Chapter 2 - Denial

Meanwhile, within the main hall of House Valthorne, Kael went face to face with his all powerful parents: The head of the House Valthorne; Grand Duke Nexon Valthorne and his wife Elyria Valthorne.

As one of the five powerful houses of the Iron Forge Dominion, House Valthorne carried a rich and amazing legacy that dated back to the days of when the country was still under the rule of foreign forces.

Their head; Nexon Valthorne was a renowned great Duke and a well respected figure in the kingdom of Iron Forge Dominion.

But before now, Nexon Valthorne was the undisputed patriarch of the house, not until the recent years he took a steady decline, allowing his wife Elyria to seize control of power. To reach the level of sovereignty that he had, Nexon had to go through over 400 years of body tempering only for his wife Elyria to surpass in a space of a few months.

To Nexon, he didn't understand what kind of miracle his wife used to progress so fast on such an incredibly short amount of time. Only Elyria knew what the true source of her power was, it was none other than Zaja Thornhills Awakened talent Shadow Sovereign Flame, welding the Shadow Fire.

"You did what?!!" Although the undisputed matriarch heard exactly what her son said she still deemed it fit to ask him again for clarity and for the simple fact that she just couldn't believe it.

It was at this moment she also realized that the slave seal she used to bind Zaja to her will had been broken. The seal was only to be satisfied and dislodged after death and Zaja died but was reincarnated again on the spot, to her— her source of power was killed by her foolish son.

"Kael! You said you did what!" She repeated, hoping the scion would retract his statements.

"Mother, father... I killed Zaja Thornhill! I wanted him to plead for his life but the latter was the case. If he had pleaded, I wouldn't have killed him. So I sliced him hundreds of times over and over again and he fell limp under the pavilion..." Kael said in a loud, nonchalant manner, feeling proud of his achievements.

In that instant, after hearing what her son said, Elyria's eyes glazed over, and she staggered in her glorious seat, struggling to remain balanced.

Kael was instantly surprised by her reaction, "Mother..." The boy muttered with furrowed eyebrows of confusion.

But before he could take a step towards the throne, Elyria's eyes shot red hot and her fist jerked forth, leaving her seat in the blink of an eye , she smashed into Kael's face.

The Valthorne heir was totally unprepared for that blinding speed and more especially from his mother. The boy was flung back due to the impact, crashing into a wall and his shoulder bones cracking under the pressure of the impact.

Kraaaa!

"You bloody bastard! I will kill you!" Elyria yelled with her red hot eyes unleashing waves of Arcane energy, and as she clenched her fist, killing intent flashed through her hot eyes.

Nexon was anything but beside himself, infact he was scared to the bone at his wife's outrage but still had an obligation as a father to protect his heir even if it was against his dear wife.

"Elyria! Control yourself woman!" He said, rushing over and putting himself in Elyria's path.

The Valthorne Grand Duke didn't even remember who Zaja was, yes he'd heard the name ones or twice. But he thought he was just a mere good-looking servant that had no practical use than to serve.

Wether Zaja jived or died had no practical value to the Valthorne house or so the Grand Duke believed.

But Kael was a generational lad that held more value to the Valthorne house. Kael was tipped to becoming a Special Grade potential; surpassing lower grades: Grade one, two, three, four and five.

Not only that, Kael inherited the Valthorne house signature and most powerful mutation known as the Ten Death Paintings, this automatically tipped him to becoming a dominant powerhouse of the Iron Forge Dominion and Ember Fall Citadel at large.

He was the hope of the Valthorne house and if he were to loose his life, the Valthorne house hold would have to wait another 1,000 years to give rise to another individual who would inherit the Ten Death Paintings mutation.

So, as Kael's father and the head of the household, how could he allow his heir to be harmed over some worthless slave— their was too much at risk to putting Kael at harms way.

"Get out of my way!" Elyria said with her fleshly body erupting in full force, causing the ground to crack and wmthe the windows to blast open.

Nexon didn't expect that from his wife, he expected a cool down by putting himself in harming path, but this cause Elyria to get more heated.

Elyria grabbed Nexon by his expensive, pristine robes and flung him sideways, directly sending him through an open window.

Lady Elyria was a Grade One Arcane Bearing human and Nexon was a Grade Two Arcane Bearing human. Only one level separated them and yet the gap between the spouses looked like the difference between a full blown adult and a sickle celled toddler.

Due to the windows being open, a cool breeze blew across the scene and Elyria appeared before her son who was still stuck to the wall he drove into. Are grabbed his neck, squeezing it tightly and hoisting the heir up in the air.

"You good fit nothing bastard! From when you were just a mere boy. I provided everything you fucking needed; food, shelter, wealth, freedom, glory, servants to please your immature shlong and everything an heir would ever desire! But do I get in return for my investment? Just problems and more problems!"

Bam!

Bam!

Bam!

She slammed her son three times against the wall heavily that more concrete and stones from the wall fell off.

"Your Special Grade potential and Ten Death Paintings mutation is the only good thing about you. That slave you killed; Zaja Thornhill is a hundred times the son you will ever be!".

"You better tell me this is some kind of sick joke, because if this is true, then all the deities in the great beyond will not be able to save you from what I will do to you!".

She spat in his face and immediately tossed Kael out of the way, rushing through the door.

Denial is the first stage of grief. Despite Kael's confession and the fact that she could no longer feel the slave seal of Zaja, Elyria couldn't come to terms that Zaja was dead or more so, she refused to believe it.

And like a race against time, she bolted like lightning towards the pavilion as her heart pounded uncontrollably.
