to follow Breeder Ash and become an excellent Breeder, which was also Breeder Ash's expectation.
After all, besides him in the group, it seemed no one else could discuss insights related to Pokémon breeding with him, at least not at a professional level. If it's amateur, then all the Ash's in the group who have raised Pokémon to their peak stage could discuss it with him.
Because without the support of a Breeder, it is very difficult for Pokémon to reach the world's top level. Therefore, Trainers standing at the peak, more or less, know some breeding knowledge, but compared to professionals, they are still somewhat lacking.
Just as Ash took Brock's notebook, the Gym's door suddenly burst open with a loud bang, startling Misty, who hadn't left Ash's side, causing her to jump to the other side and tightly hug Ash's arm.
Ash and Brock were also attracted by the opening of the door and turned their gaze towards the doorway.
"I heard everything you just said, Brock. Go, pursue your dream with all your might! I'll take over the Gym." A deep voice came from the doorway.
The light from the suddenly opened door gradually dimmed, and Ash and the others clearly saw the person who had arrived at the doorway. It was a scruffy-looking uncle with a hat and a full beard. He wore stained gloves on his hands, and his face was obscured by the low-brimmed hat, so his exact appearance couldn't be seen.
But overall, this person looked like a worker toiling hard outdoors. Why would he say he would help Brock take over the Gym?
"Could it be that you are..." After a moment of stunned, Brock's expression suddenly became a little excited.
"That's right, I am... your father, Flint." As the deep voice faded, the person flung off his disguise, revealing his original appearance.
Beneath the hat and fake beard was the appearance of a middle-aged man, and this middle-aged man and Brock couldn't be said to be completely identical, only that their similarity reached ninety-nine percent!
Misty and Ash's gaze moved back and forth between the two faces, almost confusing them.
"It's been years, Father. Why have you suddenly returned?" And the timing of his return was too coincidental.
Subsequently, Flint told everyone about his experiences over the past few years. Back then, he went to pursue his dream of becoming a Trainer, wanting to become an Elite or even Champion-level Trainer, and then left Brock and his mother to manage the Gym.
The results, of course, were disappointing. Flint not only failed to become an Elite Trainer, but he didn't even win the Champion title in League tournaments outside the Kanto region.
The Indigo League is known as a cradle for beginners, and a Trainer of Flint's age would naturally not be allowed to participate.
The other regional tournaments, however, are quite intense; even top Gym Leaders cannot guarantee a 100% victory.
The strength of a top Gym Leader means having at least six Gym-level Pokémon. If even this level cannot guarantee a 100% victory, let alone Flint, who only took away the mid-level combat power from the Gym.
So after traveling for over a year, Flint failed to win any tournament Champion titles and eventually returned to his hometown, Pewter City, in disappointment.
Upon returning, he learned that Brock's mother had also left the Gym, leaving only Brock to manage the Gym with his nine younger siblings.
Knowing this, Flint felt he had no face to see Brock, so he set up a stall near the Pewter Gym's entrance, selling common ores and similar items from Pewter City.
He had intended to appear when Brock encountered difficulties, so that he could naturally return to the Pewter Gym and better gain Brock's forgiveness by saving him from peril.
Who knew that over the years, Brock had hardly encountered any difficulties, single-handedly managing the Gym admirably and raising his young younger siblings healthily and robustly.
Therefore, Flint never had a chance to show himself to Brock until today, after hearing Brock's dream, Flint finally had the opportunity to step forward!
