Chapter 6 - Do the impossible

Hey guys sorry for the delay, my laptop broke so I had to redo the whole chapter, for this reason it is a little smaller than expected, I haven't taken a shower yet, shit, well good reading, thanks for the stones.

___________

This isn't much different from suicide, huh?" The morning sun and the salty sea breeze passed gently over me as I slowly tied the rags I use to protect my knuckles. Not that they were really necessary anymore; I was thinking, wondering what awaited me out on the open water.

"I guess sooner or later this would have to happen..." He's always circling the island, from first light until past midnight. And with his speed? Damn, if I think about finding another island, I'd barely get away before he ripped me to pieces. "With a hard tug everything seemed in place, including the rest of my preparations."

Stuck in the sand before me were about ten huge spines, as hard as metal, taken straight from a giant cactus I found in one of my explorations in the island's deeper parts. The spines were a very pale lime green, but toward the tips a toxic purple took over. "It's a pretty potent poison... I still feel bad for that giant boar; I barely stuck it with one of these and it was instantly paralyzed."

Those spines were part of my plan to kill the Sea Beast, preferably without losing a limb. "That, plus the other two aces up my sleeve... Makes killing the Sea Beast go from impossible. Now it's almost impossible." The preparation for the first part of the plan was nearly done; only one more rock was missing and all the exits would be sealed.

As I left the beach and headed toward the rockier parts of the forest, I started second-guessing the first part of the plan. No, I wasn't going to pull a Garp and throw rocks at the Sea Beast. They were being placed in holes of a natural barrier of coral and rock just to make sure the first step of the plan goes off without a hitch: containment.

"Huff." Yeah, it's not exactly an easy thing to do. In my hands now was a rock my size, and when you're over two meters tall, that's no joke. Small, light stones wouldn't hold the Sea Beast, so for a whole week I'd been hauling huge rocks. "Shit, my spine's basically dust at this point!" Huff.

After a terrible experience crossing a cursed boulder through a forest full of slippery mud, I was back at the beach, psyching myself up for the worst part of the route. In case you didn't know, corals tend to sit underwater, and guess where is a terrible place to walk carrying an enormous boulder that consumes all your strength just to lug it? The damned ocean!

"I'm not that damn little mermaid! Shit! I hate this part, shit, shit, shit..." While cursing my unlucky fate, I slowly left the beach and headed toward my trap; my luck was that it sat on a kind of sandbank, shallower than the surrounding sea.

With a deep breath, my submerged walk began. The rock I carried was so heavy my feet sank into the sand with each step; my eyes burned from the saltwater, but crossing the ocean with my eyes closed? No way. My only luck was that this was the only submerged stretch and it lasted only a few dozen meters — which didn't make it any less shitty.

As I walked I stayed alert to my surroundings; those damn giant crabs are incredibly sneaky. Those little shits always try to take a piece of me on this crossing.

"Seems they learned I'd beat their asses ten out of ten times." Amazingly, I wasn't attacked today and reached my goal quickly: my trap.

A natural circular coral formation I'd been reinforcing. Inside it, the seabed was only three or four meters deep, manageable for a fight.

"Huff... Looks like it's time to get that damn Sea Beast in here... This is gonna go wrong." Right after placing the boulder where I wanted it, I rose to the surface for a breath and decided I'd made enough preparations to start the containment. "It's time for the containment plan... There's no way this works, damn it."

[Some hours later]

Out in the open sea near the island, a giant creature dominated the area, reigning supreme: a Sea Beast, a thing that spelled death in these waters.

Sure, no less than another Sea King, but the sea around this island was this Sea King's hidden paradise — no other rivals and plenty of food.

But that paradise was about to be disturbed. During one of its territorial patrols something curious caught its attention.

"HEEEY! COME HERE, I AM DELICIOUS! THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT A TRAP!" A prey it already knew; they were relatively tasty but very small and almost all bones. Still, hey, a meal is a meal, right?

Turning its body toward the prey it began to accelerate. The prey was above the water — not strange; it doesn't usually see that kind of prey swim, so it usually just jumps or smashes whatever strange things are on top.

And, unlucky for it, that day it decided to leap to reach the prey.

[POV: Goraku]

"Shit, it's working, it's coming." As the red fin approached fast, I prepared to carry out the second part of the plan, since the Sea King had made it clear he was heading straight for the trap.

Pulling two cactus spines from the sand, I got ready to weaken the beast as much as possible before going in with a killing machine.

"It's all about timing now." With every second my sense of time stretched; each second felt slower than the last until finally it leapt out of the water.

*SPLASH*

There it was, all its power on display, mouth open to try to take a bite out of me. But, unfortunate for it, I wasn't unprepared.

*Whoosh*. With an explosion of speed I dodged the Sea King's charge, staying close to its body because the second part of my plan required I be near — and that's when the weakening began.

With every ounce of strength I had in my arms I drove one of the spines into the Sea King. *ROAR!* Blood burst from the wound. "THIS! HAHAHAH."

I didn't let go of the spine; if I was going into the water, my best option was to give that bastard no space to retaliate. Then came the third part of the plan. "BERSERK! HAHAHAHAHA." With a deep breath I went in with the beast into the trap.

"Just you and me now, you little shit." The Sea King went totally berserk, dragging itself across the trap floor, and I started using the cactus spines like climbing picks. "The paralysis is starting to take effect, but it's slow."

As I approached its head I noticed the Sea King struggling to move, little spasms running through its body. "Good, very good, just a bit more." Until I reached its neck, and when I did, the Sea King lost all composure and entered a frenzy.

It thrashed and slammed itself into rocks, tearing its skin and staining the sea red. I wasn't spared: as it flailed I felt a sharp pain in my leg.

"Argh!" A muffled yell escaped me as my left leg snapped; the air leaving my lungs dulled the pain but amplified my fear of drowning.

"Shit, SHIT!! I have to finish this, fast!" Gathering everything in my arms I edged closer and closer to the Sea King's head.

Until I saw those damn red eyes and they looked back at me. "DIE, BASTARD!" Raising both spines above my head I saw its eyes shrink as the poisonous tips came nearer.

ROAR! A scream of pain echoed through my body as the beast roared; I kept the spines buried where its eyes used to be. Blind, terrified and stunned, the Sea King made one last desperate choice: flee, swimming at top speed.

"Shit." The only problem was this whole area was enclosed, so the damn oversized eel headed straight for a wall of solid rock.

"Shit, shit, shit, die already!" Trying to prevent any chance of escape, in case this overgrown eel could break the wall, I stabbed its eyes again and again; the water around us seemed to grow ever more crimson.

But pain took over my body; bleeds I hadn't noticed before seemed to drain all my strength, and I felt myself slipping into unconsciousness.

"Shit..." As my eyes closed I felt the Sea King's movements slow, its body's vibration fade and its heat disappear.

"Huh... In the end... I did something impossible, holy shit." With those last thoughts my eyes shut and my thoughts gave way to an unstoppable sleep.
