Chapter 126 - The Counteroffensive

The northern coalition had retreated, licking their wounds and reassessing strategies—but Mukul wasn't content with mere defence. He watched the data streams flowing through his predictive network, each piece of intelligence revealing the enemy's weaknesses and overconfidence.

"They underestimated us," Mukul said quietly, fingers tracing paths across the tactical map. "Now it's our turn to define the battlefield."

Seraphine's dark eyes sparkled. "You want to go on the offensive? Strike them before they strike again?"

Mukul nodded. "Precisely. The coalition thinks they've seen our full strength. They haven't even glimpsed the network's reach. We'll use their retreat to shape their next move, manipulate their expectations, and reclaim initiative."

Lysandra adjusted troop placements and supply lines on the map. "We can set controlled traps along predictable routes, lure their forces into positions that favour us, and secure key territory before they realise our strategy."

Elara's silver eyes gleamed. "With the harem bond, our envoys and leaders in distant regions can coordinate seamlessly. Any attempt by the coalition to probe our defences will feed our intelligence and tighten the net."

Step one: deception. Mukul instructed allies to simulate vulnerability in select border villages, creating an illusion of weakness that would entice the coalition to probe further. Trade disruptions were minimal, but carefully calculated to reinforce the façade.

Step two: pre-positioning. Small, agile units were moved to hidden vantage points along likely incursion routes. Scouts and informants were embedded within the coalition's periphery, sending real-time updates back into Mukul's network. Every movement by the enemy would now be observed, anticipated, and countered before it could escalate.

Step three: coordinated intervention. Mukul planned synchronised strikes at strategic points, timed to coincide with the coalition's probing actions. The goal wasn't just to repel, but to control the battlefield, forcing the enemy into reactive positions while reinforcing loyalty and confidence among allies.

By midday, the plan was in motion. Scouts reported coalition units testing the simulated weak points. Mukul's network processed the data instantly, predicting their manoeuvres with uncanny accuracy.

"They're walking right into it," Mukul murmured, a faint smile on his lips. "Every step they take strengthens our preparation, and every mistake reveals their strategy."

Seraphine's dark eyes gleamed. "It's brilliant. They'll think they're gaining ground, but each move tightens the net. Their overconfidence will be their undoing."

Lysandra adjusted signals and communication lines. "Even leaders and envoys in distant territories are now actively shaping the battlefield without knowing the full picture. The network guides them invisibly, ensuring perfect timing and coordination."

Elara's silver eyes softened. "And our allies' confidence grows. They believe in their own decisions, unaware that their actions are perfectly aligned with strategy. We are invisible, yet present everywhere."

As the sun dipped below the horizon, Mukul observed the first counteroffensive in motion. Northern coalition units were lured into traps, ambushed with precision, and driven back systematically. Trade routes remained intact, villages were unharmed, and the morale of Mukul's allies soared.

Mukul exhaled, calm yet resolute. "This is more than defence. This is control. Every move by the enemy now feeds our advantage, every misstep teaches us, and every action by our allies reinforces unity. The battlefield is ours, not because of brute force, but because of foresight, strategy, and invisible guidance."

By nightfall, the northern coalition had retreated again, battered and confused. Mukul's counteroffensive had succeeded without unnecessary bloodshed, and the alliance now stood stronger, more confident, and ready for whatever came next.
