Chapter 5 - Herta Space Station - Eye of the Storm (2)

Yoru stays back as the two rush over to Stelle. His injuries prevented him from making too much movement, anyway.

"We had coordinates sent out from the space station leading here... this wasn't Arlan?" Dan Heng stands over Stelle, who still lays unconscious.

"Who cares? They're here and alive. Do they look like a mannequin to you?" March's voice sounds unamused— exasperated, even.

Dan Heng kneels down beside Stelle, taking ahold her hand, pressing his fingers to her wrist to try to feel for a pulse.

"...Weak heartbeat and pulse... March, you better do CPR."

"Huh!? Hehe... I—I've never done it before! Dan Heng, you do it!"

Dan Heng, unflustered, moves in towards Stelle. That was when her eyes opened for the first time.

March, noticing Stelle's eyes slowly opening, immediately moves closer, shoving her hand in Dan Heng's face and off to the side to prevent anything else from happening.

"Wait— stop it! They're awake!"

Yoru watches from afar. Tending to his wounds, he glances around, still littered with bullet holes. Seeing the state that his outfit is in, he lets out a long sigh.

"Seems I'll need another outfit."

"GOAL ACHIEVED!"

Words flash before Yoru. A hologram, much like the many littering the Space Station, lingered in front of him.

"... hey you all, don't mean to be a bother, but... see anything weird?"

March was too busy helping Stelle up to respond to Yoru, so Dan Heng looked back towards Yoru.

"Nothing out of the ordinary. Unless you're talking about her," he responds, regarding to Stelle in his response. "Something wrong?"

Yoru looks back at the slightly transparent hologram.

"...no."

While Dan Heng and March talk to Stelle, informing her of all the events that have happened so far on the station, Yoru peruses through the hologram.

It was an interface. A floating blue screen, with banners off to the side. One was labeled 'Info', and the other was labeled 'Roll'.

Using his finger, he clicks on the 'Info' tab. The hologram changes from its previous screen to a new screen. Looking closely, Yoru reads the tab.

"This system is unique to you. Involving yourself with parts of the story will grant you a certain amount of 'Rolls'. You may use these 'Rolls' in the 'Roll' tab to gain a singular, random ability. You may not have more than one ability at a given time. Once you roll an ability you have, that ability is gone unless you roll it back again. Every 100 rolls, you are GUARANTEED a useful ability!"

A gacha in a gacha. Yoru stares at the screen, taking in the information.

On one hand, he was a bit happy. Knowing he had an ability made him ecstatic. On the other hand, he felt a bit off.

This might have truly meant that he was stuck in the world of Star Rail. With no way to get back to his own home.

Although he never really liked his home, would he be willing to go back?

"Helllooo?? Wake up!" March's voice snapped Yoru out of his trance. Looking back, he noticed all three of them were standing in front of him. "You weren't listening, were you? We're headed to the Master Control Zone~"

"You and Stelle are. We still lost contact from Arlan from the Security Department. I need to find him first," Dan Heng adds to March's quick summary.

"Anyways! You're coming with, right?" March glances at Yoru, waiting for an answer.

"... sure. I'll be in your care, again."

As Dan Heng leaves, March, Stelle, and Yoru all start the walk to the Master Control Zone, needing to access the elevator to get there. Walking along the railway, March and Stelle chat about Stelle's memory loss.

Thankfully, being with Stelle and March meant that Yoru didn't need to fight the Voidrangers. March had already given Stelle a bat curio that was laying on the ground where she first woke up, letting the two fight together.

Yoru stuck in the back as they fought a few Voidranger Reavers and Distorters, sometimes even Eliminators.

While they fought, Yoru had some time to check in with the new system he unlocked. Just thinking about the system would bring it up, directly in front of his face.

"I'm assuming I started with one of these abilities then. That would explain why I survived the Reavers and Kafka."

He selects the 'Roll' list, the hologram opening up to the page. In the middle of the page, was the a button with the words 'Roll' on it. To the bottom right, a small bar with '0/100' on it. On the bottom left, was the amount of rolls he had, currently at 1. At the bottom of the page, was a box with the title, 'Current Ability.'

Listening to the unfortunate noises that the Reavers made as a bat was repeatedly bashed into its skull in the background, Yoru presses the 'Current Ability' button.

Another hologram pops out, showing Yoru what his current ability was.

"Adaption - Take an attack, become immune to that attack. If taking an attack you've adapted to, heal slightly. Taking a different attack will make you immune to the new attack, forgoing your previous adaptation."

"... that's actually useful," Yoru murmurs.

"What are you murmuring about?" March glances back, having finished dealing with the Reavers alongside Stelle.

"Don't worry about it."

"I'm worrying about it," Stelle responds casually.

Yoru glances back down at the hologram. "This is useful. But... I might need to change it."

He knows that this ability is good, but there's also the enemies. Overtime, they became stronger, and he definitely was not going to survive a single scratch if someone like Phantylia decided to breath on him the wrong way.

"Oh well. Whatever."

He brushes aside the information, moving back to the 'Roll' tab, before deciding to press on the button.

The hologram blanks out for a small second, before it reappears.

"... you're kidding, right?"

"New Ability: Explosive Breadcrumbs"
